Wow. I mean wow.

This game is just grim. Mass Effect 2 and 3 have dark tones but this game is just horrible, the most sinister game i have ever played so far, the enemies are all Human and you eventually become your own enemy.

You have choices in the game that are all in-game, no pick A or B, you just do what you think is right and there is nothing right in this game.

I just finished a scene where you can choose vengeance or not, i chose vengeance and you do not feel good about it. The consequences don't affect the games story, but it does make you feel like ****.

The characters start of cool and calm, unaware of the hell they are about to enter inside Dubai and during the story, their emotions start coming out, their melee moves become more brutal and they become more provocative and full of rage.

This is one adult story and i feel that this game deserves some attention. A post apocalyptic Earth under siege by Reapers is **** all compared to Humans turning into monsters inside a sand-storm devastated Dubai.

So finally a game showing how stupid it is to join the Army? Good, it's about time.

This game makes ya feel  worse than being Rick santorum well almost.

Hackneyed TPS mechanics withstanding, the game looks really interesting. Hopefully it'll be available for a pretty good price during the upcoming Steam sale.

Also, TotalBiscuit did a really good video on it.

That's EXACTLY what it is. There is even a character named Konrad in homage to it.

It's actually more about how silly it is to think that there a things as white knights and heros in war.

Walker ignoring orders and trying to be a hero Modern Warfare style is what starts the plot in the first place.

Oh... and I have to say it:

"Welcome to Dubai."

I love how this game puts down those types.

Wow, just wow.

Also, what the **** happened. What was real and what was not?

The 33rd and the CIA, all that **** still happened, right?

Yup, same reaction here. The CIA parts are real, also the *spoiler* of Konrad pointed out  all the hallucination episodes during the campaign when you find his *spoiler*, but it's also speculated that Walker died during the helicopter crash at the end of chapter 12.

Plus look who voiced 1st Lieutenant Adams...lulz.

I don't understand, if walker died at the helicopter crash, then why did we continue after? Watching lugo die, the Burj Dubai etc etc? Wouldn't it just go back to the start instead?

Apparently it was his own Purgatory.

I've played an finished it. Even did all the different endings. But yea I loved the psychological twists*spoiler* like the bit just before the last chapter where Walker starts  hallucinating and is attacked by Lugo(who's blaming him for leaving him to die) and then it turns out be just a heavy.
And the end was brilliant, reminded me a bit of Jacob's Ladder.

That's pretty much the basis of the theory. It's interesting, but i feel like it waters down the impact of Lugo's death, Adams' last stand, and Konrad's reveal, because Walker's Purgatory/Limbo is the repetition of the campaign countless times without him realizing it.

(E.g. remember when Walker noted that the helicopter sequence was deja vu, because we played it at the beginning of chapter 1? Evidence for the theory suggests that the copter sequence wasn't a flashfoward to future events, but a clue to the cycle of Walker's ever repeating Purgatory/Limbo.)

It sucked, too short. MP mode was weak.

Better choice is Gears of war 3, been out longer, and more players online.

Spec Ops is not really about the Multiplayer, if you ask me.

Oh lord, this game punched me in the gut so hard.

Actually, I would say it's one of the few that actually has "mature" writing. It's also one of the only games I've played that perfectly utilises gameplay mechanics, game design, and meta-design to enhance its narrative and theme; most others just segregate story and gameplay.

Good to see more people enjoyed the game.

Though it's weird that this thread gets another reply the morning I remembered “cognitive dissonance" and searched for where I got it from.

I agree that it waters down Lugo's death but overall, i feel it waters down the consequences of Walkers actions. I personally hope he did not die at the helicopter crash. This game is really focusing on realism and for those who are non-believers in an afterlife/hell etc this kind of ruined it for me.

I also still don't understand the purgatory part. Did Walker die at the beginning or at the second helicopter scene?

And after that if Walker really did die at the helicopter scene why does it not repeat from the start where they are trudging across the desert instead of carrying on after the crash? Does this cycle of Walkers suffering repeat after he commits suicide/kills his rescue/gets rescued?

I wonder what happens to Adams.

Oh and who saw the creepy scene when you die and it's just he white phosphorous victims with the woman and the child in the foreground with the 'twinkle twinkle little star' theme being hummed by a woman? Pretty creepy and personally on par with a scene from any horror game. Not something you expect from a shooter.

I was pretty freaked out when the loading screen started to mock me.
The further you progress in the story the more surreal the whole thing gets. The screens were just the icing on the cake. :o
