Steve Cortez
Ashley/Kaidan

for

Mordin
Legion
Grunt (maybe Wrex)
Miranda (maybe Kasumi)

They could have gotten something else to do, if being a squadmember wasn't a possibility ...

And I would always pick Dr. Chakwas, instead of Dr. Michel, if it wouldn't matter for the story/assets.

option2) murder EDI right away, and take Miranda or Jack instead.

Kick off James and confine EDI to the bridge. Or at least take her gun away so she isn't a squad member.

Replace them with Miranda and Wrex.
Miranda doesn't really need to be a squad member but she should be on the ship. In my opinion, I didn't get to talk to her enough in person.
Bring Wrex because he is a pretty cool guy. He kicks ass and doesn't afraid of anything.

I'd kick off Kaidan and replace him with Thane. Because Thane was one of my Shepard's LI.

James for Zaeed (though I liked James he had barely any interaction)
EDI for EDI (ME2 version who is part of the ship and always has dialogue and advice during your missions)
Traynor for Kelly
Allers for the trash compactor

James Vega was okay, but a bit shallow. So out with him, and in with Mordin, Thane or Legion - all of whom had great story lines and more potential.
Considering how small the roster is in ME3, put in more characters without kicking anyone out.

I would replace Allers with anyone, a waste of resources was put into such a pointless character.
But if I have to pick a squadmate. I would swap James for Mordin, or anyone else really. He is not a very interesting character, he bearly has any dialogue, even Cortez have more Dialogue, or at least it feels like it.

I would kick Liara for Jack or Javik for Jack or Vega for Jack and I like Vega. Or the VS for Jack. And really there'splenty of room on the Normandy so I should have Jack in my game.

Note: I'd like Kaiden or Ashley's personalities from ME1 in ME3. I think both of them had their own personalties in ME1 but in ME3, they were the same person (both hate you for Cerberus, both don't trust you, both become Spectre, etc...)

* I would have liked a side mission to search for a temporary cure for Thane's illness, allowing him to join me in the fight against the Reapers

** Another side mission could be to help Samara and her daughters, while allowing her to stay on my ship

It was either Jack or Kasumi, but I chose Kasumi because I felt that Jack leading the biotic students was great for her personality and the development of her character.

YES.

I liked her ever since ME1. I hated Allers (and even hate the talent-less skank she's modeled after), and having Emily Wong instead would have been a nice treat for those who played the entire series and were really into doing side missions.

Lose James for Jack. I actually like James, but I thought it was a terrible idea creating a new character for the final game, when we've had so many other great squadmates over the course of five years. Jack wasn't my favorite from ME2, but she'd bring a fun and interesting difference in opinion compared to who we already have

1) EDI for Legion. EDI's a great character. But she's already in constant communication with you via the Normandy communications system, so she doesn't need to physically be there alongside you.

2) James for Zaeed. James is a fairly decent character and I have nothing against him. But Zaeed is pure renegade. And since I play a 80-90%ish paragon character, it's nice to have a renegade teammate to balance it out.

James for... well anyone really. I don't hate him as such, he was just... eh. Grunt I spose, similar class.

Haven't experienced Kaiden, but Ashley I'd airlock with Allers. Replace with Zaeed (only if I could actually converse with him, not have him speak at me). Love that fellas voice.

Edi too. The idea of a love story between a sentient ship and pilot seems like it'd be more interesting than one with a  sexbot. Replace with Kasumi (same deal as Zaeed).

Although... since Mordin's role was excellent in ME3 (I wouldn't rob him that for anything), can we use his substitute if he doesn't appear, Padok Wiks? I like him.
