Pretty much, OP. The best part about the Reapers was that they had, needed, and shouldn't have had an acknowledgeable motive for coming.

That makes it too easy to kill them.  You don't think twice about blowing up some undefined by horrifically destructive force.  I think Vigil on Ilos said exactly that, even.

Honestly, the only problem with the Dark Energy is that the idiot reapers made the technology that caused Dark Energy in the first place.

They really should have picked something completely different than the dropped DE bit and Star Kid. I think Bioware just happened to write themselves into a corner and won't admit it. :P

Fan fiction from a small group of angry fans isn't needed.

There was also the problem that the reaper's solution for keeping dark energy from killing everyone, was to kill everyone.

I would have really liked it if the Crucible was just another trap planted by the reapers to distract the galaxy into diverging there resources and time elsewhere. It would have been a great twist that fit in line with the reapers previous tactics. If I knew this would be the reaper explanation I would prefer they left it a mystery or went with Dark matter plotline.
Then another method of defeating the reapers could come, In Archengias alternative ending the death of Harbinger causes the shut down of the other reapers, or something to that effect. It's not great but better than what we got with the crucible super weapon.

not everyone. leaving primitive (im assuming the dark energy plot still had reapers leaving the primitive civilizations alone) and just using the more advanced races. although the overall idea, building reaper ships is supposed to stop dark energy..how exactly? makes no sense.

people keep repeating this about the current ending too, reapers are saving organics..by wiping out organics? no..they are not wiping them out. they are harvesting them. you leave the plants that are not ripe yet alone, and harvest the ones that are ripe. to bring order to chaos. the created will always rebel against the creators, synthetics vs organics blah blah

Oh, and by the way, what ever happened to the "being of light" from that one planet in ME1? Couldn't that have gone somewhere?

I think the senless creation of massive amounts of entropy - such a wiping out an entire civilization - counteracts dark energy buildup.  Dark energy balances the laws of conservation when mass effect fields are used to seemingly violate them by reducing the entropy in the galaxy.  By creating excess entropy through senseless annhiliation of civilizations, the dark energy is no longer needed to balance the thermodynamics equations, and the threat is eliminated.  Or something.

Though this really seems like a way for the Reapers to prolong their non-dark-energy-neutral existence rather than to save anyone else.
