Where is the 'They're both great' option?
You're right!
I like how some people say "I'm gonna vote Meer cause I only played ShepLoo" - brilliant!

There were other great performances as well, I loved Seth Green's delivery of Joker's comments, Martin Sheen had great dialogue, especially at the end of ME3, and Tricia Helfer as EDI was quite good, but what sold me was the moment when (again, mark text) the Reaper is destroyed during the final push of ME3, and the otherwise so neutral and calm EDI cries "Reaper destroyed!" and you hear that emotion in her voice, showing her transformation to a real sentient being.
Voice acting in games in general greatly improved in the last years, which is wonderful, as you need that in addition to a great story and great soundtrack to really convey emotion.

I like this human. He understands.
Not having the luxury of a face to help carrying her acting she still made me fall for Tali. Purely on the personality she conveyed in her voice. Pretty impressive to me.
Sticking to just the Sheps, I agree with the assessment that Hale started stronger, but by trilogy end they balanced out. Love em both. But that doesn't mean I don't love playing (or playing with) a female trooper in SWTOR to hear Hale do more femshep.

For Commander Shepard I prefered Jennifer Hale though.

I didn't like Meer in ME2 but he did a great job in ME3. Hale is still my favorite though. Femshep is awesome on so many levels.
I think this sums it up for me, as well. Generally, I think Hale was overall better, but Meer really stepped up his game in ME3; Hale borderlined on overselling it a bit in ME3.

Meer.
While I agree that Hale is a fantastic voice actress, her performances in the Mass Effect series imho left a lot to be desired. She might have been the better of the two in ME 1, but Meer improved greatly for the second game and in the third he really nailed it. He's able to infuse Shepard with a warmth (Paragon) / menace (Renegade) that's oftentimes absent from Hale's delivery. And most importantly there's a subtlety to his delivery that doesn't hit you over the head with the emotion it wants to evoke.
I found it the other way around. Hale nailed the line"We're going to need bigger guns" in the first game with such dry wit and deadpan it was funny as hell, Meer sounded like he was in a bad action movie.
Hale deliver of the lines that lead up to sex scene with Liara in ME1 sounded caring, sexy, curious, and funny, Meer sounded like a desperate creepy old man begging for sex.
For me Hale actually got better in all 3 games and her performance and natural chemistry with Ali Hillis (the VA for Liara) was great especially in LotSB where the two of them sounded like they were in the same car and room while Meer and Hillis sounded like they were talking on the phone to each other.
I feel that Hale also better chemistry with the VAs for Garrus, Tali, Wrex, Grunt, Joker, Anderson, Legion, Traynor, and Cortez than Meer did. I will say for the record I did think Meer had much better chemistry with the VAs for Ash and Miranda.
The truth is that by the time Meer got better as Shepard, it was too little, too late. Jennifer Hale had already established herself for me as THE Commander Shepard.

I really don't know why but for some reason it feels very good when you know you're not alone in believing somebody is the best, even when it's all subjective. For some reason there is this dread that if not enough people love her then I'll never see her again and I'll get stuck with voice actors from DA2 who were good sure, they weren't bad...but they weren't Hale. Anyway, there just aren't many voice actors I admire that can pull what she can !

I think went both ways. There were lines that Meer absolutely nails that Hale does not. Especially when something needed to sound lighter. Like the mock voice when Shep does "Garrus Vakarian, honored war hero." Meer was much funnier. Hale hit it with the same 'badassfully' she hit everything else.
And personally, I liked Meers version of the bigger guns line. Specifically because it was trying to sound like a bad action movie. Particularly the one I take that line from. 'Split Second' with Rutger Hauer.
Overall I think I prefer Hale when going renegade or badass, and Meer when going funny or paragon.
