It astonishes me that Meer has so many votes. It disgusts me that so many people praise such awful "acting".

Why?
Because they're both just as good.

I prefer Meer as Shepard.
Commander Shepard throughout the series has often reminded me of some Staff NCos Mustangs (officers that are prior enlisted) that I knew in the Marine Corps. While part of that is the writing, part of what was also Meer's excellent delivery.
While Jennifer Hale was very good as well, compared to Meer I think she occasionally emotes too much. The result for me was that her version of Shepard occasionally felt like the VA was trying too hard, and as a result the character seemed less authentic.
Out of the two I found Meer's performance as Shepard to be more believable.

He is better than Hale in all 3.

This poll was doomed to be a "vote for the gender you play" poll. Hale cannot win this by definition, but considering the ratio male vs female sheps is terribly skewed in favour of the former, we should at least acknowledge that Hale's score is due in part to manshep players acknowleding who the better VO really is. The fact that it's still relatively 50/50 speaks in Hale's favour.

I think it's the other way around. I love Mark Meer's renegade because of his deadpan delivery. I think Jennifer Hale emotes too much as a renegade, making her lines seem less threatening.zaalbar76 wrote...
I felt Jennifer was the best Renegade Shep while Mark for me made the best Paragon Shep.

Meer did a magnificent job, improving greatly from ME1-2, and then putting the cherry on the top in ME3. He's especially notable when you consider he was originally just a placeholder voice for MShep.

Interesting. I had never heard that.
Was it ever announced who they originally had in mind to voice Male Shep?

I don't think so. They recast Meer before making a preemptive desicion.Han Shot First wrote...
