She's not a professional voice actor so you can't expect the same quality work from her you get from say Ali Hillis but I don't think it was bad. I've heard bad voice acting lol. It's what I'd expect from a rookie. You have to think, Chobot usually doesn't "act" when she's working. She's just being herself. As far as I know, this was new to her. She could have done much worse.

And I think right there is the problem. How many of us fans would've turned down the chance to voice a character on the grounds that "I'm not good enough to do it justice"? Very few I think, the rush of blood to the head would've made the decision for us.

BioWare should simply not have offered the part to a non-professional in the first place. I have no issues with the character, but the godawful delivery of the lines is the meat of the problem.

I believe she had very much potential that wasn't used.

A reporter like her on the Normandy could have had a really interesting role. Turns out that she is just talking to herself in Zaeed's room and is barely shown or used. It's really just a celebrity addition (which I don't understand the sense of, considering they already have people like Carrie Ann Moss, Tricia Helfer and Martin Sheen)

Not to mention that the face-scanning for her was terribly heartless executed and her voice-acting was surprisingly bad for someone who already is a (professional) reporter and moderator.

I didn't have any problem with her on the ship. If she was just some random person, I don't think anyone would have flipped out as much as they had. I think the ridiculous hate is because she's semi-famous.

A lot of people say the voice acting is terrible but I disagree. I wasn't blown away or anything but I certainly didn't find it off putting. Video games used to have awful voice acting, just look at the first resident evil game (the writing didn't help though) but we're pretty spoilt with Mass Effect because everyone is excellent so maybe Chobot just seems bad in comparison. Honestly I thought she did a better job than most soap actors.

The character was done all wrong. The thing that hurts worst is that we already had two established reporters in the ME universe.

2) Face that looks like its been melted with a wax candle (seriously, what went wrong there???).
3) Wasted time and resources scanning Chobot into the game engine when they could have brought back an already established character like Emily Wong, or could even have given Tali the properly rendered face-reveal she deserved. Instead, Wong was killed off on Twitter and Tali was given a poorly photoshopped stock-photo.

I agree that scanning Chobot's face into the game engine was unnecessary, but I don't see how that is related to Tali's face or Wong's death. I don't know the exact size of ME3's budget, but I have a hard time believing the devopers ultimately had to choose between rendering Allers' face or Tali's face and chose Allers'.

And I don't know about Wong, but I wouldn't be surprised if her death in a viral marketing campaign was a decision completely unrelated to the inclusion of Jessica Chobot's likeness.

I don't quite understand why people suddenly love Emily Wong so much anyway. Sure she was likeable, but she never was more than a minor questgiver and, in ME2, the sender of an email. Sure, she was an established character, but in name only. When did she exhibit character traits other than the standard "intrepid reporter" personality? Weird to see so many people suddenly get so attached to her.

I also feel bad for Jessica Chobot, by the way. Don't get me wrong: you have every right and every reason to dislike Diana Allers. But the way Chobot has been treated by some of the "fans"... damn. And also strangely ironic at the same time, as it is Allers who at one point in the game remarks how fast an e-democracy can turn on its allies. I guess she found that out herself the hard way.

They killed off an established character - however minor - to justify having her in.

I don't hate Chobot, but I do hate how she's one of many who get their jobs purely because "OMG ITS A GAMUR GURLLL SO HOT". I don't blame her jumping at a pay check mind, I do blame the industry.

If her voice acting was decent I think a fair chunk of the flak would slide, but it's clear she didn't get the job for her "talent" in the VO department.

This is one of the reasons I love having the Collector's Edition. My Fem!Shep can wear actual casual clothing while on the Normandy. Sadly, Can't mix it up as I did with my Bro!Shep.

I would not know, not fan of either ... the uniforms were imo the best.

@Lance: Yeah the hoodie is the one sane option if I had a femShep. XD

@uzivatel: For dude Shep the casual spacer outfit's not to bad. The orange overtop is a bit eye searing (would've been better as black or a dark blue) but it's at least not that dress. I'm actually not that too fond of the uniforms. The pants look ugly to me.

Replayed the game to experience EC and found Allers still to be truly awful. The delivery of some of her lines is just urghhhh. Beyond the delivery though, her character is just atrocious. Is this Bioware's view of what a war correspondent/journalist is? The role has such wasted potential coupled with the fact that resources were pumped into the role while other characters were stripped bare because of lack of resources.

They could have had some awesome character development of Emily Wong stepping up to the plate or Kahlessia changing her views on Shepard a bit differently (I, being someone who never punched her, Appreceated the Paragon Option at the end). So much potential. And, if they ABSOLUTELY HAD to have Allers, make it a three way decision between Wong, Kahlessia, and Allers.

I think people have less of a problem with her and more one with what she represents, i.e. getting rid of the previous two reporters. She's not a bad person by any means, and I don't dislike her as such, I'd just rather have Emily Wong (including as a romance option... maybe not one I'd take, given Liara, but still).
