It's exactly what Synthesis did pre-EC. They downplayed it in the EC but people already hated Synthesis by then.

No it's not, as speculation goes the half-toaster and robot-DNA theories were some of the silliest about Synthesis. The Catalyst talked about a new "framework" for all life, analagous to "DNA". The EC just had to clarify that it wasn't a literal genetic change by describing it as a change to the "matrix of all organic life".

Synthesis comes out of nowhere, in the hugest way possible. Hey Shepard, jumping into this beam will cause a big green beam to go across the entire galaxy giving robots DNA and making all chipmunks part robot. Even if Eezo is magical, it's not nearly even the same class as Synthesis.

Synthesis didn't just come out of nowhere based on Saren, Project Overlord, the Collectors, and the Reapers.

This is very true.

You are right, it's magic. It's not space magic. [So you're actually completely missing the point here]. Whether the Mass Effect fields work in the real world is immaterial - it's fiction; that's not the problem. "Space magic" is a derogative term used for poorly, or not at all, foreshadowed plot twist. This is why synthesis is space magic - it comes out of no where. The possibility is never alluded to before you are told about it by Godchild. It's only there because it's necessary to wrap up the plot.

And so?  Dealing with a super advanced race with literally billions of years of continuous existence under their collective belts, why should the races of ME have had a clue synthesis was possible?  It's like the Geth mission where Legion figures out you can convert the Heretics mid-mission.  New possibilities get sprung on you in ME changing your decision making!  The horror!

You're saying that having people use eezo with augmented implants is sillier than a beam that shoots out into the galaxy and changes the genetic makeup of every single inhabitant - organic and AI - somehow differentiating between sentient and non-sentient machines?

Again that isn't what Synthesis does, there is no genetic change implicit in the Catalyst's description and no mention of any direct changes to synthetics. Even if there was a direct genetic change it could not be achieved in synthetics because they have no DNA so that should have hinted to you that something about your theory was wrong.

Still, it wouldn't be that much sillier than pre-natal exposure to eezo turning you in to a wizard.

And the Protheans, Asari, Thorian, Geth/Quarian relations and EDI's evolution.

We definately played different games if you don't see all the foreshadowing.

It's like saying that control comes out of nowhere too just because everyone believed the only crucible use was wiping out the Reapers.

If Synthesis is Space Magic....

...then there is no reason the ending has to be as stupid as it is.

As I said before just because it is not explained in the Codex or the universe previously doesn't mean it isn't true or believable. It's true that the effects of Synthesis are pretty god-like. But the technology of the reapers is exactly that. Which I am sorry whether you like it or not DOES make it believable within the mass effect universe. And bringing out something like this at the last minute has been implemented and not criticized in sci-fi long before this. Honestly I think that most people trash the ending boils down to this.

No final battle with Harbinger - If the catalyst had been after an epic owning of harby at least the players would feel they did something more significant than running into a beam. Big mistake here by bioware imho. Alot of people can handle no final battle. But others pick apart the ending to find some way to vent their displeasure. But honestly guys is it the ending you are really mad at or the fact that you didn't get any "Final Battle" ? Cos that was the one thing I still think is missing from the ending. If Shepard had instead got up injured from harbies destruction explosion and walked into the beam I think that most would have forgiven what happened from then on.

Mass Effect is medium rare sci-fi: Just like Star trek, it has enough plausible science and explanations behind things to give it weight, while also having the human characters encounter things far beyond plausibility. In other words, it's science enough to be interesting while also fiction enough to be interesting.

The DNA he mentions is also a framework and also made out of organic and synthetic life-forms; it's either an analogy or complete nonsense. The extended explanation doesn't mention genetics at all, but goes on about organic energy and the matrix of all life.

Control doesn't come out of nowhere.  TIM mentions it, and Shepard even talks to Hackett about it at some point (to which Hackett says that the only option is to destroy the reapers).

There is absolutely no foreshadowing of magic robot DNA.

Even this synthetic disagrees with you...

That little thing called suspension of disbelief.... Synthesis breaks it.

And none of those were produced by a magic green beam of energy that can tell the difference between organics and synthetics

In your opinion. Everyone has a different threshold for things like this. It's people like you that think yours should apply to everyone that get a facepalm from me.

Except the matrix of all life is totally DNA, or Computer code for the Synthetics.... oh look, we have two incompatible representations at a fundamental level.

Any of the destroy/control foreshadowing is produced by a magic red/blue beam of energy that can tell the difference between hardware running AIs/VIs/simple programs or reaper/non-reaper life.

The matrix of all organic life is more likely to be some sort of magic that the Asari, Protheans and Thorian use for communication. Things are contained and arranged by a matrix, so the matrix must be something super-personal, not sub-cellular.

Pre-EC it wasn't plain, but in the EC do they even say that machines get retrofitted with roboDNA?  I thought they just say that now AI will understand organics.
