 Hi,

Does anyone know if the contents of a chest or the boxes around the world updates during a single act?

If I thoroughly search the entire kirkwall (day and night) as well as the outlaying areas, and I pick up everything I come across, and I visit every merchant's shop, find and read every codex entry, will they update and restock later during the same act? If I gather everything in Hightown during the night and everything in lowtown during the day, can a new crate appear in the same area after I've done some quests but before I progress to the next act? Can a new codex entry appear?

I'm primarily thinking about companion armour upgrades, gifts and unique items.

No, new items only appear in the usual parts of Kirkwall once you've finished the act.

Some merchant inventories do restock even within acts, but armor upgrades, gifts and uniques are fixed (both time and location).

As an addition to this, regarding Kirkwall specifically, there are different crates/rock piles during the day and night. You'll want to search each thoroughly. Also, I highly suggest you bring a rogue with high enough cunning to pick the level-appropriate locks during each act on every quest. There are some areas that are only accessible one time, so if you are the type who wants to be really thorough, bring a rogue (for my rogues, I aim for 22, 32, 42 cunning for each act).

I just wanna note that merchants will add new items to their inventory once you gain a level. I've used this frequently to my advantage; I'll hold off on visiting an area until I gain a level and then go to their weapon and armor shops.

Regarding locked chests... (Minor spoiler ahead)

Do they ever contain anything unique? The only time I found something other than potions or random equipment was during "a certain trip" at the end of the first act. But it was mandatory to have "a certain rouge" with you on that mission anyway. I think the item was a weapon.

I imagine there are other slightly unique weapons, but are there any gifts, companion armour, parts of special armour sets, or equivalent? Can they contain weapons or armour that has a lore to it, with a codex entry accompanying it?

Thank you for your answers.

P.S. How come you aim for 22, 32 and 42 rather than 20, 30 and 40?

Because there are chests and traps that require a higher value.

Sure, you can find gifts in treasure chests, but they don't really kick in until Act 2. (Outside of the gift you give your sibling, there are no gifts in Act 1.) There are also armor and weapons with Codexes attached.
