They did, they could have opt out, and I'm sure Leonidas would have still went down fighting, the same Shepard could have opt out by ending conflict but not on his terms.DEATHSCOPE wrote...
If the Spartans had something that could defeat the Persians, I think Leonidas would've sure as hell used it, instead of saying, "No, we don't need it. One of our men might die, I don't want to sacrifice him, even if it might save all of us."Ingvarr Stormbird wrote...

And that would be fine - laudable even - if it was only Shepard. But you made everyone else pay the same price. They were depending on you to save them from the Reapers. Instead you turned them into Reapers.
It's like telling Leonidas "You killed everyone. You should've accepted one of Xerxes terms and saved them, instead of this stupid last stand which achieved nothing, except feeding your stupid moral high grounds". You think survival comes first. I think survival is pointless if we lose something important in the process.
And you know what's important? Lives are important. Survival is what we are all striving for.
You still win with refuse

Warning spoilers.
I had only a slight interest in Deus Ex before watching this.
Now I might dish out the cash for it. Well done.

It's a stellar game, good story with mature subjects. I will warn you, it's recommended to play stealthily rather than guns blazing because the game is hard, brutally hard in harder difficulties, you'll be hiding, crawling, and hacking a lot, but it's awesome! Also, augmentations=awesome, nothing better than having a gun for an arm.Nezedone wrote...

All Spartans have to do to survive is to merge into Persian culture (be declared "friend of Persia" etc, etc). All of these things could be counsidered little more than matters of personal beliefs. But they abhorred this choice.DEATHSCOPE wrote...

Again, I say, not everybody is hell-bent on survival. Strange it may seem to you.
What you don't understand is that the Spartans do not have a race of sentient robotic beings bearing down on them, wanting to wipe out them out to the last men, women, and child. And again, Leonidas is just one man who thinks he's speaking for an entire culture of people. He refused and he and his men paid the ultimate sacrifice. Shame really.
Also I believe the Battle of Themopylae had a strategic purpose as a delaying action, that could possibly save lives and turn the tide of the war. This is not the case here.

No you don't. You don't get the "finished game" achievements, so it's just an extended Game Over scene.
Wait so if I picked Destroy but my game glitched and I didn't get the achievement. Then it doesn't count as an ending and My Shepard is floating in somekind of state of Limbo?

So you aren't an SS concentration camp guard gasing them but you are still Adolph Eichmann signing them away in the comfort of your office. (Someone else already godwinned so I am in the clear) Just because you are not actively killing them does not excuse your passive involvement. You can stop it and save everyone but you don't. Their blood is on your hands. Standing back and watching someone get killed when you have the power to save them is just as bad as firing the shot yourself.
...
Since you had to go that direction; It's more like you are the one jew, who refuse to rat out the location of every other, even though you know the SS will eventually find them anyway and have their word that the camp is lenient.

Did you play L.A. Noire or Mafia?Sion1138 wrote...
Dude, when I play a damn RPG, it's about my avatar and by extension his environment and the events unfolding therein.
If the player character dies, that's a loss right there. If both the player character and everybody he ever interacted with dies, that's a catastrophic loss.
I guess you can't win these games, eh?
L.A. Noire is not an RPG and not a trilogy either. It's a detective story that began and ended in one outing. I did not identify with what's his name... Det. Cole Phelps, right. Especially since the game takes away control of Phelps in the latter part and puts you in control of the other guy. You don't control Phelps when he dies.
(It's a great game though and the conclusion to Cole's story was entirely fitting considering his past and the events in-game. I was not mad nor depressed about it as I was with Mass Effect 3. Again, it was not a role-playing game.)
But all of this doesn't even enter into the issue, the comparison is moot. Apples and oranges all the time on this forum, get's on my nerves.
"But what about that one movie I saw? What about that book I read? What about that other thing that had the thing?"
