Have you seen the new maps yet? Not impressive at all. Wouldn't mind fight on Citadel in the off limits areas or Mars and even Ilos or Eden Prime.

So, what's our punishment? Don't we deserve a punishment?

How about mixing up all enemies? While sloppily executing this operation other fronts were neglected and now they're pouring in from all sides. We botched this so hard, we can only try to kick the mixed enemies from bronze to gold challenges, but as a result we'll always have the platinum one, where they still mix up.

What do you expect, your store has never given me a decent character to even survive a gold difficulty, let alone extract.

No. If they're going to punish us, it needs to be something no one will enjoy. Like -15% experience gain. We've already got self-centered elitists hoping for a failure so they can get some silly twist for a few days instead of the entire community getting a minor but useful boost forever. Do you think none of them intentionally sabotaged matches they were in by not extracting? If you do, I've got a bridge to sell you. Punishment should be punishment for everyone, not punishment for 99% and a reward for bored hardcores.

And leave the fun of being punished only to him / her? No way! Descriptions haven't been a strength of ME3 and MP left me often clueless about the skill descriptions.
I just want some change, the Banshee spawning in all factions was fun, although I had my fill of the screaming quite soon.

 It failed because it was a poorly chosen event by BioWare.

I hope BioWare never does another weekend where the squad goal is a match on Gold and only Gold; It completely alienates a large chunk of the community and forces people who are either not good enough or not geared enough (via unlocks) to have a chance of success for the packs. (Which causes a lot of frustration for other players)

What happens is, you get a bunch of players playing above their difficulty for hours trying to get the squad goal and as a result are not getting extractions on their normal difficulty which count towards the allied goal. And if they even manage to get the Gold extraction, that is mission after mission lost that could have gone to the allied goal. The point of these events is to attract and involve the community not just the better percentage of players. 

In future there should never be an extraction goal above Silver (unless there is a secondary option); which is a difficulty that the vast majority of the community can play and have fun in. 

Now I'm sure someone will argue "Well, its a 'Commendation' pack it shouldn't be so easy." I can understand that argument. Let me offer you an alternative then: One extraction on Gold or four extractions on Silver. Full extraction on silver, one extracted at least on Gold. Etc. It doesn't need to be made easy, it should however, be made accessible.

And before anyone asks, I will be getting my Commendation pack and I predominantly play on Gold.

I do like the idea of having to extract MORE on lower difficulties. Having multiple ways to get the pack seems like a good idea.

I just think it's stupid that so far we have no way of monitoring our progress towards these goals as we complete them.

Making the penalty something the hardcore players enjoy is giving them incentive to fail.  There should never be incentive to fail.

One common misconception around here seems to be the belief that it had already happened once, that we had failed an operation right before a DLC became available. That's not the case, actually. The Rebellion DLC arrived only then, on May 29.

Seems like this is really the first time when an operation failed right before the release of a new content. And so, I'm afraid that there isn't any clear pattern to observe at this point. I know, it's probably just Bioware covering their tracks well. <_< But history is not repeating itself, at least not yet. Maybe we'll need to wait for another DLC to see it happen. 

In the meantime, I'll just agree with the others who have been saying that the lack of accurate information on the goals (full extraction) and the extended timeframe not being communicated clearly enough left a bitter taste. 
I can believe that we've genuinely failed the operation, but the horrible communication on the part of the developers (and maybe setting a goal that was too ambitious?) certainly hasn't helped things. 


I respectfully disagree. Operation Silencer DID set up the Rebellion DLC because Hackett's post-failure speech flat-out says they will be sending us reinforcements in light of the failed operation.

And then, as your timeline showed, we got Rebellion not too terribly long after that.

Now, this operation fails, and Hackett's little speech talks about it being hard to fight for alien homeworlds while Earth is burning and talks about taking the fight there. Soon. And then Earth DLC drops on the same day.

Call me a conspiracy theorist. I didn't put the tinfoil hat on after Silencer failed, but this one leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. I like that we're getting free DLC... can't complain about that... but I don't enjoy feeling like we're being purposely set up for failure because the "story says so".

At least you saw the idea and even liked it.

It sucks that these weekend squad based objectives are mainly aimed at elite third person shooter players instead of everyone no matter their skill level.

It seems fitting that there should be multiple ways now that I think about it, really. I don't know if anyone here plays Kingdom Hearts, but there is always a secret video to unlock at the end. If you play on the higher difficulties you can unlock it without trouble, but if you play on a lower difficulty it makes you jump through a lot more hoops. Same principle as it would be here... I feel a bit like a burden when I do these challenges... I completed the Squad goal this week, but I am a primarily Silver player and I haven't even made a dent in my Uncommon unlocks. I think I'm a good player... but I'm don't have the right equipment to really be effective at these challenges, either.

...with an eager little Eagle wanting to burst out from it to help your immense frontline efforts...

...with its nigh unlimited BB munition supply.

i think the real failure here comes from the past, they did not consult their past results. with the operation silencer. 3 mill banshees. take a gues how many extractions that equals even on bronze. and we did not get it, they set the bar too high, intentionally.
