Seriously, is there any reason NOT to play a rogue? Yes I only discovered this on my 3rd playthru (already did warrior and mage). The Crime Wave quests alone are worth it. But you get many more killing blows and animations. Lots of heads get chopped off. I'm at 50% damage done, so I question those who say you need mages (for dps). Rogues are lots of fun in this game. Much more so than previous bioware games. Kudos to BW for making rogues the best class.

I agree that there seems little point in taking a warrior over a rogue (unless you specifically want to go two-handers or sword&shield). Rogues are just much more flexible in their abilities.
But playing a mage is also great fun. Try a fire mage, great stuff. But generally you would want to play a mage for crowd control rather than dps.

I don't like mages so much. I haven't played one yet to be honest so I may change my mind when I do but rogues really have some potential for very diverse techniques and that means many different strategies to get through fights. I like that.

I agree, I am playing a rogue now and I am having a great time, my rogue is a little monster.
Some of the moves are brilliant, head chopping and all the rest.
So far my favorite character is the rogue and mage second.

I use a primal mage, he does 60-70% of the groups damage, its ridiculous fun, paired with spell might and blood mage: blood wound he just makes everything oh so cheery. My rogue was quite enjoyable though. I hate killing blows though, they take your character out of the action and sometimes taking damage for a few seconds.

The added utility with chest lockpicking and scouting with Stealth and setting up an early mage kill from Stealth all point strongly in favor of rogue over DW Warrior, for sure. Although you can perform any of these roles with a party character (after some time of building them up right), it's much more fun to do it all from the start with your main player character. IMO, anyway. I agree with the poster above who said the only reason to go with Warrior for your main player character is if you want to sword and board or use a 2-Hander.

This seemed to be my ONLY complaint as playing my first character a Dwarf Noble Rogue. I would get a killing blow animation on some mob not too important, while an emissary is needing to be stunned or beaten down.

Sword and Shield warrior can be made very effective witht he tactics commands. You cannot do this with the rogue as well because of positioning. Also scouting, laying traps, using poisons all require you to control the character doing that stuff so might as well be your main. I don't like controlling the other characters at all. I have gotten some good tactics down so I don't have to.
I have finished the game with 3 rogues, 2 mages, 1 warrior.

Well I do agree, rogues have a lot of fun, but their party options are more limited I think. A heavy damage backstab rogue is going to need a dedicated tank with high threat to keep foes focused on something else long enough to stab them to death. A dedicated tank means, espeically in the longer, harder fights like high dragon, you'll need a healer too. That pretty much forces wyane and alister or shale for most of the game as party members. At least this has been my experience on nightmare.

although that has me thinking, other classes should have class specific quests, not just rogues. And I'd like to see crime wave made longer.
I guess what I'm thinking is something like the stronghold quests in BG2. I think class quests are a unique way to add replayability. Hell, even Wow's class quests are kind of fun (well they were before they decided to nerf everything so a 5 year old could play- how they've ruined that game, but I digress).
I'd like to see mage do some quests for the circle (assuming you saved them) and warrior could do some quests to help rebuild Redcliff maybe.

I'll admit, I never liked the Rogue class in any of the RPG's I've played so far. But I have a really good feel about the rogue in DAO and a friend of mine who plays as a rogue really loves it too. I'll be sure to have a playthrough with the rogue. Definitely sounds interesting.

Oh man. The stabbity, the stealth, the stealing, the traps, the poison - its so fun!
Momentum makes your rogue look extra-awesome as she's killin' stuff. The crime wave quests are a blast.
As far as party options go - you only need 1 tank with taunt and you have like 4 to choose from. More likely than not, you'd have a warrior in your party because they are all great characters. Paralyze runes in your daggers also solves part of that problem as well. I bring a healer with anyways. Its just good to have a healer! Even playing my mage, I drag a healer along.

I've always found Rogues to be the most rewarding gameplay-wise.
Warriors tend to be too simplistic while mages tend to be overpowered.

I honestly prefer both Warrior and Rogue equally so far. My first character was a two-hand Warrior, and while he wasn't the easiest character to play in the beginning there's something to be said about being surrounded by enemies and simply swatting them away with ease.
Right now I'm playing a DW Rogue Duelist, and I am enjoying the hell out of it so far. I don't stealth very often, but I do steal from everyone I can.. great, great fun.

If you haven't tried a 2H warrior, they are a blast. Just an FYI.

I first played as a warrior, which is typically the class I choose. I'm not a fan of playing as a mage and, before DA:O, I loathed rogues. The rogues in the other games I played spent more of their time splattered on the floor than fighting enemies.
I wanted to play as a rogue the second time around so that I wouldn't have to always take Leliana and could try out some of the other party members that I'd neglected. I *love* playing a rogue in this game. My rogue is so much fun and is actually formidable. I especially love to engineer it so that she's surrounded by a mob, and then use Whirlwind to slash them all.
I also really love the crime wave quests. They are a lot of fun!

I love playing my DW rogue. I was going to play a mage next but I think i will just play another rogue. I got a taste playing a mage with Morrigan as a damage dealer and Wynne as a healer and I definitely have more fun with the rogue... I think partially because the rouge involves a lot of micro-managing and is so flexible (can scout ahead alone with stealth, always eyeing combat with positioning in mind for backstabs, etc). They can't just stand around in combat because they are not as strong as a warrior so they have to always keep an eye out on positiong, avoiding melee, yet be in the think of battle. I also love to tell the rest of the party to stay put and then go for solo assassination missions up ahead to thin the crowd out a bit.

the love they showed for rogues really salvaged this game for me. i'm trying an archer now and boy does it suck trying to solo the mage tower

Rogues are kind of a all rounder class because they can pick locks, stun, distract enemies, poison, make boss fights easier by assassination, and disappear meaning less deaths for you. I also like the fact you can check areas out before you send your group in. Also they can use swords axes and daggers effectively.

Rogues are indeed awesome. I absolutely love my cunning based dagger/dagger rogue. Only problem is that a proper made rogue is almost to powerful in terms of single target damage
So looking forward to AI/Difficulty mod or maybe a proving mod so I can always get more encounters for my rogue

I do actually prefer my DW rogue to my mage. As a mage I was simply firing spells left and right which was visually pleasing, although I was more or less away from the heat of battle and I had to rely on Leliana a lot of picking locks and disarming traps. I have more fun stealthing, backstabbing, setting traps, dancing round enemies and pulling off finishers.
I've yet to play a warrior, but when I do it will be 2H; I've used Alistair enough to experience tanking with a sword and shield, and I haven't really used Sten much.

I found rogue as the most fun as well. But I do enjoy the Mage and warrior as well. Each has a diffrent feel in combat.
But then I do not like to mico-manage my party ethier so I learn each of those classes when I play them.

my 1/2 dex 1/2 cunning rouge is my favorite char out of the bunch I have. very good damage with daggers and decent enough at bow to be a threat to mages. also the endgame is really really easy with a rapid aim bow

This is my first play through with a Rogue (avatar). I love this char. I've seen her take down two opponents at once with her daggers swinging in opposite directions. Very cool indeed. I like the way the little muchkin leads a pack of much larger party members, but is just as capable, if not more so, than her larger companions. I have her on point, of course, for trap detection and to take the brunt of the first attack. She's a fierce little scrapper.
