I've always preferred Meer. I don't know, Hale's voice just seems to...breathy if you know what I mean. I don't really know how to explain it.

Oh, but Martin Sheen was the best.

I haven't yet made a full playthrough of any ME game with FemShep, though I will continue with my ME1 game now. As such I can't compare yet, but I can agree with the statement that Mark Meer got better through the series. Once he got into the role, he really improved a lot.

That being said, the side effect of this debate is this: I now struggle to play any game that doesn't have good VO work that bring characters to life like the DA and ME series do. Skyrim for example is a fantastic game, but the VO work and characters doesn't strike the same chord for me. I guess I've been spoiled lol.

Ms Hale. Mark Meer is great as the badass hero, but I find Jennifer Hale's voice more emotionally resonant and very easy on the ear. There's a certain Renegade dialogue option in Lair of the Shadow Broker where FemShep is facing a certain hostage taker that is very, very convincing.

hard to say, mark meer had the personality of a wet sock most of the way through 1 and shone with the renegade interupts in me2, but in me3, he was epic, better than hale.

That 's even a question/poll? Hale beats Meer. I'm always palyed as default shepard, but once I think after the FemShep trailer tried as a female. The beginning of ME1 she sounds... wird, but later I get used her or she get better I don't know.
But I know Hale is much better and emotional actress then Meer. I loved Hale's Renegade option in ME2 Dossier: Okeer "You've heard the man in the radio. He need directions."

I'm so used Hale I don't even play ME3 as a MaleShep.

Martin Sheen, Lance Henriksen and Fred Tatasciore and many more also good actors/actresses.

Jennifer Hale. Mark Meer usually acted like he was reading the nutrition information label on a box of cat food. Actually, I thought he was much better in his minor ME roles than in his Shepard role, which I personally found to be some of the worst voice acting I've ever heard, unfortunately. He proved to me he could act..so, why didn't he?!? I don't get it...

Jennifer Hale is simply awful in Mass Effect. I mean, if you guys think that's good acting, you haven't played Metal Gear, or Brutal Legend, or something that she actually sounds good in. She's just terrible in Mass Effect.

Haven't played Saints Row in forever, but isn't Julious Samuel L. Jackson?

Hale, I don't know if they were bugged moments, but there are points in ME3 where Mark Meer comes off sounding more robotic then Legion in his delivery.

For me the difference is that Syrim and other Bethesda games are a different sort of RPG. They focus almost entirely on the Player Character, wheras Bioware games are Character Driven. Thus, BW games *require* better VOs as that is where the emphasis lies.

Since I haven't have had any updates recently, and there aren't enough votes to reach a fair conclusion, I've decided to bring this thread (and poll) back from the dead :D

Mark Meer is god-awful, he sounds like he's reading aloud, with no vocal depth whatsoever. Even I can do better than him, and I'm usually described as being vocally stoic.

Hale. As I see it, Shepard is not supposed to be “just” a soldier, he/she is a leader and his/her voice needs to carry conviction, the passion to inspire others. Hale does that perfectly, Meer? Sure, he can do it, but didn’t do it in his role as Shepard. Personally, his Shepard felt flat, passionless. Not what I wanted for the character.

Agree, Hale 100%.  Although watching my husband's playthrough, I will admit Meer improved a lot from ME to ME3.
