I hope this is in the right forum as I didn't see anything for strictly console play.

Anyway, I haven't played the game much and quickly shot myself in the foot(I think) on the first hour of play. I had been upgrading the armor/etc on the first party member you get in the Elf/Rogue storyline and about dropped my controller as I saw him basically erased from existance(unless of course he comes back later). So, I would like to know, from those whom have already played through atleast once, which characters should I be focusing on? In RPG's you can quickly run into the 'I'm broke' situation because of building up a party member who is going to die or the wrong party member. Any links to perhaps an existing guide would be helpful as well.

Oh and I don't see an option below to have replies goto my email so perhaps a PM would be in order to let me know something's been said?

As far as I remember, the items you equip your party members with in the origin parts of the game are added to your inventory afterwards.

Also, the quality of the loot you pick up is increased with your level, and so is worth more and more the later you get in the game, so don't worry too much about feeling broke all the time in the beginning. You'll get lots of money and good gear later on.
