On my 6th playthrough on ME2. I think ME2 is the hardest game in the trilogy. Not the hardest game ever, lol not even close. I'm not a complainer when it comes to challenge because I play games like Dark Souls and I am even playing Diablo III on hardcore. ME1 on insanity was so easy bsically because you had unlimited ammo. ME3 is easier because the combat is refined and you have more tactical options, thus if you die in ME3, it's your fault. ME2 is borderline unfair at points. The AI is not the problem, it's the level design. I feel like I am in a box. I have no problem with more enemies and every enemy having shields/barriers. But when the level design is terrible, it just gives the AI an unfair advantage. I am currently on the collector ship right now and sweet jesus. i can't believe how bad my head hurts right now. You got Harbinger throwing staggerring game breaking balls of death exposing you to instant death. Also no matter who I have, everyone on my team is incompetent. There's really no strategy to win this as a level 16 sentinel. I just have to pray to god, that I will win. I tried everything. seriously what crack head at Bioware though the level layout for the collector ship was a good idea? London in ME3 is SOOOOOO EASY. I feel like a tool for not beign able to win this.

ME2. The lack of ammo was one of the more difficult parts about that game, enemies required a ton to put down and there was little to be had.
Actual combat difficulty was similar, but the ammo thing is what I remember.

Harbinger is not hard for the right reasons. He's just a punk who spams stagger attacks and exposes you to raining ammo that will kill you in 1/4th of a mili second. There's nothing I can do. I love to kill my enemies with simple gun on gun your done(couldn't help to quote Elpressador) I was so angry, that I just ran out there with barrier and my geth shotgun fully charged and went into autistic rage.
Where's the tsar bomba when you need it?
I mean for the love of god. Miranda and Thane are maxed out on warp and I gave them heavy warp. I have warp. I use three sets of warp on one enemy. I am using a beast of an assualt rifle. I really don't know what else I can do.

I recently finished an ME2 insanity run and started my first ME3 insanity, at this point I would say ME3 is harder. I would agree that ME2 has its rage moments, namely the first time your on the collector ship when the platforms are flying in, but other than that I found it quite easy, including the suicide mission.
Personally what I think makes ME3 is the gear and gadgets used by the AI. The AI loves to throw grendaes when your in cover which forces you to expose yourself, and nearly all enemies will throw them at you. Secondly, turrets are death dealing machines if your caught in the open on insanity. I have also noticed guardians can be quite sneaky at times at times.

ME2. definitely. Infiltrators ran out of ammo all the goddamn time, others had to sit in cover and wait for cooldowns, even Sentinels - although, it was mostly *boring* rather than hard. Soldiers... they had it easy, just shooting **** up - then in ME3 the nerf bat stuck...
in ME3, Adepts/Sentinels just spam a CC power -> Throw/Warp or on bigger enemies Warp -> Throw, and own everyone with combos. everything dies in seconds, just... don't peak out from the safety of your cover for more than 3 seconds.
