Random encounters are the most annoying things of all time! They ruin games for me. The put me off exploring and really dial down the fun for me. I love the fact that DA:O doesn't have em.

what kind of exploring you enjoy doing the most in DA:O ?:alien:

Random encounters would be ok as long as their is a way to turn them off so you have the option of not having to deal with them as they do distract from the story.

I also would like more random encounters, not to have more money (and buy all magic items in game, that has non sense, i like the economic system of the game), only to give more inmersion to game, some points:

1- In subterraean caves, of course should be random encounters, actual polity of no-encounters has no sense.

2- When going in darkspawn's  controlled zone, bloody encounter posibility should be greater.

3- there insn't need of every random encounter end in a battle:
- Encounter with merchants.
- Encounter with people with could give you and optional (and hard) mission
- Perhaps a caravan of something with a problem that give aproval or not to your group. If you do something, perhaps one of the team could let party for some time forcing to use another..

I dont know, there are a lot of ideas to improve for random events, and that could make every game different (more i mean).

I think he made a good point. The random encounters in this game are really fun and dont feel like "grinding" at all. So more of it wouldn't really hurt.

That's because they're not random. All fights are handmade.

Man, the random encounters in FF are so bloody annoying...

It is your choice if you wish to exploit a game design oversight.

Doing so will take your game away from the experience that Bioware has carefully crafted for you.

There is every chance your game will be less fun if you exploit the "infinite gold" design oversight.

It is your choice, but be careful. Just because you CAN exploit design oversights, doesn't mean you should.

Guess I better use poisons liberally because I have limited fights left and I spent over 20g on concentrator agents.

Money is only really tight at the beginning. If you do sidequests, you get a bit every time which adds up. And there two or three that pay extremely well for not a lot of work.

No, you won't have three million gold pieces and can't buy the kingdom. You won't be able to afford all the super items. But you can buy all the potion ingredients you need and still get a few of the expensive items later on.

All you really need are normal potions and maybe a handful of the potent ones. The normal ones aren't that expensive in crafting ingredients.

i have found that if you dont craft potions, poisons or traps you can afford anything you want.  however, you dont get that kind of money until like the landsmeet.

my last playthrough on nm i remember saving up for rose's thorn took forever, but after that money wasn't so much of an issue.  by the high dragon i had around 400g, had already bought rose's thorn, felons coat, andruils belt, reapers robes.  i dont think i bought any other high end items, but even if i wanted like ring of the ages and lifegiver, all of blood dragon armor, far song (although i couldnt get it as i didnt let the smith die), whatever else thats from vendors that i cant think of- i could have afforded whatever i wanted for my 4 party members.  of course the real problem is that you cant afford it until at least half way through the game... but then everything would be too easy :P

I hope the darkspawn camps in Ostagar have infinite respawns, with or without loot dropping enemies, as long as there's something to kill :)

So very very true. <3

Why would it be an exploit?  You should be able to make a profit, you should never operate on breaking even. In fact in my experience, most of the time you should make enough money off of something in your store to pay for what it cost you, in addtion to buying one ,or in some cases two, more of the same item to replenish your inventory.

Then why bother trying to get the mages, the dalish elfs and what ever else help you can get?  lets just go straight for the high dragon at the start of the game

there is nothing "Random" in my mind about any of the encounters.   There are all intentional.  Nothing like say,  the Original Fallout's random encounters.

I second this.

Especially deep roads, no sense there are no darkspawn ambushes there.

I don't really care about the grind levels/gold aspect, but that we never, ever, ever get ambushed in the deep roads just makes zero sense.

Doesn't even have to be darkspawn, it could be deep stalkers, or giant spiders, or mercenaries hired by w/e side you aren't supporting, or w/e, but anything to make the deep roads feel more dangerous and less like a series of instanced dungeon crawls...

Hell make it so that you need a specific rank of survival to get random encounters so if people don't want them they don't raise the skill so don't get them. Or make it specific locations on the map you can go to that have x amount of fights in it and you can leave then come back so it respawns.

EDIT

Oh or make it a battle arena thing like FF7 had or the way the Dwarf Noble origin is where you fight mob after mob, sometimes groups of mobs and you earn money and items. Add in betting too so you can make even more money.

I think this game really needs respawns, why come out with dlc's coming with new armor and weapons when we have no enemys to use them on?Some people would like to go back and fight certain creatures again and battle waves of dark spawn,if you dont simply dont go back to those places and drop your main character and start a new one.

I been looking for a mod that adds better more powerful encounters so far no luck so I decide to stat learning to mod. A cave a Girl outside begging you to save her sister from being eaten by the beast inside swear to serve as your slave if you kill the beast. So if you run inside and fight a dragon.

Maybe you run into a drake on the road. Or maybe a half dozen Alpha ogres attacking some elf maidens.
