Some questions I have OR lore and info requests

2. Am I supposed to really not do Morrigan's ritual? I mean, I felt the reasons to go through with it and not sacrifice myself or Alistair (or Loghain) to be quite compelling.
3. Are there horses in Ferelden? I see wagons pulled by oxen- mostly flayed of their skin- and there's the hallas. Just wondering, are there no horses? What about cats?
4. There is no 4.
5. If lyrium makes people crazy, how can you go around handling raw lyrium to make potions?
6. Do you think the sequel or further DLC will reveal that Avernicus has "solved" the taint problem? Or not, since you can kill him?
7. Do guys that played the game or people who didn't romance Alistair think it was as engrossing as some of Alistair's fan-girls? I just beat it playing a male warrior and didn't use Alistair at all. I didn't find that playthrough as much fun. Did you find the other romances or player/NPC relationships to be as engaging or improve the game that much? Me personally, I think Alistair is the adorable icing on the awesome cake that is Dragon Age: Origins.
That's all!

Alistair is 32, I'm not sure about the others.totertot wrote...
1. How old are some of the dudes in this game? If Loghain took a big part in freeing Ferelden from the Orlesians, does that make him 50-55? (Maybe someone who's read the books can help me here?) If he's in his 50s, what does that make Arl Eamon? 60? Or Wynne? Does that make relatively young-looking characters, like Alistair and Cailin and Morrigan in their mid-20s?
It's entirely up to you, it's part of the replayability of the game.2. Am I supposed to really not do Morrigan's ritual? I mean, I felt the reasons to go through with it and not sacrifice myself or Alistair (or Loghain) to be quite compelling.
Oh LAWD no, no horses. Use the search function to see the ongoing chaos about horses in the game. Short answer: they didn't have time to put them in as they weren't ever really used for anything. There is a cat in one of the DLCs.3. Are there horses in Ferelden? I see wagons pulled by oxen- mostly flayed of their skin- and there's the hallas. Just wondering, are there no horses? What about cats?
Easy enough. 424. There is no 4.
It takes a long, long time of excessive use to build up in your system and make you nutso. You'll be heading for a Deep Roads Disco before you get too crazy.5. If lyrium makes people crazy, how can you go around handling raw lyrium to make potions?
I hope they don't solve the taint problem. That would be disappointing.6. Do you think the sequel or further DLC will reveal that Avernicus has "solved" the taint problem? Or not, since you can kill him?
As an Alistair fangurl, I cannot objectively answer this question.7. Hope I helped some!

Also, I thought mages couldn't be exposed to raw lyrium at all. Am I misremembering something?

2 It's more the distrusting Morrigan idea because no one really knows exactly what she'll do with an old god's essence, it's irresponsible to let something like that go into a "maleficar/apostate" mage who is all but altruistic. Basically it's bad because we don't know what she could honestly do with it, but it's not punching babies bad.
3 According to bioware a plague wiped out most of them, the only actual horses belong to Ferelden. Mounts in this game have the most morbid backstory.
5. Because you're awesome? Raw lyrium is only actually found in the deep roads and you can't really use it, unless you're a mage.
6. I don't think he was working to solve it, rather to exploit it for power.
7. Alistair is a good, well done character and the voice actor is great. The lines he has are also funny but I don't quite understand the obsession some people get with him. He definately does the "sidekick" role very well especially if the PC is a male. Zevran > Alistair, however.

They are your super sekret fifth army:

To adequately fund this army, you might want to invest in some catnip for those allied camp crates.

Toolset - under the character descriptions, I think.

What about the Lyrium Veins you use in the battle at the Anvil of the Void...or is that not raw or enough?

2. This is up to your PC and his or her conscience.
3. Yes there are. You don't see them for economic reasons regarding game development.
4. Okay.
5. There was an idea kicked around of implementing lyrium addiction if you drank too many potions, but it was dropped in favor of player accessbility. This is likely similar. Assume you mix potions while wearing heavy gloves and a mask.
6. No idea. I have reason to believe that the problem of the taint and the calling Wardens experience is being worked on, though. Read The Calling if you want speculation fuel
7. I like all of the NPCs for different reasons. I've heard plenty of guys say that Alistair is great bromance material, just as I've heard both girls and guys bemoan his "whining." I suppose it's as subjective as liking anybody in real life.

Ahhhh... that's info for the VO people. It's an apparent age and gives a range for the actor, not his actual age.Colenda wrote...

Space lyrium. It's my only explanation for THAT stuff.

Yes, now I see this. My mutant power apparently allows me to ask the same questions without seeing the other topics. Sorry!

Ok so huh... game mechanics aside, this stuff *should* make whoever touches it mad and/or dead. Unless it's a dwarf or a tranquil, right ?

Raw lyrium affects mages the worst, yes. The affect on non-mages is lesser but still harmful. Dwarves and tranquil would be mostly unaffected by raw lyrium unless they spend too much time in its presence._Loc_N_lol_ wrote...

It shouldn't give you a power up or a boost to your mana when you touch it. Not unless it's... something else, I guess. In that instance I guess it's just PC gameplay privilege.

I have this great vision for a fancomic, but it requires Morrigan to be drunk. And, um, I doubt she’d actually go drinking with the rest of the bunch… but say, if she somehow happened to devour a wee tiny amount of raw lyrium (dust or something), what would happen? Would she drop dead, being a mage and all? Or would she just get a bit loony (point being, act as if drunken) for a while?
Oh and does raw lyrium affect golems too? Or could Shale hop around merrily surrounded by raw lyrium?

Why couldn't Zevran spike her drinks? Or have Alistair goad her into it? Maybe she and the PC get on well and she gives it a shot?
Anyway, it doesn't have to be raw lyrium. A few specks of lyrium dust on the tongue could be a trip. There's no real information AFAIK on what it feels like to lick lyrium dust or drink a lyrium potion.
The only raw lyrium in the game that I recall is the shipment you can smuggle into the tower, and the dwarf warns you not to touch it. You'd have to take that into account, I think.

1. The Qunari have been living in Thedas for around 300 years now. They keep their mages crippled and in cages. This implies to me that magic is a relatively new development for them. So, did magic manifest itself in their populace after living a few generations in Thedas, or did they already know about magic before crossing the pond?
2. Are griffons extinct extinct or just no longer present in the populated segments of Thedas? Would adding them to the game break canon or ruin future DLC plans?
3. Were Arlathian cities always based in the middle of forests?
Enquiring minds want to know:innocent:

The Qunari have Qunari magi. They are like the chantry wishes it could be in that respect.

Extinct, but the dragons were also thought to be just that.

Khihii, she’ll have to be wasted when the sober PC and Alistair arrive back at the camp. Zevran spiking her drinks could work… but… lyrium would give it a nice lunatic touch
Gameplay and lore make me confuzzled though – isn’t refined lyrium dust “safe” for
everyone? I mean, does it still have side-effects? o_O
