I am not saying that you have to put up with it as a woman if you don't want to, I get flirted with all the time in real life and if I don't want it I just say no, but it's still more acceptable when you are a woman blame society.

And the problem is that many games choose to perpetuate these kind of problems in society, which is why I have absolutely no qualms with Kaidan hitting on male Shepard in ME3.  Shepard can politely decline Kaidan later on if they wish to.

Edit: I was wrong.

Anyways, as someone pointed out earlier, by Mass Effect time, culture could have changed so that it makes no difference.  Gay dudes might hit on straight dudes, and nobody will bat an eye (except to identify their sexuality.  Cuz Shepard will be looking at the ladies, you sissy boy).  You get the same thing from the writers of Dr Who (Davies and then Moffat) where in the future people just don't care about that stuff anymore.  See: Harkness, Jack.

I guess the idea is that to us it's a bit of a shock, because we're just not used to it.  Or I completely misrepresented OWA's point(I did, edited), and if I did I apologize.

That's precisely what I'm getting at.  We can't force our own perceptions/beliefs/moral code on characters and settings that are different from our own and ultimately not up to us to define.  For all intents and purposes, ME universe is a place where homosexuality/bisexuality/pansexuality/xenosexuality is accepted, and to assume otherwise would be breaking character (ie, metagaming).

It doesn't mean you have to RP your Shepard as gay.  It just means that he/she wouldn't be all too shocked/offended if a person of the same gender was hitting on them.

At least Shepard doesn't sound like a complete SOB when rejecting a NPC's advances and can be friendly w/o having to be in a relationship with everyone.

Point is not that Kaidan is hitting on male shep but that Kaidan is hitting on him in a "hidden" conversation, cause you expect Kaidan to be straight and when you ask him about his biotics he says "are you flirting with me?" And when the hell did male shep flirt in that convo?

Yes.  Politely declining someone's advance is the way to go.

You're assuming everyone was expecting Kaidan to be straight.  Femshep doesn't flirt in that line of dialogue, either; she says the exact same thing, iirc.

Better to be inclusive and give the option of a polite decline rather than exclude completely.   Manshep doesn't even get as much dialogue as Femshep in the Kaidan romance.  We had to wait until EC to hear them finally say that they loved each other.

But you are forgetting that most fem shep has a past with him even though some doesnt the majority does have some sort of history with him.

It's not Bioware's job to cater to the majority.  They provide options to everyone, even when the target group of a certain romance/content would be considered "the minority."  Same-sex romances definitely fall under the "minority" category.

doesn't Shepard only use the "getting better over time" line about Biotics when you brought the booze as a gift?
I thought the dialog was different, so for the game it might be:
bring gift -> player must have intentions -> Shepard is supposed to flirt -> Kaidan recognizes flirting
?

Call a spade a spade. If you're playing as GuyShep and you save Kaidan over Ash, he has every right to think you're interested.

I'll say it.

Well that's not my point.... It's the flirting thing as I said. Never mind. And before you call me a homophobic, I too have played mass effect romancing Liara and Kelly as female, I am just against the Kaidan bi thing but that doesn't mean I am against gay or bi people even though I am straight.

@criz-zone

A first time player can't possibly know that the gift is for him and means "I am interested".

I know people had a variety of reasons why they saved a particular VS.  ... But yeah, I think BW's intention there was for you to save your potential girlfriend/boyfriend, as terrible as that sounds.

Of course, you can't do that with Femshep/Ashley.

I played as femshep once.
I saved Ashley.

But only because I find Carth annoying, even 10 years later...

I'm wondering why they made kaiden bi I mean if they did that with kaiden then why was ashley excluded or not included in that change because they are alternates to each other from whoever you save from sarens forces

I'm thinking it was because they decided to count Liara as s/s, so both femshep and manshep would have equal s/s options.  If you count Diana and Kelly, technically femshep has 4 options.  Manshep only gets the 2.

Yeah on one hand it would have only been fair to make her bi as well when they did Kaidan but on the other hand fem shep has enough lesbian options.

I'm glad they didn't change Ash to bi. I don't think it fit her character anyways (I just don't, I can't quantify why in a way that will satisfy those who disagree. Just IMO). Also, I'm tired of Ash and Kaidan being treated as the same character, just with or without breasts. I'm glad that there was finally something about them that was treated a bit differently.
