If you're playing on PC, there is a mod that allows your character to level up to level 50. You have to earn your xps - level 50 is not given to you. I works in Origins and Awakening all the way through Witch Hunt. It also added mods that put new locations on my Origins map. My rogue finished Origins at level 32 and by Witch Hunt, she was level 48. She was a DW rogue with a bow as a ranged, secondary attack.

I was about 2000 xp away from level 25 by the time I finished Origins and I didn't donate anything except a few elfroots/deathroots I found during my travels (didn't use the infinite stock from Dalish camp).

As I said in another thread: What is more impressive, if you walk around Ferelden telling people "Hi, I'm the Saviour of Ferelden and Slayer of the Archdemon" or "Hi, I'm level 26!"?

In the ostargar collect the three vials of darkspawn blood, but not the treaties. Report it to duncan repeat it and skip the conversation. It does not take long to reach the level 25 cap.

Stumbled on this while browseing Google for the level cap...lol.

My take on it is : RPGs are about player choice, if you don't like choice play a linear game or read a book. I think games such as Dragon Age should allow the player to go as high as level 500 or 1000 if they wish (this will enable them to learn all skills/talents and become a god if they want), an option in the menu could flick this higher level cap on or off, while off it'd be a much lower figure.

Anti-god/anti-high level players can also set the difficulty to the highest if they're that intent on their character having a rough time and if they want it even harder, use the worst equipment possible for their class...I'm pretty sure they'll be sick of it after dying several hundred times...lol.

I don't think adding a very high level cap breaks the game as some claim, I think it adds versitility to it, but I suppose we can't expect all players to act responsibly with their characters and place their own restrictions if they see fit (hence why I suggested the menu control, turn it off if you don't like it).

In short I would have thought more choice and less restriction in an rpg is a good thing.

Edit : The above mention level cap switch could have another option under it for adjusting the level and difficulty further of the player's enemies...this could be a slider bar. Then if you wanted it stupidly hard you could get that. Funny thing is then those same players would complain it's too hard...lol.

Wow. I'm just at the end of Origins (About to fight the archdemon) and I'm at level 18. I thought that I had done all of the side quests (Except 2 or 3)so how the heck do people get all of this xp?
I didn't think that there was anyway to grind in this game?

from what I've read and experienced myself, it's difficult to reach the level cap without useing exploits or cheats.

For example there are two exploits on the 360 version - 1) After you've done the quests relating to recruiting Redcliff soldiers to your cause you can keep donating to the respective crates to get exp. (haven't done that one...too tedious...lol).
2)At Ostagar (after Duncan takes you there and sends you out to the wilds to find the scrolls and 3 vials of blood) get the 3 vials of blood but return to Duncan BEFORE you get the scrolls and talk to him, choose the option "we got the blood but not the scrolls" after the short cut scene, click on him again and choose that option again...keep doing until you reach the level you want.

The second one is the one I did after playing the game several times WITHOUT useing such things...I always play vanilla first then try cheats, mods and exploits later.....but Nathander it looks like you're near the end so you might want to test the game with these.

These exploits are also handy if you wish to quickly create a character for quick testing of the talents, skills and so on without investing huge ammounts of hours in doing so (investing such time can be difficult if you're not the kind of person that can spare much time...ie. you're real life job might not give much free time...just an example).

Or you might just have a very huge list of characters you wish to create...like me...lol.

However, as a moderator quite rightfully pointed out earlier in this thread, these exploits are not normally supposed to be used...so if you don't like the results then don't use them as they could harm your gameplay experience if not used responsibly. (by resposibly I mean don't use the "Duncan I got the Blood" exploit until you hit max level as that could have a negative bareing on how your other party members level later, you also will likely not be able to choose their skills...but they should still be same level as your character with all requisite skills for their class already chosen. I recommend taking it as far as level 20 and no more, you got plenty of playing room then and it'll still take a while to level up the rest of the way. Equipment available to buy from merchants will also change in quality as you level inculding from the one in Ostegar, just remember to buy new equipment or your character might not se his/her next sun-rise...lol - enemies will be levelled as well and as such much tougher.

The highest I got any character without useing mods, cheats or exploits was about lvl 21 I think and that, I believe, was my Andraste character (yes, she's supposed to be the same Andraste from the legends...kinda pecular her collecting her own ashes though...lol), I was just fascinated with the old stories of Templars and Crusade Knights - especially the ones like the brothers in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade...and that gave me ample opportunity to create such a character and try and follow it faithfully.

Anyhow I hope my input has been useful to you and you get to try things you might not have got the chance to before.

Actually I was wrong. My character is at level 17 and I was pretty much waltzing through the battles before this point but now as soon as I go through the gate that leads, I presume, to the archdemon I get creamed by swarms of dragonlings & alpha spawn.
I even took the difficulty down to easy and after 20 times of traveling through the gate and trying everything I can think of I just see my party die. How the heck was it this easy to get here on normal and now I can't even even clear out some lousy darkspawn and dragonlings on easy?

In any case thanks for the advise. I'm not going to use cheats or use mods to level up though. I'll just load up an earlier save and try to find some darkspawn to fight on the dark road or something. I never did take Shale there after I said I would.

you're most welcome for the advise.

I would keep the exploits in mind...perhaps write 'em down somewhere, for reference in case you find you need them. From what I've read enemies are usually one or two levels below the player...so the differance would be more noticable the higher your level since it takes any rpg character a lot more time and exp to level up later on and the power differance becomes greater usually.
I noticed a huge difference between a character in the teen levels (ie. 13 to 19) compared to one in the 20's...they were able to take more punishment and dish out more. (edit : by this I mean proportionately to their level, i.e. - a character at lvl 21 levelling to 22 will have a greater power difference in that one level than, say, a character going from level 13 to level 14...leastways it seems that way in practice).

Also I'd reccomend going for easy from the start if you're switching difficulty, the game doesn't seem to change difficulty mid-game very well....I noticed that when I tried to switch from easy to normal or hard...and the gameplay was still the same, started a new game and it was differant.
Also be careful on how you load out your characters...for example a mage with more strength and heavy armor lasted longer in combat than a mage without (I suppose you'd call those battle mages), however with the Arcane Warrior specialisation you haven't got to worry about that so much as it uses you magic score instead of strength for the armor.

I'm probably re-iterating what you already know, but I believe in going over things like that just in case...there's always someone somewhere (myself included) who misses something out...lol, and it's always something small and annoying....irony can be a pain in the rear at times...heh.

Anyhow I wish you luck with you character....I really hope you can give those Darkspawn a headache, instead of them giving you one.

I feel a bit like an idiot.

It finally dawned on me that that little "Army's" symbol could be clicked on to call for aid. I had the dwarf's show up to help and I breezed right past the area that was giving me problems and then went on to finish the game.

Thanks again for the advise BigRedkane2000.

ah...I took it for granted you already were summoning the army and were still haveing probs...lol.
yeah, trying to do that last stretch solo would be practicly impossible unless your character was practicly a god.
At least you sussed it out and finsihed the game...well done, and congrats :-)
and you're welcome again...heh.
