I've ran into a strange bug that I don't think I've seen before. I'm playing a module and my party gained a level. I leveled up my PC normally, but as the title says, I can't do the same with companions.

I can go through the leveling up screens with them, select skills, feats, etc, but when I finish and "accept", they remain at the previous level, as if nothing had happened. They still have the "+" symbol on their portraits, and I can click on "level up" again, but no change, as if cancelled instead of accepting (which of course I didn't do).

I tried emptying my override folder and loading a previous save before gaining the level. I went through it all again, but no change, the bug persists.

Any idea?

Try renaming your MyDocs->NwN2 folder and let the game create a whole new one

... there might be some .Xml files lurking down in the MyDocs->NwN2->UI folder that can affect levelling

That worked, but I've been testing a bit by moving back some folders, and the problem seems to be neither in the override, nor in the UI folders.

The module is MoW, it seems its campaign folder has an UI subfolder with some .xml file...

Edit: To add some more bizarreness, the cleric companion doesn't have Mass Aid in her spellbook. *Shrugs*

Edit 2: Also, I've noticed that some of the voice sets are not available in MoW at character creation. I wonder if that's normal or if there's something wrong with my install. It all seems too weird, and I don't think I ran into any of these issues the other times I played MoW.

Well, it definitely seems that my game, or at least MoW, has gone crazy. I figured I'd create a new character and start from scratch to see if I'd run into the same bugs.

Made a sorcerer/arcane scholar, and I can't choose the appropiate spellcasting progression feat when taking the PrC. I exported the character to a different module and leveled up there, I could take the feat normally then.

The issue I mentioned with the voice sets seems to only happen with MoW as well. So, what the hell is wrong with MoW?

Reinstalled the game, reinstalled MoW, all clean without any custom add-on... no change.

I've tried other classes and it seems like some content (feats, spells...) from the expansions is missing, as if the game didn't notice that I have them installed. I still can choose classes from the expansions, but there are related bugs as the one I described with ASoCk in the previous post (not advancing spellcasting at all, I even tried exporting, leveling in another module and re-importing... didn't work).

That doesn't explain the initial problem with companions not leveling, though...

Are all the games installed as the same User?

Way back when I first got this computer, simply installing the NWN2 stuff didn't work out (files I saved with the toolset weren't accessible). I had to reinstall everything - and I still run everything - as Administrator.

I've checked Ossian's forums (this topic concretely) and I think I've found a fix. It looks like there's a bug where MoW doesn't recognize the expansions if you have the Steam version of the game. If anyone runs into this problem, you need to download some 2da files from here (bottom of the page, "free downloads" section).

I swear I played MoW on a Steam version before and I don't remember installing those files, but maybe I just forgot about them... Anyway, I hope it all works now, companion leveling included. I'll return if otherwise.

Edit: Just saw I_Raps' post. I think those files were the source of the problem, since it looked MoW-specific. I'll test it out a bit and see how it goes.

Confirmed, I was able to level up companions now, the cleric has Mass Aid on her spellbook... everything seems to be working ok after replacing those files.
