Noob - A player who plays as if inexperienced or is simply bad at the game.

New Player - A player who IS inexperienced, but retains the ability to improve.

See? I'm friendly. I'm also a proggammer in trainings, extremely OCD, and currently taking a software documentation class, so expect this to get VERY lengthy. General tips and "short" enemy bios will be added at the bottom, if you want to skip to those. (^_^)

Here is my guide for players just starting out in ME3's (Mass Effect 3) MP (MultiPlayer). I felt this was necessary because I noticed a large influx of new players recently and I know that MP is a new concept for ME I'm gonna throw a lot of acronyms at you and will define as I go, they are good to know as many people here on BSN (Bioware Social Network) use them. Let me know if I forget to explain somthing and I will try to keep up on this to edit as needed.I apololigize for any mis-spelling. This guide is intended for general advise. I'm not gonna try and tell you the "best" way to play pro, "to each his own" I always say.

       <> Getting Started <>

1.       Baby Steps       Play SP (Single Player) first. Seriously, learn the controls if you don't already know them or get used to the new gameplay if you do. Figure out what class you like, learn how the different powers work (some are complicated), and get used to the class and fitness skill trees. This is also useful for learning different enemy types and how they act.

2.       Stat Building.       Those last two skill trees are passive, meaning that they affect your basic stats and are not usable powers like Warp or Overload. They are VITAL to MP, you should max out your class and fitness trees for every character you have. I reccomend maxing out class first, then max out fitness (for maximized health and shields, not melee damage), then focus on the usable power you think will be your most important.

3.       Bronze.       Start with Bronze. I know "duh" but I've seen some real green players in higher difficulty games. Bronze is excellent for getting used to how MP works. A successful Bronze game will grant around 15,000 creds, which can get you 3 Recruit packs. 4 successful Bronze games and you've got your first Spectre Pack. A good strategy is to work your way up the packs, after you've gotton a bunch of Veteran packs, start buying more Spectre packs. Get to a point where you are buying Spectre packs regularly, this will be very helpful with aquiring a diverse set of characters and weapons.

4.       Silver.       The obvious next step is to move from Bronze to Silver. Just be careful, the difficulty spikes between each are HIGH, so don't force it. I reccomend waiting until your prefered character/class has maxed class, maxed fitness, and 1 maxed or close to maxed usable skill. Stock up on consumables like rockets, medi-gel, weapon amps, and anything else you think you might need. (Gear is NOT consumable, it is an upgradable piece of equipment that you keep, just like your weapons, so don't worry about wasting it). When I did this, I would play 1 Silver, then 2 Bronze, then would buy a Spectre pack since a good Silver game will grant around 30,000 creds. If a game didn't go well I just played as many Bronze as needed to get my next Spectre pack. Sepctre packs are your friend.

5.        Gold        Before you go any further, know that Gold is HARD , I don't care what any self proclaimed "pro" player says, it's rough. Here is what you are likely to see a lot of if or when you start Gold; Firebase: White, Geth, Gold, or as BSN users type, FBWGG. This is said to be the easiest gold match you can play due to a combination of how Geth AIs act and the very defensible "house" as I like to call it that is right at the bottom of the stairs, inside. I'm not going to claim it is the easiest, but I do feel it is easiER becasue the the aformentioned reasons. For any Gold game, hold NOTHING back, don't mess around, if it's almost dead, just kill fast, don't try and do any fancy crap. Score means nothing, people generally play Gold for creds and creds alone (around 70,000 assuming full success by round 10). Don't play Gold until you are at least at lvl 18. If you enter a Gold lobby with any lower levels, just leave, having a strong character is just as important as being a skillful player in games like this. Consumables can do wonders, use as many USEFUL consumables as you can, take no risks. make sure you are stocked up on as many rockets, medi-gel, survival ops, and ammo packs as you can use per game. Basically, stockpile until you can confidently storm Fort Knoxx, then show no mercy.

       <> General Tips <>

(I differentiate between classes and characters. A character is a single, named character (duh). A class encompasses all the characters under it. class: Sentinal. Character: Turian Sentinal)

- Don't start with Vanguard as your first class. NOT A RANT! All I'm saying is, charging head first into enemy squads is not a good way for new players to learn the game. Done.

- A rare item you can obtain is a consumable upgrade. This will increase the number of rockets, medi-gel, survival ops, OR ammo packs you can take into a single game. You can max each item up to 5.

- A uncommon item you can get is a class skill reset. This will allow you to completly re-apply ALL the skill points for a single character without having to promote and re-level the whole class. This also means you can ignore the ability that is your first, mandatory ability (like Tactical Cloak or Biotic Charge). To use it, simply enter a characters skill menu and press Y. If you have extra points to apply, exit after you use them, then re-enter, otherwise pressing Y will just undo the point you just applied and will not activate the re-skill. 1 TIME USE PER!

- Power recharge speed is more important than you might think if you are using a power dependont class like Adepts or Engineers. I personally love using the Tempest SMG for these classes as it can be a very versitile weapon if you can learn to handle the recoil. A Tempest alone will not affect your weight, keeping it at that perfect 200%.

