Uhh... the challenge was for Reapers.mechalynx wrote...
Found an excellent group on first try. First time I played Gold too and we got UUG with full extraction on that mother****ing Thessia map with Phantoms EVERYWHERE!
To my awesome teammates - thank you!
I do not posess a high enough balls quota to try a Banshee on Gold. Farmed reapers on Bronze/Silver to get my muppets to lvl 20. I only wanted to try Gold once, since I never played it before.
But yea, sucks that I didn't try a Reaper run.
Ah (see my post above about your Gold Run*) - good to see that you farmed Bronze and Silver. I've done the same - got the pesky Gold out of the way - the strange thing is that I've been crap on silver all day :-(
* Gold Run, Blockbusters - UK TV viewers from the '80 will know what I'm waffling about!

This mission was a lot of fun for me. Grouped up all weekend with randoms and found myself as equal parts teacher and student. My AJA was a dominating force when paired with AAs and PAs. out of 10 Gold runs vs Reapers I only came up short 2 or 3 times.
I had to show a few new players the ropes about biotics and the power of the AJA warp-bubble and the amazing phoenix spam-able lash.
I learned from some N7 1000+ players some great weapon combos and how to use the FQI for Gold. (It changed my life.) Never would have thought the sabotage could be so devastating. (I won't bore with details unless asked.)
All in all, I love gold challenge weekends. It forces bronze and silver players to leave their comfort zone and really challenge themselves. A lot of players are way better then they give themselves credit for. AND a lot of players find that their set up they have been using to crush bronze is worthless on Gold. (you know who you are nova-guards/Krogan sentinels).
Great weekend and look forward to DLC. 2 mil ready to pull in all kinds of Ammo IV ..LOL
Im intrigued by this devastating use of sabotage - please do tell.
I'm sure to a lot of players it is common knowlege but for me It opened my eyes to a new playstyle that really resurrected my lost love for the Inf.
Sab is actually a great tool vs reapers. Cannibals and Marauders are nonstop gunfire enemies that normally spawn together and stay close to each other for a good period of time. Sab set for backfire can put these troops down fast and in bulk. I have been using Sab mostly vs Geth to take over a pyro or rocket trooper. I was also having great success with tech groups since they can benefit from the +50% tech damage that Sab gives at level 6. I set my cloak for "use one power while cloaked", I can sab a Brute, while being cloaked, throw a sticky while cloaked and drop about 3500 damage per sticky. If you skip the sniper idea and go with a hurricane or reegar, you become a close quarters domination machine. This does come at the price of being a bit squishy though.
There is the boring, "I'm sure everybody except me knew this already", game changing FQI setup I learned about.

First Gold random squad was all asari adepts and no issues. later with a mixed squad i tried krogaurd and barely squeeked by. I did get to melee a banshee to death after she grabbed me!
big fun, thanks to everyone

So the guy bleating into my mic the other day that "You do realize that sabotage does absolutely nothing to reapers!" was giving me erroneous information?
Yes he was wrong. QFI sabotage can cause weapon backfire damage if that power evolution is chosen. And as previously mentioned can buff tech damage powers by 50% if associated Evolution is taken.

Maybe because they don't want to draw every single enemy to the same spot on the map, and have the whole group overrun, and die in the same heap.
Gold doesn't work that way. Unless the intention is to draw agro away from the team. But to do that you have to be doing a good ammount of killing.
Gold tends to work smoothly when everyone works as a team. Concentrating fire, quickly reviving team mates, staggering banshees to disrupt sync kills, etc.
That doesn't mean you have to stay in one place the entire match. Gold is just infinitely easier if you stay together, even if roaming the map is your thing. Just stay together.
Then when it comes time to do the 4 part hack objective or the pizza delivery run, the team can keep fire off the player completing the objective. That can mean soaking up agro at the spot or keeping agro in another part of the map away from the objective.
Bronze and silver can work the same way. But, it's easy to go lone wolf on those levels so teamplay isn't something learned there very often.

This is a valid point, magnet hands game ruining mechanic needs to be adjusted so that this frustrating situation dissapears! Personally if i see more than one banshee i reach for the cobra....

Didn't happen to me once. Sure, a few people got grabbed, but not one during extraction (only got 3 partials due to various player errors).TheWout wrote...

Well, I know it is after the fact, but I finally got a Bioware dev to confirm what the official end time of this event was... Derek Hollan PM'd me back saying:
Hi DR,
The official time is the blog time. 10AM PST, Friday to 4AM PST Monday.
Cheers
So, Chris mis-typed on the first post of this thread -- the Bioware blog time was the correct time, so everything we did after 10am PST yesterday DID count towards the weekend operation.
So glad my friends and I kept at the community goal yesterday afternoon/evening (just in case the blog was the right time).
EDIT: Also, for those asking in this thread -- we will probably hear if we succeeded in the community goal or not either today or tomorrow. Commendation packs (and if community goal was met, victory packs) usually start going out Tuesday night, so be patient. If you don't have yours by Thursday, then is the time to contact EA support.

It's weird, on a good host I can be about 5 feet away and feel safe (relatively), and then I get some foreign host and I get sucked in from like 15 feet away, it's rediculous.Chivers7 wrote...

But yeah, got at least the squad goal, can't wait to see if we pulled off the allied (not that I need another med gel particularly).
