I'm so discouraged, I can't advance in the game on easy mode. :(

Dude I followed their advice, it's not working.  Have you ever tried kiting against shades that slow you down?  I move at like 1mph. I tried pausing and thinking. Everyway I look at it, none of my guys can hit those ****ing shades. I've gotten close sometimes but I still die.  I'm probably going to have to start over and somehow save up enough health potions for this fight. But what if I get into another fight I can't win and I don't have enough heal potions?

I really want to enjoy the story in the game but this is all too ****ing hard.

I suggest books, then. This is a game with a story built-in. Not a story with a game built-in.

I'm trying very hard not to be mean but you just aren't getting it.

There've been many helpful posts, but if they still don't help, there's only a) restart or B) cheat, then respec if necessary. This all appears more and more as if it was a bad joke from the beginning. Sorry if I'm wrong, but that's the impression I get.

This whole thread is disturbing. I read this article once on the escapist from a higher up at Bethsda that talked about the importance of making games as easy as possible. Here, found it

http://www.gamasutra...php?story=22313

Assuming this poster is not a troll, and I don't think he is, its proof the author's idea had some merit. More and more people like this poster are playing games now, and not just casual games. Whats more, they demand to be treated as thou they have been playing games all their life. I am not ok with this.

Look at this quote from Bethsda, "Your easiest setting should basically be push button, win game. You will think that it can't be made easier, that there are no wall missions. You will be wrong. Make it easier.Give them an out."

The problem is that you can't program two different games. The easiest setting is still using the same basic game mechanics.  Dumbing down games this far makes even the highest difficulty setting trivial for experienced players.

Take Fallout 3 for example, since that was a Bethsda game. Even on Very Hard, Fallout 3 is a cake walk after about the 5 hour mark. Do you remember the final boss in Fallout 3? Oh wait, there was no final boss. You just walk along side this massive nuke throwing laser shooting ultimate engine of doom as he does all the work for you. Gaxe is why there was no final boss in Fallout 3. Designers are not going to make one game with a boss on very hard and no boss on very easy. It just won't ever happen.

Dragon Age was in development for I think five years. Its Bioware's first attempt to create its own fantasy world and rule set. In less than a month people have completely figured out how to build the best characters and run through the game without any real resistance. The worst part being that the best builds don't even require any serious micro management to absolutely just tear through content. Thats sad. I expected there to be no best build, only the best build for this situation. I never imagined there would be a simple method to run nightmare without worry.

But, this thread is why. You just can't make games hard anymore. People get very upset. Its not like experienced players did not go through these problems. We just had them happen at a much younger age. I got seriously stuck in RPGs before when I was a kid all the time. I messed up characters, didn't understand party balance, and didn't know how to spot powerful and useless abilities at a glance. It just takes time. These skills absoultely transfer over from game to game.

Dragon age introduced something that is relatively new for people that have never played MMORPGS, crowd control and aggro management. I promise you, if stick with it you will "get" these concepts and be able to use them in tons of games. It just takes time and experience like everything else.

If developers cater to people who just decided to try out real games its only going to make it so experienced gamers have nothing to play. I have no idea why new gamers aren't required to go through the same basic training we all had to deal with.

I can sum up the contents of the above posted link in one simple sentence: When it comes to game difficulty, make sure that you cater to mouthbreathers.

Thank god Bioware actually made the game a tiny bit challenging. Although easy difficulty is as close to god mode as you can get.

I have a time constraint. i can't play these games as long as you guys.

Man I swear if I had a month off I could be as good at these games as you guys but I just don't have the time.  I have like a few hours every other day at the most.  A lot of the time is spent listening to all the great dialogue in the game.  But I hate wasting hours trying to figure out these impossible battles.

Limited time doesn't mean you have to be a complete idiot.  You can be limited on time and still get through a game on easy with relative ease.  You just weren't meant out to play a challenging game....even on easy mode.....  I'd just move on and find a new hobby.  Or, you could quit wasting your time on the forums and go...ya know....play the game you complain about not having enough time to play.  Keep making a fool of yourself if you want, it's always a good time to laugh at such things at work.

Whatever.  When I'm at work I don't waste time on forums. It goes to show where I spend my energy and where you spend yours.  Get my drift?

You should have put more energy in to your education.  So I guess while you're at home, you enjoy raging on forums.  Maybe that's why your time on the game is so limited, you enjoy making yourself look like an idiot while you're at home instead of playing.  Education.  Get one.

You're not at work?  You said a few hours ago you had to go to work in two hours.

I know it's frustrating but I do recommend you restart and look up some character guides at places like this: http://dragonage.gul...t.org/doku.php/ when designing your characters and party.

If you're having this much trouble now, you're going to have it much worse later on with the builds/party you are using.

Good luck.

This might sound like a stupid suggestion but check to make sure your daggers are equipped. If you accidentally switched to your second weapon set you may be attacking with your fists instead of a weapon.

You got your advice on the first page. You say you followed it but you still have these issues, which tells me you didn't follow it at all or just don't understand what they meant. The tactics suggested work for Hard and even Nightmare difficulty. Why can't you get it to work on Easy?

No my build is fine, it's the encounter that is too hard.  I'm playing on easy mode. I expect them to fix it.  Bioware has the will to make this game easier. They have proven it with their patches. But they must of forgot about this battle.

Listen I tried kiting, but I can't the shades slow me down somehow.  I've tried pausing but the issue lies in my ability to hit. For some reason these shades debuff me so badly that I can't hit them.

I've actually been able to the shades with leilana but it seems archery is so underpowered there just isn't enough damage.

I really really don't want to start over but little by little that seems to be my only option.

Well about work, no not yet, I'm thinking about taking the day off and starting over in the game.  This is like watching lord of the rings and then your dvd player breaking. It's just unacceptable.  I want to catch up and redo this fight and win it. But I don't know how to play the game differently.  I don't want to change everything completely just to win something that should of been easy in the first place.

I may not be good at the game. But I 've beaten the ogre on easy and a few other challenging fights. But this shade battle is completely unbalanced it seems.

If you are still having issues, your build and party setup are not fine. No battle on Casual should be this insanely difficult.

Restart and check out the guides I linked, or find some on your own. EA/Bioware are not going to "fix" your issue because your game is not broken.

You're telling me the game is unplayable with:

Alistair

dog
leilana

on easy mode?

Well, I can certainly disagree with your archery statement. I'm running a game on Hard with my PC as a rogue archer and I completely rape things because I went directly for Arrow of Slaying. I did a bit of research beforehand so I knew how to build a good archer. This is what I suggest you do (the research part).

But yes it looks like you have to restart. This game requires putting thought into your abilities, even on Easy mode. I hope this woke you up a bit. At least you aren't very far into the game.

Alternatively, if you don't mind using a 'cheat' mod, try getting the respec mod. It'll allow you to respec your main character so you can re-allocate your stats and skills/talents. You can technically do it for the NPCs too but that's more along the lines of cheating imo.

Statements like this are why you're getting trolled so damn hard. People beat this game on Nightmare with a SOLO CHARACTER. As in, no party members. It's hard as hell, but very possible. You can't beat one encounter on easy with a full party and you expect Bioware to solve your problems. Grow the hell up.

As I said, god mode.

A computer game battle is a bad reason to ditch work, btw.  But a good enough reason to go to bed too late and get up too early.

Agreed. Also, I still don't believe you when you say you have no autosaves you can load up.
