That's not even what anyone is saying.OneWomanArmy wrote...
So all you guys believe every character should be bi? That would be realistic?
It's entirely relative. The word 'bi' loses its meaning in this context. I would think of a decent analogy but nothing is occurring to me at the moment.

It proves that FemShep/Ashley is hot.

I think they complained about the ending for other reasons.
Like the StarKid isn't 'unrealistic' but 'stupid'.

The ending didn't follow the story line...I wanted my blue alien babies, is that real enough for you?

The game should still be realistic to some point and no Ashley should stay straight!

That's an interesting one. I assume it would be great if there were specific LIs for a certain orientation. However, games do not have an infinite budget. In that case bi would solve that issue. It's at least better than having none at all. But, as a hetero, I am no specialist.OneWomanArmy wrote...

Also, there is no realism in games. It is about creating a believable world. In RPGs we have an advantage, though. We can play, given enough options, a character in a role as we see fit. For an example: You can play a renegade character, even if you *know* there are paragon options. But I have never read about the realism of the game being damaged because paragon options exist.

Realistic is that she finds me terribly attractive and can't wait to be with me....this is REALISTIC in MY WORLD.

No, people complained that the endings didn't make any sense. Crew members teleporting from earth to the Normandy, then being caught in a random explosion and landing on a different planet somewhere unexplained does not make sense. Destroying the mass relays without the ensuing fallout described in the Arrival DLC didn't make sense. It wasn't that they were unrealistic. It was that they were incongruous with the rest of the lore.
Liberal attitudes about sexuality in the future where cross-species romance is also accepted make plenty of sense. You've seen examples of cross-species romance in plenty of situations - the asari species in general, the turian guy trying to hit on the quarian girl on Ilium, the krogan guy trying to reunite with the asari on Ilium, even Garrus and Tali potentially spending some quality time together are all just fine. If a human woman being sexually involved with a sexy-voiced giant cockroach is considered realistic, what's so unrealistic about a human woman being sexually with another human woman?

Yeah, why not. It worked out pretty well in DA2, imo. Besides, if you only romance a Female character with your Male character and vice-versa, you could just pretend they aren't bi. That's what I did with Merrill and Fenris. I had fun and no one else was affected...seems like a pretty good deal to me. :-)
OneWomanArmy wrote...

Nope, but then again, there are other things in the ME universe that could be described as unrealistic. I don't see a problem there.

Yes. Hopefuly in future games all npcs will be bi, even the ones that aren't romanceable.

Ah, yes.... "realistic"....

People complained about the endings because they sucked ass big time. They are a compendium of asspulls and nonsense. Realistic/Unrealistic is not an issue with the endings.

Of all the "unrealistic" things the games (any game) have, people seem to be really overzealous is about npcs' sexuality. Makes you wonder....

The point is we never did know that Ashley was straight. Just because we could not romance her as a female in ME1 does not automatically make her "straight". Remember we're talking a trilogy here, so if something appears one way in part one, it may very well turn out to be another in part two (or three).OneWomanArmy wrote...

As of ME3, it is safe to say that Ashley is in fact straight, because the story is essentially over and we've supposedly been given all the related facts on the universe and characters.
The same applies to Kaidan; he may have been a female-exclusive option in ME1, but things have changed since, and now we know there's more to him than just that.
It's part of character development, if anything.

So, you are willing to accept things such as hearing sound in space and fictive elements that have the ability to nullify your mass, but not that a character is bi eventhough it wasn´t explicitly stated the they weren´t from the beginning??

Now we're rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. The endings are irretrievably unrealistic. Preserving some artificial "realism" for Ashley or whoever is preposterous in the context of what the ending did to the game. What a place to take a stand for "realism".

Personally I think they should default to asexual until the PC makes a choice through dialogue options or some other mechanic.hoorayforicecream wrote...
Basically... what most of the posts I am reading are saying is that Mass Effect should not default to "heterosexual unless proven otherwise".
