Rannoch Reaper, and winning conventionally

when ever an arguement abut not being able to win conventionally, people often seem to say "Yes, we can, we killed the reaper on Rannoch".
the thing is we can't win Conventionally, no one ever said we can not kill a Reaper Conventionally. its the firepower required to kill a Reaper conventionally is substantial, and there are not enough ships in the Galaxy to put that much firepower on a fleet of them while being shot at.
So in the end, yes we can kill a single Reaper conventionally, but that does not mean we can win the war conventionally

Every character in that game told him he couldn't beat the Reapers conventionally.
Goes ahead and tries to beat the Reapers conventionally.
Cycle dies.

I agree, the Protheans lost, Shepard is a Prothean, and he is the hero of this cycle, So they can't win without some sort of superweapon or reaper off button.

Geth ships get Thanix if you talk to Allers nicely.

One day I need to make a thread explaining my theory. But on topic, you are right, writers say we can't win, so we can't win, not without the superweapon. Simple as that.arial wrote...

I only ever remember Hackett telling me the Reapers couldn't be beaten conventionally. Then again, Hackett isn't really a bright light when it comes to tactics, seeing how spectacularly he lost against the Reaper forces, compared to the turians.
In any case, conventional victory would've been possible if BioWare hadn't been married on the idea of a magical Reaper off-switch device they pulled out of their asses.

your camparison makes no sense, the Turians have the largest fleet in the galaxy (as Turian society requires people to serve). the Turian fleet is at least 4 times the size of the Alliances, and thats why the Turians held out much betterZardoc wrote...

Cain oneshot beating the reaper seems like an instance of gameplay superceeding plot. Although you could argue that Rannoch Reaper taking 4 volleys to be the same, as if the entire Quarian fleet (a bunch of which are armed with the Thanix cannons) really brought everything to bear on the reaper, there would be no boss fight and Shepard and co would be dead.DEATHSCOPE wrote...
