Every time I try to cross the bridge at Ostagar, the game crashes. Any ideas?

Same.
After a talk with the king and duncan (I think hes name is), if I try to cross the bridge and follow duncan the game simply freezes. I get no error messages, it just freezes. And the savegames I made at Ostagar do not work either. No problem before this.
(Now I have two games I recently bought that are unplayable, HOI3 and this. Torrents steal their money, yes. Bugs steal ours....

Have you guys tried turning down your graphics quality, etc? I noticed that my game was lagging majorly during the fights on the other side of the bridge, but it never crashed. That might have something to do with it, though.

go download a program called Riva Tuner (google it) and then underclock your gpu about 50 and memory 50 and youll run it fine

Did the Riva Tuner trick, tried to lower my graphics etc. Nothing helps.
And if it is a graphics bug, why would it corrupt the saves from Ostagar?
Now when I try new things I always have to take a savegame before Ostagar. It seem like this problem has persisted for a long time without a solution, seems like I just spent 50 eur for a very short game.

I see this problem posted a lot yet see no answer/solution. WTF?

Well I came across a solution that allowed me to cross the bridge!
I cheated and used the teleport cheat: runscript zz_jump_around
http://www.gamefaqs....ode/920668.html
Game works fine after I got past the bridge.

I've had a similar issue - and the RivaTuner "fix" worked for me (also turned the fan up to full on my Radeon HD 3870, and took the GPU and memory speeds down to the lowest setting within the blue bar on the RivaTuner slider).
However, there may be a saved game file glitch as well that's affecting some users. I'd submitted my question on the EA Support page and (after almost two full weeks) received a response yesterday that told me to delete all my saved game files and start over (!) While this wasn't the appropriate solution to my issue, it would indicate that there is a saved game file issue that affects play in Ostagar.

I usually wait for a 1.02 patch for games so I can avoid the bugs - no luck here though as I have the same crash. This seems to be a common crash, so surprising it's not fixed. Looks like I have blown my money with bioware

I crashed at Ostagar on the bridge as well.
I got across by only looking at the ground while crossing it. There are a lot of scripted scenes of chaos and destruction while crossing. By ignoring them and just pointing the camera at the ground, they won't affect the graphics card.

i got this error aswell and after reading various places they all seem to be blaming ATI but im running a nvidia chipset and 8800GS which never makes it over 60 degree's full load so unlikely to be load problems

okay got irritated earlier and did a full uninstall, reinstalled & updated to 1.02a before even starting the game. loaded up my old save and made it clear across the ostagar bridge i kept crashing out on so it seems like an error may have occurred during first install or something corrupted over time, either way if your having this error try reinstalling or even re'downloading if you got a digital version. good luck peeps i hope i wont be back for a while lol

Just adding that I, too, crash at the bridge. Posting for QA awareness at Bioware.

I crashed at the bridge everytime as well. the only thing that has fixed it was turning the textures down and the anti aliasing down to at least 2x. I tried the cpu fix and phenom quad core fix, this has been the only way for me to pass that area.

I too have been having this problem recently.
I am currently running:
E8400 (Core 2) 3.0 Ghz
4G DDR3
Radeon 3870
Windows 7
Catalyst 10.3 drivers (tried multiple versions)
I have just recently started having the pc lockup issue when I enter Ostagar. I was previously able to play through the entire area, and then suddenly it all got worse. Since then, I have reformatted my PC, re-installed all of my drivers/dragon age, and now it's worse than ever when I enter Ostagar. It's literally unplayable.
I have been monitoring my GPU temperature while playing & while idling, and it has never peaked beyond 76 C, and my fan is working properly. I don't think temperature is the issue.
I can play BC2 on high settings just fine for extended periods of time with no issues, as well as Dragon Age pre Ostagar. The strange thing is that I had previously played approx 1/3 of the way through DAO with no problems (save for maybe a few crashes here and there, nothing recurring), I'm only experiencing them now and they seem to be riddled in Ostagar.
I'm currently running 10.3 catalyst drivers. Pre-format, I tried rolling back my drivers from versions 10.3 all the way to 9.7, as well as all of the instructions described above:
Change GPU clock settings, disable AA, disable Catalyst AI, etc.
None of it seems to make a difference.
To me, it seems like this is clearly a Dragon Age Origins problem, as it's very specific in the game. Obviously however, it is closely tied with ATI because it is able to completely crash the computer, requiring a hard reset.
Quite embarrassing, as ATI promotes their catalyst software/cards with Dragon Age Origins.
In all seriousness, and by no means a threat measure, my next card will likely be a GTX 470; I'm eager to see how nVidia has kept up these days.

I have played around with the settings a bit more, and have finally found something that seems to work - playing in Windowed mode.
So far, I have played for roughly 1 hour, all in/around Ostagar, and have no crashes thus far.
Still using 10.3 Catalyst drivers on a 3870, with Win 7.
I will try to run fullscreen mode again as soon as I leave the Ostegar area (right now I'm at the Tower of Ishal).
Hope this helps someone.

I never had a crash till the latest patch. now I'm crashing about 5 minutes into Ostagar. I can ever so slowly advance through it using the quicksave everychance I get, but this is so frustrating!!
I tried windowed mode but now it just crashes immediately on the load.

Having a similar problem crossing the second bridge in the Dead Trenches. Twice now the game has messily CTDed after the Shriek ambush on the bridge. Frame rate stuttered during the fight then a crash within seconds after. This is the 5th or 6th time I've played trough the dead trenches and never had this problem before. :-/
