Yeah, blowing up Ashley's rack like that was god damn pathetic. Compare her ME2 model to the one it ME3. It's sickening.

ASS > Miranda.
BOOBS > Ashley.

They did this to every female character
Liara ME = 1 flat, ME 3 = pr0nstar

Not to mention that 'Hips don't lie'  is official FemShep theme song

You know where do you get off in saying the words 'rack' and 'pathetic' in the same sentence? :?

Over sexualization focus on a character that's already beautiful to just appeal to a larger fanbase doesn't bother you? It's not that she looks worse, I don't think so - it's the fact the way Bioware likes to put "sex appeal" above the character itself. Look at the artbook details - sex appeal EVERYWHERE.

Anyway, it's all subjective anyway, she is still a great character.

lol, I was confused. Your first sentence was a question so that's what I thought. No biggie.

I think the majority of Ashley fans wouldn't mind the new look as much if Ashley had a conversation with Shepard explaining the "new her" so to say. As it is, Shepard just proceeds like Ashley has always been that way. <_<

It's just pretty clear that the outfit isn't taking into account character. It's to make her look sexier as the art department described. Which means following all the social acceptable ways of making a woman sexier. Lighten her skin, put down her hair, touch her up with make up, put her in a tight outfit, skirt, heels, and pump up her chest a little.

It's like saying, this is the value of women. Their appearance, not character. And yeah, she seems to lack character and story in ME3.

I also think she looks so extremely odd running around in that outfit amongst all the other properly uniformed, Alliance women in that opening scene. Especially since Kaidan gets a normal uniform.

It would have been interesting if she was in a normal Alliance uniform at the start, then after becoming a spectre decided to change her appearance. At least then, there is some character development and it looks to be her choice. New life, new look. Minus the skin lighting cause there's all kinds of disturbing racial issues with that. But nope. She's in the sexier outfit right off the bat with no explanation for the sudden change in how she values her appearance at all.

Exactly.  I was expecting her in her bun on Earth, after the events on Mars, maybe even later, puts it down for whatever reason.

I'd imagine this conversation took place in the smelly, dark cave that serves as the Bioware headquarters:

DoucheDesigner 1: "Whelp, we got the muscle-headed gears of war ripoff covered but i really feel like we need more boobs here to attract the pre-pubescent dimwits new  players.Any ideas"
DoucheDesigner 2: "Well, messing with the established women in the crew will propably end up with our throats slit while we sleep by the people have been playing the series from when it was actually good, so we propably shouldn't choose anyone important. But creating new characters is too much effort too...I know, how about the marine chick from the first game who we allmost completely ditched from the second game because we couldn't be arsed?"
DD1:"Thats a great idea! Pre-pubescent dimwits people love sexy chicks with guns. But wasn't she pretty military looking too? Regulation haircut&uniform and stuff? And she had all that unsexy depth of character too."
DD2: "Thats what the art department is for! With flew clicks of the mouse they will have her dressed in something that is more at home in a fetish film, give her a makeover that will make Paris Hilton blush and most importantly give her a rack that will make Lara Croft envious! Like that chick we had in the previous game but can't be arsed to bring back outside cutscenes.Unfortunately, the same people who would have objected changing the established female cast would propably object to her personality changing from a career military type to a bimbo too.And i like my throat unslit."
DD1: "Well thats okay, i doubt they will even hear what she says anyway because they will be too distracted by her cleavage.Dont we know our audience well? Har har!

And then they went to have a cup of whatever rancid fluid they drink in the bizarro world where a design change like this a good idea.

For me a big part of the problem is that the new outfit doesn't even make sense.

She's not a Spectre the first time you see her so she should be in uniform. Alliance uniform. That outfit, whatever it is, is no uniform. What's it there for? It doesn't look like anything useful, practical or military.

It's just... silly.

THIS. I could handle her opting to let her hair down, though I think she'd consider it impractical given that she's often in combat and should have it out of her way to keep it out of her face in the middle of combat. But... that outfit is NOT Alliance standard, something that form-fittingly feminine seems out of character ("If you want me dancing in a mini-skirt and go-go boots, you have to buy me dinner first").

And don't get me started on that pink catsuit monstrosity of a fortunately optional alternate outfit.

Most are focusing on is how Ashley got "sexed up" for the game to get more fans. My problem with the new look is the impracticality of the hair. Do you see many female soldiers serving today with hair like that on duty? No, it is impractical. Especially true for a combat soldier, who ends up getting killed because her long luxurious hair got in the way of a clear shot. Its just stupid really. Also, Ash is always the practical one, so it is also out of character for her.

I really wished she was wearing the Alliance dress uniform with a pony tail when you first met her on Earth, then had the option to change her style once she becomes a Spectre.

It's mostly been said before, but adding my two cents:
1) Her 'uniform' :
As armor, it's impractical for a front-line solider, especially for one who isn't a biotic. It has exposed skin and appears to be incredibly flimsy. If you don't have the ability to generate your own barriers by flicking your wrist, more armor is better. Especially when you're qualified to wear heavy armor.

As clothing, I've seen it referred to as Alliance Officer's uniform (or something similar). Only there is not a single other member of the Alliance Navy who wears anything even remotely like it. If every other female Alliance officer was wearing that as a uniform, then I would accept it. But no one else, not even FemShep (who is, after all, a female Alliance officer) wears it. Which means it isn't a uniform, it's just some clothes. Which leads to the question 'why the hell is she wearing it at all?'

2) Her hair:
Once again, she's a solider. Ash has always had long hair. Fine, some women who serve do. But she, and they, had it tied up. Long hair, worn loose, is a liability. It can get in your face. In close quarters, it can be grabbed to incapacitate you. If you're a front line soldier with long hair, you tie it back because to do otherwise is impractical. (Also, there are usually regulations about that sort of thing).

3)Conclusion:
I don't like the redesign because it doesn't make much sense. Sure she looks pretty now, but there was nothing wrong with the way she looked before. Sure she's an officer now, and thus has to look more 'professional' but she just looks like she's a model playing at being a solider. If anything she looks less professional.

Ashley's hair is no more impractical than her pink/white Phoenix armor or guys like Joker, James, Hackett etc. having beards/goatees.

And most people don't realise that there is no reason for her to have hair in the bun in ME3.

BioWare implemented some things as gameplay and esthetic conveniences.

For example, it is quite obvious she uses full body armor for combat, but for gameplay and esthetic reasons we are given the option to use her standard clothing with a rebreather as well

It was one of the "how can we appeal to the new crowd? Give them Miranda 2.0!" I mean did you see the brick slabs she's smuggling when you first visit her in the hospital?

Initially people thought "she's a Spectre so she's less military" but that doesn't appear until about a quarter of the way through the plot anyway.

To be fair, she was originally going to be a Spectre at the start of the game, and that's what the artists went and ran with. You can see this in the squad selection screen: on her sexy outfit, there's still the Spectre logo. In-game, they hastily took that out.

While the new outfit was completely impractical for a combat enviroment, so was the pink and white Phoenix armor we first see her wearing in Mass Effect 1. She was equally out of uniform when you first meet her in that game.

So while I'm not crazy about the new outfit, I don't realy view it as being any worse than the armor she had in ME1.

In fact one of the first things I always did in Mass Effect 1 was swap Ashley's Phoenix armor out for the Scorpion armor you always find in one of the crates on Eden Prime, and just head canon the Phoenix armor as Ashley being caught by the Geth unarmored, and having to scavenge the Phoenix armor from a dead colonist.
