Zevran? Import error? How will Bioware handle this?

Hey all,

I played through DA Origins, imported that game into DA Awakening, played through and imported that game into DA II.

I was very happy with how all the games went. I achieved the perfect ending for each, in my mind. There was one hiccup though...

Towards the end of the game a quest became available involving Zevran. Normally this wouldn't have been a problem... except for the fact that my Warden killed Zevran when he tried to kill me a second time. Now, overall, I wouldn't mind Zevran somehow surviving, he is a sneaky bugger after all. However, one thing does give me pause: I have a friend who had an importation error between Origins and Awakening, in which his Warden had supposedly romanced Zevran in Origins (he got the steamy love letter from him), even though he had never actually romanced the lad at all.

So, this is what I'm afraid of: that I'm going to get halfway through DA III, and I will find my big, masculine, badass Warden cuddling with Zevran in a tent.

What has me ripping my hair out, is that there doesn't seem to be any way to CHECK whether any plot details got mixed-up between imports.

I have to think that this isn't an isolated fear, and surely many dedicated players of Dragon Age would be outraged to find the story that they have been building corrupted (for example, who died to the Archdemon, who the Warden romanced, how the Architect was dealt with, etc.).

While I would play through DA II once again if that is the only way to fix the problem, I would really hate to get 2/3 of the way through that very LONG game, only to run into Zevran again. Turning this game from something fun to something tedious is a sure-fire way of discouraging your fan-base.

So, what do you all think? Importation error?

Also: how do you think Bioware will deal with this in DA III? How SHOULD they deal with it?

Hm. An interesting problem. And I don't see how plaything through DAII would fix the problem. I've heard of this bug but never actually encountered it myself since I play on Xbox and I hear that it has only been a problem on the PC. Definitely an importation error. I encountered a few others in my playthrough of DAII that I guess were never fixed and will never be fixed seeing as the game has been out for so long.

As for the implications for DAIII, I hope they resolve some of these importation issues because they definitely take me out of the story. But somehow I doubt they will. I'm not even sure how they would fix an importation issue that goes all the way back to the first game.

They might as well just start over again with this. The Awakening issues cheated me out of an entire quest because Nathaniel is marked as dead even though the epilogue said otherwise.

Give us a comic or, even better, an in-depth chart to pick our decisions from previous games and start fresh is what I say. It's better than dealing with these import bugs that will never be fixed.

Hm, it seems like a similar problem was being discussed over here, and judging from what people quoted from the developers it might not get a fix.  Which is a real shame.

The love letters have a very low bar for being sent. It only checks the romance variable. Your friend had it set to true due to some stray flirty line. It doesnt require you to sleep with him or even having a reasonably high approval.

Zevran's love letter takes precedence over the others. You can be at 100 approval with say Leliana and have a full blown romance with her but because you didn't raise Zevran's approval enough for anything to come of the casual flirting you will get his letter. Leliana (or whoever) will only get jealous forcing you to pick once you reach high enough approval with Zevran. Similary Zevran won't offer you tent time or any some such at low approval so it's perfectly possible to have the "romance" going without realizing it as long as Zevran stays at low approval.

There is no information lost or corrupted when exporting save files to DA2. The romance variable is not bugged. Zevran ignores it's presence in DA2 though. He acts like it's not set to true even though it is.

There are ways to check and change the romance variable. Simplest is perhaps to download the mod "epilogue editor" at the DA nexus. You can also use a save file editor to check it though you'd need to look up the location. Lastly the developer console in DA2 offers a command that lets you check your DA:O history.

Because a masculine Warden can't be gay. /snort.
