We needed somebody to say that Anderson was good at his job so we could believe that Anderson was good at his job, so we got Coats.

"Is Anderson truly good at his job, though? Can we get some kind of concrete statement here? A poll, maybe?"
"Anderson is good at his job."
"Cool. Thanks, Coats."

coats is less random than kay lang (take that, ninja).

but for really random, it has to be Hallway Guy on the Normandy.

Hallway guy is a Reaper.

He indoctrinates you.

You heard it here first.

It's really weird. I'm not complaining, but... it's... really weird. That's basically how I feel about it, and I kinda wish he'd featured in an earlier mission and not the... well, the series finale. It's just... odd, the way he's handled. Very odd.

But also... strangely amusing, so yes, Hail Coats.

I agree. He really needed more...reason to be in the end.

(Also, it's great to see you, Jeff! :o It seems like so many of the regulars have left the boards. It makes me kinda sad.)

Major Coats will be the hero of Mass Effect 4. In fact, Mass Effect 4 will be actually called "Life of Major Coats" and it'll be a Heavy Rain-like QTE game based on his early life. We'll know everything about him, from his first girlfriend to that last chat with his father.

ME4 will end with him looking at the Big Ben, while his Uncle's words will be whispering in the wind: "From great powers comes great responsibility Coats".

It's great to see you, too, Bekkael. I'm not sure how long I'll be hanging around here this time around; the negativity is still so extreme in so many places, and it's hard for a guy who didn't hate EC to catch a break sometimes. And I don't really want to dissect the ending meanings over the course of thousand-page threads, either, and I feel like I've said what I have to say for now about the series' cast.

That said, I'm sure I'll have more to say when I replay, and when the DLC hits, and when more games are announced in the future... :P

Same for me. I had issues, like so many people, but I still look forward to more Mass Effect DLC, and future Dragon Age games. There's still lots of BioWare for me to love.

My first impression was that he was a general from Dragon Age who just sort of dimension hopped over into the Mass Effect universe. In fact, I thought maybe his voice sounded familiar.

Actually I didn't think he was that outta place seeing as it was set in London. I was more wtf when Anderson said he was born in London. I was like with that accent! No way.

I like how he photo bombs your epic speech to your squad at the FOB if you don't have Ashley/Kaidan with you.

Alas, yes. Like so many others, I think ME3 broke her heart. :crying:

You know, I could see Coats as being the Mass Effect universe's version of Hawke...

He would've developed an "accent" (dialect, really) if he had been raised there for most of his life, not if he was just simply born there.  /justsayin'

Aw, shame. It broke my heart, too, but I managed to reconcile, mostly.

I had no idea who he was supposed to be, the first time I played ME3. All of a sudden, there was this red-shirt nobody who got speaking lines and started talking to Shepard like he knew her or something. He's there in my final pep-rally speech, he's yapping at Anderson all the time... it was very weird, and very out of place.

I didn't see the Big Ben trailer until after I beat the game, so I had no clue who Coats was. It really was like someone had won a "be a character in ME3" contest!

He seems to regard it as  "home" though .. still .. guess I did kinda forget that. Im half  Arab and was raised in Lebanon and Kuwait but somehow I still ended up with an English accent. Weird that. Guess I came to believe that it was genetic you know like the  shape of youre vocal chords. But I guess I probably picked it up from me mum.

Major Coats has this weird stare.

Just keeps staring at me.

Thinks he is so cool because he was in a CG trailer.

Yeah. The dude shows up at the last minute while Shepard did all the hardwork. Probably there to take all the credits.

Hey while you were getting drunk and ***ing aliens he was fighting Reapers every day for months and surviving.

I think the guys on Earth deserve more credit than Shepard when it comes to having huge dangling balls.

Woah man, don't take Shep's space herpes lightly. His balls might not be as big or dangly, but he has the determination and endurance to ignore the itching

kinda odd that he didn't charge the beam

At some point it was stated that Major Coates was commanding an artillery battalion. IIRC it was during the mission briefing with Anderson and the other Alliance battalion commanders.

If he was commanding an artillery battalion it would actually make sense that he wasn't participating in the beam rush. In that case his unit was likely slated for a supporting role, providing artillery support for the infantry and armor force that was making a push for the beam.
