Did you get the patch? I found the game WAY hard until the patch which fixed some difficulty problems.

Mentioned multiple times.  OP has the patch. 

OP needs to either start a new game, find out whether there's an autosave before this encounter, or put on god mode.

Why does it matter whether it dies? I'm mostly pointing out the futility of posting here to simply complain about it. I'm here to give sound advice although im being slightly hypocritical replying to this comment.
