i have a paladin in the OC right now but i'm sick of the lawful/good attitude and want to shift to a more neutral or evil approach.  curious what decisions i'd miss out on if i created a new character in MotB instead of bringing over an existing.

also is there any way to disable alignment shifts, or alignment restrictions?  i'd still want to play a paladin if possible for the bonuses.  i realize there's a blackguard class but all the effects vs. good seems useless in the official campaigns.

You already got that question answered on the other topic. You keep what you have equipped except your weapon.

The "effects vs. good" are pretty much irrelevant. Smite Good/Evil are both equally crappy. The rest of the bonuses don't depend on alignment.

i remember there was a brief meeting with ammon jerro in motb but aside from that i don't know if the OC really made much of a difference.  that's what i'm seeking clarification on, and it's why this part of the question wasn't posted in my non-spoiler topic.

Oh, you mean story wise and all that. Don't worry about that then, it won't make a difference if you import an old character or start a new one. There's no "story import" like in Mass Effect.

If you manage to get Ammon Jerro into a fit state to talk (much later in MotB), you'll have conversation options for what you remember happening at the end of the OC. You can pretty much choose any of the options you want, regardless of what actually happened.

It's a pity there's no pantaloon-style side plot like there was in the Baldur's Gate games (where an item from the first game becomes part of the second game). The Big Metal Unit in BG2 was great fun. Plus you got to encounter Drizzt again in BG2, with his reception depending on what you did to him in BG.

Just a reminder that my MotB Makeover SoZ Edition does add more interactions with several of the OC companions, including allowing them to join your group. This can be much more satisfying than the standard AJ conversation referred to above.

yeah i checked the mod out. maybe on another playthrough, i'm always a bit leary of game-changers like that because of the personal flair it adds (i'm guessing there'll be dialogue too). thanks though, it's definitely on the list :D

Stick with original character and then replay the game again with a newly made evil one

I actually have remade my assimar/favorite soul/nwn 9/paladin per new, because in the OC i left only 10 points to agility and 12 points to intelligence - later i realized that i should have 12 in agility and 14 in intelligence even for a paladin; this way i still get the small agility benefit from full plate, which allows +1 and also can learn not only diplomacy, concentration, heal, but lore too, which will be needed in MOTB. All the powerful items from OC like Enkidu's Armor, ring of power and scarab of greater protection i left behind - did not cheat on any of the old items, because in MOTB you will get much better items than before, except armor. The armor in MOTB is pathetic, i should have cheated for Enkidu's Armor, because now the best i found for Paladin is Adamantine full plate +3...
