Some people just don't like to be told they're wrong. I don't mind myself, and if someone offers to help me out, I'm happy for it, but different people and all that.
The only way i could see someone getting mad at anyone for giving a bit of advice is when, after they tell you once, if you don't listen they keep bringing it up. It really doesn't take long at all for people to stop coming off as friendly and start being just aggravating.
Not saying you do that mind you. But I have seen some people who just won't stop even when it's obvious that the person really doesn't care. It could be that they get that sort of thing a lot in matches, and even if you just bring it up once in a lobby, it kinda triggers a "great, here we go again" thing for them and they jump down your throat.
Only one thing to do when friendly advice is ignored or even raged upon - Say "So be it!" and kill all the things...
I don't even bother mentioning ULM in randoms any more. My favorite is seeing someone packing, for example, a Claymore and a Carnifex, with a Sniper Rifle Amp equipped...