- Once you have more experience, don't be afraid of experienting with using classes in different ways, you might find a new favorite build. I have respeced my Geth Infiltraitor to be able to play like a squishy Solider by getting rid of Tactical Cloak in favor of Hunter Mode and Proximity Mine and equiping a Revenant machine gun.

- Unlike it's ME1 and ME2 incarnations the ME3 Armor Piercing ammo actually can pierce through solid objects within the gamespace. Yes, with strong enough Armor Piercing Ammo or Piercing Mods you can hit enemies behind light cover (some weapons, like the Javelin sniper even do this without any extra modification!). This includes those riot shiolds the Guardians carry. Technically, every weapon has a Piercing ability, most just arn't strong enough to actually do anything. Armor Piercing ammo and Pirecing Mods increase that number to a level high enough to go through objects. This can be considered a stackable ability, meaning that higher level mods and ammo can go through larger objects. Imagine what you could do with a Javelin, with a lvl 5 Piercing mod, lvl 3 Armor Pireceing ammo, and a Geth with Hunter Mode!

- Weapon mods are great and can severly alter how your weapon operates. Magazine mods are good, but make sure you test them in a private game. Since Mag mods alter ammo count by a percentage, they do NOT work on weapons that only fire 1 shot before reloading. Any percent of 1 will not be enough to increase it to 2. Snipers will like the scope mod as it can help see through Centurian smoke.

- Don't just use ammo powers willy nilly! (Wow that looks weird when typed) If you know what type of enemies you will be facing going into a game, use proper ammo powers. Namley save the Disrupter ammo for Geth and sav the Warp ammo for Cerberus and Reapers (factions that actually have biotic members).

(Name - Defenses - Description and Tips)

Health - Red. Not all enemies have literal "Health." many will have Armor instead of Health

Armor - Yellow, Weak against Piercing (mods and ammo), Incendiary and Warp ammo, some biotic powers, some tech powers. Common to most heavy units.

Shields - Blue, weak aganist some tech powers.

Barriers - Purple, weak against some biotic powers.

    [Cerberus]

Cerberus troops are a unique enemy type in that they make effective use of cover and other sneeky tactics that can easily overcome an inattentive player.

Troopers - Health - Your basic grunt. As with any grunt they are fairly managable individually but gain their strength from outnumbering you. They can throw grenades over cover so wathc out for that little red symbol and beeping sounds. Other than that, they provide suspression fire for other Cerberus units and little else.

Centurian - Shields + Health - They are exactly like Troopers, except that they have shiedls and can throw smoke grenades that prevent you from properly targeting hidden units with powers and greatly impedes vision.

Nemesis - Shields + Health - Snipers, though not particularly good ones. While a single hit from a Nemesis can down your shields, it's rate of fire is so slow that you will likely have enough time to get into cover before it fires again. What frustrate players about this enemy is that they move around almost constantly, this combined with the fact that they are all female (skinny) means that, while they may not be hard to kill, they can be very hard to actually land a hit on.

Engineers - Shields + Health - The Engineer itself is not an overly difficult enemy, the turrets they lay out on the map are what make it so very hated. If you are fast enough you can destroy a turret as it is being layed down, which will either kill or cause significant damage to the Engineer, but if it hits the floor find cover fast. Each Engineer has one of these turrets folded up and mounted like a backpack. Hitting the turret while it is on an Engineers back will cause it to expolde causing significant damage. Do not be fooled by this, an Engineer is NOT restricted to building only 1 turret, but each turret will eventually explode if it survives long enough. Targeting Engineers early on in a round to prevent turret placment is a good idea.

    Engineer Turret - Shields + Armor - It's small, but very deadly, arguably one of the deadliest cerberus units next to Phantoms and Atlas mechs. Not particularly tough health wise, but they have an extremly high rate of fire which can down your shields very fast, even on Bronze, allowing other units to pick you off quickly. WARNING: Engineer turrets are NOT considered active enemies by the ME3 system, therefore a round may end while turrets remain active on the map. If you are playing against Cerberus, do not assume all enemies are dead at round end.

Phantoms - Barriers + Health - One of the most feared enemies in the game. Phantoms can use their own Tactical Cloak, have a highly damaging ranged attack, have a highly damaging and stagering melee attack, and can even insta-kill you with a gutstap of their short sword if you are close enough. They move very fast and often in serpentine patterns. It is possible to destroy their sword, if you can hit it, thus removing that Phantoms ability to perform any melee attack. WARNING: If you are killed by a Phantom insta-kill you CANNOT use medi-gel to get back up, you have to wait for either the round to end. Proceed with extreme caution, inexperienced players should not purposfully attempt to face Phantoms alone.

Atlas Mech - Shields + Armor - Big mechs, hard to miss. They can fire strong shots 3 in a row (not burst fire) and can fire a very powerful homing missle. Their are some visual and auditory signs that an Atlas is about to fire its missle so you have a few seconds to get in cover. An Atlas can also use it's left arm to strike the ground in front of it as a melee attack. I've heard that it also has an insta-kill melee attack, but have not personaly experienced this myself. Confirmation either way would be appreciated.
