It wasn't a forward / backward / diagonal roll, this was a roll to the left. He didn't do the usual Geth dodge. It was similar to the phoenix adept sideways roll for example.

Maybe it was the connection to the host, other random Geth shenanigans were noted:

I am behind left wall of opening in wall, and teammate is on right side. both are at an angle where a Geth rocket trooper can initiate the curveball rocket. So I see the rocket curving towards me, so I start moving left far enough where it will hit the wall, but I notice, in mid-curve, the rocket changes direction and curves toward the right wall, hitting my teammate.

Numerous times I have had to do the trademark "Hesitation Cloak" where one cloaks, starts running forward, and then immidately walks backward / rolls backward to bypass the initial auto-de-cloak-within-1-second-glitch, wait for cooldown, then re-cloak to get to a downed teammate.
