I've played through nightmare 3 times and I'm just wondering what prompted Bioware to make enemy spell resistance work as either fully resisted or not at all.
Player resistance works in percentage, but enemy resistance is all or nothing. I think nightmare would be more challenging if enemy resistance worked like player resistance so that spells wouldn't just hit or miss and instead do reduced dmg based on the enemy's resistance.
Immunity's are fine, but i'd prefer reduced dmg over a game of chance.
I haven't searched for mods changing this factor but if there isn't any, it'd be great if there were.

There are 2 different types of resistances. Spell resistance, which you speak of, which basically results in an all or nothing result, much like the spell resistances of good old BG games.
Then there are the elemental resistances which reduce damage from said resistances. This is the stat that most enemies lack, and I agree. In nightmare there spell resistance is increased but more often than not, their elemental resistance is the same old.
I agree that the elemental resistances should be slightly higher, but its a knife's edge between making them slightly higher and making them too high that mages become obsolete as dps.

I don't think resistances need to be any higher. I'm playing Nightmare as a solo caster mage (not arcane warrior) going pure magic and my spells still get resisted quite a lot, including elemental spells. There is nothing like trying to kill an ogre and have your spells resisted time after time. My solo mage is currently level 10.
Oh, if creatures are taking partial damage from a cone of cone or lightning bolt when they resist it the damage is not showing up. I think they resist the damage and the effect when they resist the spell.
