Mark Meer's voice is nice, but it is so soothing that it always puts me to sleep.Image IPB

I like Jennifer Hale's, for the most part, but I think her best work on ME was 1 and 3. She sounded kinda bored in ME2, and verbally sexually assaulting Jacob every chance she got was absolutely cringe-worthy.

Overall, I like Hale better. Probably because I played FemShep 99.9% of the time, and that's what I'm used to. And, girl power.

Are we going by the entire series or just ME3? For ME3, I think Meer did better.

For ME1, Hale did better. I think ME1 was Meer was having difficulty adapting to ME1's shorter dialogue lines. It seemed like Hale adapted to it a bit better/faster than Meer did.

In ME2, it was about equal. Hale would've been better than Meer in ME2, but I think her sounding like she wants to jump Jacob every chance she got was a bit negative for her peformance in ME2 in my opinion.

Martin Sheen.

...Oh, for Shepard?

Mass Effect 1 - Hale.
Mass Effect 2 - Both equal.
Mass Effect 3 - Meer.

I hate Hale, so overacting. Meer is the Shepard period.

I allways felt Mark Meer's Shepard lacked personality, and was rather monotone. Jennifer however, gave life to the character.

My personal choice is Hale.  I like Meer just fine, but Hale's interpretation of Shepard is more appealing to me than Meer's.

And for the ME2 romances, part of that issue is because femshep has to intiate her romances where as broshep does not.  And you don't have to hear Shep try to seduce Jacob every time, it was easy to friend zone him and get the awesome bro-hug at the end.

Meer got all the hate in ME 1 and 2 I seem to remember; Jen Hale either had a vocal group of fans or was by general opinion the better voice actor. I think both did incredible jobs in all games. Meer is stronger on some lines and Hale on others, but I don't think it's meant to be a competition. Both embody Shepard in equal measure.

I wouldn't even talk to Jacob with FemShep after I'd heard her dialogue with him.

I find it difficult to separate the talent of Jennifer Hale with some of her batsh!t insane fans. She is a terrific actress, but a large portion of her fanbase is filled with obnoxious, spiteful, man-hating shrews. Unfortunately, this causes me to associate Jennifer Hale with such behavior and now I cannot stand the woman in anything she does, regardless of the fact that it's not her fault that people act like this.

I don't understand why people hate Meer, and call him "flat, boring"
It's obviously the other way around. Hale (at times) sounded completely bored and extremely out of place. Meer did many, many things right. He also had his down moments, but not NEARLY as much as hale.
I've played femshep and maleshep through 1, 2 and 3 many times. So I know what i'm saying. It's obvious. But it seems some fans are too ignorant to realize this.

Meer is so much better in 3 than he was in 1 & 2 combined, but in my opinion, Hale still mops the floor with him.

Meer's voice works really well for Shepard because he sounds like a soldier. My problem with him (especially in 1 & 2) is that he sounds like a robot, there is, again, in my opinion, very little emotion in his voice. Take the part in the Mars mission where Shep yells "James? Normandy? Anybody?" Meer sounds like he's just talking, no calling out for help, just flat conversation type dialogue, where as Hale is desperately calling out for help. I guess I just prefer Hale's delivery.

Hale!
I just feel she conveyed emotion better and was more fun to listen to. Meer did good conveying the gruff soldieresque voice but I personally preferred Hale.
In the end it is all a matter of taste and what you are looking for in your Shepard.

Yeah against popular belief the players split between the voice actors are actually even but Jennifer Hale's fans seem to be alot more vocal about it,
Which side would look larger on a forum? The 50% staying quiet or the 50% shouting they're heads off about how much they're character sounds better?
People just need to accept each others choice rather than trying to change it to their own xD

Speaking as a rather quiet Mark Meer fan, I would agree with this. There have been times when I've seen liking anyone but Hale being compared to misogyny, which means that I just tend to avoid making my opinion known.

OT: Yeah, Mark Meer. I felt that Jennifer Hale either sounded like she was overacting or completely bored, and the gruff tone which she says everything with kind of annoyed me. Her voice work from KOTOR was absolutely fantastic, but I found her work to be very underwhelming in the ME series.

I hate the comparison that's sprung up, but I guess it was inevitable.

I would say Meer, though. I thought his work on ME3 particularly just edged it overall.

I like Hale far more than Meer.

Everytime I hear Meer talking the face of MShep transforms itself into a piece of wood.

For the most of the game, Meer just reads the lines - he doesn't give himself into Shepard. Hale acts as a whole - when FShep is hurt, you can hear trough her words that it's harder for her to speak, unlike Meer. That's why Hale>Meer.

Isn't this a common thread with everything Femshep related? I'm not trying to stir up controversy, but I always get the impression - and perhaps that's just my flawed observation and own bias - that this fan group is a lot more sensitive and, as a result, vocal about these kind of things than the group that prefers to play with male Shepard.
