And? The Catalyst is an AI with a certain set of programming. Arguing in circles won't change his mind. You can't do it in the EC, it ALWAYS boils down to "Pick an option or the Cycle continues"

There's NO reason for it to change or have a different outcome because of a Rogue Reaper.

I can easily see Shepard bringing up Leviathan and the Catalyst basically going "Oh yeah, that guy." and just shrugging again.

Again, you're NOT going to be able to shout the Catalyst down.

You just described why the ending failed in storytelling. A brand new character, who's obviously the biggest villain, is introduced to us in the last 10 minutes in which we are force to choose his options, or die. We cannot argue with him either.

I would like the Leviathan to fight with Harby at the end of the game, you know like scene after harby leaves you alone, and he's off to fight the Leviathan.

Thinking about how much stuff concerning the established lore already lies under that carpet it is getting hard to walk straight in Bioware's living room I guess...

There is so much under it, I expect it's impossible to even get in the door.

Uh, the Catalyst is a proxy, nothing more.

Why is this so difficult to understand?

Well, then you have your answer as to why many of us won't be purchasing.

I don't get it either.  Without him, you wouldn't know what the options do.  Imagine the same ending scene (Because that's what we'd get) only without the Catalyst.  Just the three walkways.

...Yeah, I think that's pretty dumb too.

The Catalyst is an exposition machine designed to tell us what we can do.  It's like Joker in ME1 and TIM in ME2

Then why did it have to be "The Controller of the Reapers" instead of just a Crucible VI?

Because the Reapers HAD to come from somewhere.

They're machines, someone had to build them. Ending the series with them being nebulous, nigh invincible boogeymen would been god-awful.

Nobody asked where they came from. We all know they came from the Leviathans.

Pretty sure I told the Catalyst what I thought of him.

I have no idea what game you guys were playing.

You DIDN'T notice him getting pissy?

It's also terrible writing to write nebulous invincible boogeymen whose sole reason to exist in a setting grounded in at least some form of reality is JUST to be evil.  That works in high fantasy like Warcraft, but not in sci-fi.

It's just a proxy according to you, how could it get pissy if that's the case?

I find it much worse to badly reveal their origins than to not reveal them at all.

Where did I say that? You're making up questions and situations in your head, then posting the "answer" here. Nobody asked where the Reapers came from. Nobody said they should be invincible.

And you didn't answer the question.

Just because he's a proxy doesn't mean he doesn't have an opinion on the matter. He relays all of the options because he is a proxy.

But that doesn't mean he doesn't have an opinion.

He IS a machine after all.

Listening to a few recent voice work by Anthony Skordi, i can see the voice working for an ancinet reaper machine.

Heres a sample for 2011 of his work on dungeion siege 3, might be similar to what well see in leviathan.

A proxy simply relays data, it doesn't have an opinion. If it does, it's not a proxy

And now that you acknowledge that it does have one, why shouldn't it be an option to expose it for the idiot it is?

Hey, at least we'll get to dominate, subvert or destroy our latest war asset come the end of the game eh?

Who's writing this anyhow?

Being able to think critically does that. He doesn't make sense, that's the point.

Shooting the pipe is the biggest **** you of all time. You can rebuild EDI and the Geth.

Not Walters anyway, but the damage has already been done.

Yeah, I look forward to blowing my new Reaper friend to hell, all in the name of artistic integrity. Oh wait, I'm probably not buying it, phew dodged that one!
