I been looking for a mod that adds better more powerful encounters so far no luck so I decide to stat learning to mod. A cave a Girl outside begging you to save her sister from being eaten by the beast inside swear to serve as your slave if you kill the beast. So if you run inside and fight a dragon.

Maybe you run into a drake on the road. Or maybe a half dozen Alpha ogres attacking some elf maidens.

I would definitely install a mod which adds more simple side-quest encounters. They can be random but also hand-crafted.

For example, if I knew how to mod DAO, I'd make a random encounter consisting of you rescuing a caravan being attacked on the road (you'd only get coins/loot if you save the caravan folk), a random encounter where you're ambushed by Shrieks and their pet spiders, with tons of traps all around the field... etc etc.

I would like random encounters for a different reason--because I like battling.

Why not ? Some of the DLC equipment is of a retarded game breaking level. I stopped using Blood Armer on my one guy as the game was to easy. It felt like God mode.  Half dozen Alpha ogres showing up for my 20 lv guys would with all the DLC would be a fun.
Bottom line with this new equipment the game to easy and why there great new content the game getting broke as game balence goes up in smoke. So some very rair fights could help balence it out and keep things fun.
I love to get a more relible souce of drakescale as the game got a well documented and anoying Glitch wear you are on the quest for the urn and after you go threw the whole dungeon The Drakes do not drop it. So you got to start over and hope for the best. And there no other souce of Dragon scale but the one dragon that if you kill you get no way to get the ravanger unlocked. Be nice if you could run in to a dragon at random as a rair encounter at say 18 lv plus.

Except that all the big guys will be too busy bumping into each other to even be able to efficiently attack you.

The way the put encounters in DA:O seems alot more scripted and fun than randomly spawned enemies, makes them more fun IMO

Problem seems to be that it runs out.

I'd say... only have the random encounters kick in, after the game has exhausted its supply of scripted encounters.

Maybe not random encounters on the world map, but some kind of arena area with an unlimited amount of times you can compete would be nice. The proving arena in Orzammar was nice, but you run out of enemies there rather quickly.

Bioware had the perfect chance to put in something like that with Return To Ostagar, but it seems they passed on it. I haven't tried it, but I'm hearing that you can't go back to RtO once you've beaten it once?

I can appreciate Bioware’s intent by limiting random encounters but after several play throughs, the grinder in me does hope for a re-spawn mod to make an appearance.

Random encounters are the most annoying things of all time! They ruin games for me. The put me off exploring and really dial down the fun for me. I love the fact that DA:O doesn't have em.

I agree, random encounters do suck sometimes.

Just nitpicking, 6 alphas=6 leaders, sounds like an ineffective raiding party.

1. There are exactly zero random encounters in the game. Every encounter is fully scripted but there are a few encounters that happen at a semi-random time (after a certain enabling event/conversation).

2. It is annoying that e.g.,the deep roads and Southlands are overrun with darkspawn - but you never meet a one in your travels between game points.

3. Played through the first time on normal with only the two DLCs and no potent lyrium potion exploit. The second time with a bunch of mods adding good (but not god) items and made a bazillion potent lyrium potions (really, really boring) and played through on the hardest difficulty. The second run was a piece of cake compared to the first. I really did it as a test since after one play through, you have seen everything and been in every battle there is. Different groups may require different tactics and the occasional new conversational gambit. But the absence of true random encounters (plus the absence of freedom to just wander) are both immersion breakers and major detractors from replay value for me. Downloaded RtO yesterday and completed my second run this AM. Will not be firing up DA:O again until the expansion is out. great game but the absence of random encounters is a serious flaw, IMO.

That would allow you to have too much gold for the game ecconomy, making nothing valuable. It would also artificially inflate your level, taking all challenge from the game. As it is, if you aren't careful, you can really get in tough spots with healing, etc, and you have to work hard for powerful items. The number you can have is very limited and you have to make choices. The way you spend is as tactical, and takes as much planning as combat. That's a good thing.

Hopping back to PS1 RPGs and realizing I can't stand random encounters anymore, DA:O works fine with me.

Speaking of deep roads why where there no random encounters there? Bandits find me everytime I go to denerim but in "darkspawn infested" caves I'm invisible?

It's mentioned a few times in game that the Deep Roads are safer to travel during a Blight.
Presumably, the reason that there's no random attacksa is beacause all the darkspawn that should be attacking you are on the surface attacking other people :D

I got a random encounter when heading to redcliffe village to do the main quest for it. Randomly there were 3 mages on a hill and a horde of darkspawn below them and they were basicaly sitting there massacring them with fireball Lol when i talked to them they said first enchanter sent them to aid me in redcliffe? ( i already did the mages tower quest ) Ive never seen it happen before and couldnt find any information on it lol I havnt actually started redcliffe yet so idk if they are going to randomly be there during the night encounter or what yet but I just figured Id share it and ask if anyone else has seen it lol.

As for when encounters happen. Some are triggered events but most are random. The meteor Has nothing to do with warden keep or getting shale. Ive actually gotten the meteor event traveling from lothering to my first main quest aka the mages circles. Some are just random and you need to just travel around while others are triggered events depending on what you do in game.
