Wow. I mean wow.

This game is just grim. Mass Effect 2 and 3 have dark tones but this game is just horrible, the most sinister game i have ever played so far, the enemies are all Human and you eventually become your own enemy.

You have choices in the game that are all in-game, no pick A or B, you just do what you think is right and there is nothing right in this game.

I just finished a scene where you can choose vengeance or not, i chose vengeance and you do not feel good about it. The consequences don't affect the games story, but it does make you feel like ****.

The characters start of cool and calm, unaware of the hell they are about to enter inside Dubai and during the story, their emotions start coming out, their melee moves become more brutal and they become more provocative and full of rage.

This is one adult story and i feel that this game deserves some attention. A post apocalyptic Earth under siege by Reapers is **** all compared to Humans turning into monsters inside a sand-storm devastated Dubai.

I haven't had the possibility to play it, but I losely followed it on a PC magazine.
From what I recall it is based on Heart of Darkness. The same book that inspired Apocalypse now. The Setting is Dubai devastated by a sandstorm. The choices seem like a good new touch to a shooter, but the last single player shooter I played was Half Life 2, so I will probably not buy it.
Despite it was made in Germany.

If you value story in games, then this is one you should not ignore, it's a good length and i'm still playing it.

I am thinking of buying it as the setting is especially interesting to me. Also the demo was fun.

@Naughty Bear Would you say it is worth the price?

Definitely, this is not some 5 hour campaign game. I played it for a good 6 hours yesterday and another 5 today but i can tell i am getting close to the ending.

I would say there is some replay value, like choosing to dis-obey orders (you will understand later on) or simply not making a choice can change the game a bit.

But the story is top-notch and the most darkest war story i have played. It's almost a horror game, no jumps but the scenes are horrific, you don't know what inhumane acts are next.

I just commited an inhumane act just recently in the game out of vengeance (you will also understand if you played the game).

You can choose to use special weapon A or just fight using normal weapons i think, but using special weapon A truly has a real ugly outcome.

It's quite scary as your the one who is doing all this, no villain doing him/herself, just you.

There are some hallucinations akin to Dead Space, like the scene just changes into some twisted version but so far i have encountered two of these and one strange situation that certainly points to PTSD.

Mass Effect is like a bloody kids show to the point of laughable compared to this game, but if you got issues with violence, i'd stay away from this.

No I haven't, but heard that it didn't get that good of reviews, and while the game's atmosphere and contrasts are good, it often overrides moral dilemmas with relentless killing.

But that's only what I've read, and haven't had any intentions off finding out for myself whether it's good or not.

And what shooters don't have this? Mass Effect 3 amped this up, CoD has been doing it non-stop for the last couple of years, Battlefield has, Medal of Honour is getting back into it, Uncharted 1,2 and 3 is chock full of it, same with Killzone, Gears of War and Halo.

And this isn't exclusive to the FPS genre either, as long as the 'wider audience' mentality is going strong, mindless violence and relentless killing isn't going anywhere.

The demo doesn't do the game justice really, you don't see how the situation turns to **** or any choices. The shooting mechanics are fine and the enemies drop like flies instead of soaking them up.

The cover system is odd, B to jump over corner and i keep pressing A due to so many games having it set as A. Sprinting is dodgy but nothing game breaking, never bumped into a glitch so far.

The moral dilemmas, make you feel bad and unlike some games, you actually see the consequences of your actions up close and you do get questioned about them throughout the game.

The situation in the game is really bad, and you do not help at all despite trying to, you really do **** over the innocents.

Which really doesn't make the game that different from the ones you listed, no?

But as I said, I can't personally judge the game since I haven't played, but I'll make sure to take a look at it and come to my own conclusion.

That would be best.

Good to hear it's a decent length. Your description has got me even more interested now. I'll check it out.

I've just finished it, the ending was a nice twist. The epilogue was a nice surprise, i looked on the wiki and it has 4 endings depending on what you do at the end.

So, how far are you Rob and Iggy?

I finished it 1000/1000 and did all endings...

Like I said, it set my brain on fire, made me question who I was as a person and left me sick for most of the week.

One of my friends just bought this last week. Just looked like a run-of-the-mill shooter with a few tactical options involving squdmates like ME at first glance. Backrounds and visuals also looked pretty basic and uninspired. He said it was amazing when he finished it recently, though.

I'll ask to borrow it and give it another look.

I got to ask, when you do the helicopter sequence again, Walker calls out 'this isn't right,we did this before'.

What the hell?

The game blew me out the water in terms of story. Man oh man. And to be honest, the relentless killing is a good deconstruction of other modern fps hero genres. You sink deeper and deeper, killing more and more, yet in other games you're supposed to feel like a hero? Nah **** that.

And yes, that was a mind****. Oh its just picking up from the beginning that was in medias res right? Nah... lol

Anyone notice that the loading screens become more ****ed up? It starts asking you if you feel like a hero or if you don't care about killing because it's just a video game?

Yeah, right after the phosphorus mission (trying to be vague as possible). I havent had a game leave an impression like that in a while.

So finally a game showing how stupid it is to join the Army? Good, it's about time.
