Alternate option: give victory packs to players who got an extraction on reapers.
1. Lamers who did nothing/n00bed it up get nothing.
2. Fans get rewarded.
Here Here, I did squad goal and did multiple silver and bronze to help out

Makes me a lot less motivated to participate in challenges before a DLC release. I don't like the coincidences that are occurring with that...

There is an old human expression: “You reap what you sow.” The word “reap” has been co-opted by our enemy, but this does not make the expression any less true. We have spent much time in recent weeks planting seeds. We recruited, we trained, we defended, all in the hopes that, sometime soon, we would have enough breathing room to mobilize against the enemy on a grand scale. Over the past few days, we did just that.
Operation BROADSIDE attacked Reapers all over the galaxy, and we made them take notice. They expected to fight asari on Thessia, turians on Palaven, batarians on Khar’shan, but what they got was turian bombardments covering vorcha troops using human tactics in asari streets. It was perhaps due to this complexity that BROADSIDE did not go as planned. We sought a way to defeat a numerically superior ground force with little loss of life, but there was no sure strategy to adopt. When we innovate, our enemy adapts. Yes, we’ve seen losses, but a war worth fighting does not come without a cost.
Take inspiration in that. I know it is discouraging to fight for alien real estate when we have not yet taken the battle to your own homeworld. Operational secrecy prevents me from saying exactly when we will deploy and in what strength. All I can say to those who are waiting is one word:
Soon.

Just make sure you spell out the exact terms of the engagement ( ie, FULL extraction on any difficulty VS Reapers any map ) next time, don't keep it a secret

well there went all the work me and my friends did on all those full runs we did all weekend *facepalm*
Kinda makes you wonder if its worth wasting time for events people are not going to help with...

although it says 400000 extractions any difficulty.
So maybe more people were going on Gold, when they should've been using Bronze/Silver.
or
More people wanted to get both squad and ally goals dealt with by simply doing a single Gold instead.

It was a pretty ambiguous goal. People didn't realise it was full extraction.BHZer0 wrote...

My friends and I took it as even if only one extracted then it would have counted, even tho almost everyone was a full for us. Hell to hopelly bump the total up we did a lot of just bronze extractions too.... its just a let down when this happens after putting out your best and the combined "lack of wording it Fully correctly" and people just being lazy makes it hard to really want to put out my best when some few dont want to....

I have to say though, the goal of these is often times not 100% clear. Going forward, I would very much like a cut and dried explanation of exactly what must be done in order to actually achieve the goal, because "Extract 400,000 squads against Reapers on ANY difficulty" is NOT clear. You may think it's clear that the above line means full extraction, but it does not specifically say "Full Extraction" so many people might not be trying for it.
The line should have said "Achieve 400,000 full extractions against Reapers on ANY map and difficulty," which makes it 100% clear what must be done and leaves no ambiguity. You have terms for different types of extractions. Use them so we know what you mean. I always try to full extract in every game, but I know others don't care, especially when playing level 20 characters.

"Full extraction"?
This was in the announcement: Squad Goal: Extract at least one squad member against Reapers on Gold difficulty

The Allied goal required full extraction, but it's not specified on the description.

At least this time it's not eye-bleed red. Though I don't think Admiral Hackett would type an evil smilie. Just doesn't seem to be his style.
So... any word on how epically we failed?

Will those of us who completed the squad goal be receiving our commendation packs. We(those of us who completed the squad goal) got them from Operation Silencer even though that was a failure too so I'm hoping it will be the same for Broadside as well..

The announcement said "extract 400,000 squads". If 1 or 2 soldiers in a squad die, the surviving soldiers are still a squad, right? I think we must have met this goal, per the terms of the original OP.
Given that they took down the failure message once to ponder over how this event should end,I think they have already made up their mind about this. They are sticking to their guns that only full extracts should count.
