ME3 not starting and Origin frozen: it's due to Avast antivirus update.

Complete explanation: Some days ago ME3 suddenly stopped working (couldn't start it at all) and Orign was getting so frozen that I couldn't even close it by switching off my pc (I had to reset it).

A bit desperate and a lot pissed off, I remembered that some days before I had updated my Avast Antivirus to version 7.0.1456. So, I disable it: well, now both ME3 and Origin work perfectly.

Note: you don't need to uninstall Avast, but only to disable it temporarily BEFORE you start ME3 and/or Origin. Disabling Avast after you start Origin or ME3 won't prevent any trouble.

In a few words: to avoid ME3 not working and Origin freezing temporarily disable your Avast antivirus before starting them.

I hope this will help!

Some antivirus software will look at internet traffic...a pretty big hit with this game. Sometimes you can turn off just the network part of it, and leave the rest running. Or...and better yet...tell it to ignore those ports. Depends on your software.

Thanks for the tip, mate. As I said, I hope these posts will help, since I checked in the internet and several people had exactly this issue.

God I've been stuck with this for days, unable to play at all.
Thanks, I hope Avast is aware of this problem and fixes it soon.

Tho multiplayer is unplayable as it randomly cuts the connection and I don't feel like keeping my antivirus disabled for hours.

- Update: I added "MassEffect3.exe" to WebShield exeptions and I could play games.

Could you tell me how you did that exactly,
i added both origin and ME3 to the exclusions list on my web shield, but
I keep having to disable it to launch ME3.

I would like to be able to launch the game without disabling it if possible.

I'm happy it helped you. About the exclusion, I don't know exactly how to exclude the .exe from webshield... I just disable the antivirus temporarly

>Exclusions
Type MassEffect3.exe into the empty line under "Processes to exclude" and check that option if it isn't.

But even that doesn't always work.
I'm stuck again with my computer unable to shut down properly because of MassEffect3.exe and Origin.exe just hanging there refusing to be killed.

Adding to exceptions won't work anymore, it gets stuck every time.

Just great....

Thanks for the help mate. If making an exception doesn't work anymore, then just disable Avast temporarly, it works for me 100%

Yeah, but when I forget to do that, I'm stuck with my computer unable to shut down properly. Hard reseting all the time ain't that healthy.

The avast issue here seems to have cured itself. I no longer have to shut avast off while launching ME3 (even prior to the origin update).
