Lies, damn lies, and statistics!

We all know they wear powered latex swimsuit armor!

Ah.. I mean.. They don't exist! And they're not in my closet!

And No, you can't look!

I must be honest tho - your dictatorous (such a word?) approach to the lore is pretty disconcerting. I have never seen a company in all my many gaming years take such an approach on the lore "This is the game lore and this is how it will be because I said so". Rather bad way to develope lore with the community who love the game tbh.

But I am gonna sign out ofthis thread, and feel like I will just end up going in a loop with my argument. :)

Anyway, you want this armor back, you're going to have to strip me.
Piece, by loving piece.

Seriously though, whether or not to take a dev's information into account with your character is up to the player. This isn't something that's explicitly stated in game so I think players thinking whatever they want isn't necessarily a bad thing >.> if I never read the forums I wouldn't have known. Ignorance is bliss, isn't it?

And like I said, if you really prefer to think otherwise, then do so. The lore that exists outside the game is pretty much outside the game -- someone wringing their hands and taking it as a personal condemnation because their in-game avatar might be in an infertile relationship and that this is insufficient fantasy fulfillment seems a bit melodramatic to me. Considering all the other sacrifices you make to get where you are, is it so startling to discover that a consequence-free HEA might not be in the cards?

My comment was more toward this topic in general, since it seems like a lot of people are taking it really seriously. I suppose you can call it melodramatic, but getting really into the game was probably partially Bioware's goal in creating DA, right? ^^ I don't think people were looking for a consequence-free ending (considering that they had to have their hubby sleep with Morrigan to get to this ending in the first place), just that having a possibility of having kids was, I don't know, comforting? Or more open-ended than this thread has proved it to be, anyway? I wouldn't call DA 'insufficient fantasy fulfillment' at all and I kind of doubt many others here would.

For the players of the game, the actual work is what's important; like any piece of art, the interpretation is up to the audience. Choosing to take outside lore such as information on the forums or even what's in the books is up to you as well; some will appreciate being told this and others.. will not. (Because it crushes their dreams! Bad David!) Some people seem to be getting offended at the fact that some people may wish to disregard what has been said in this thread regarding absolute infertility, but I don't think that's meant as an insult to David Gaider or the other creators of DA, only that DA has pretty much taken on a life of its own.

The epilogue does leave things open to the imagination. Some people want to picture rainbow-farting unicorns at the end ;) it's not such a bad thing, is it?

I think you mean dictatorial.

And if there's a compelling IP out there that approaches its lore democratically or by committee, I've yet to see it.

I'm not suggesting anyone find this result completely happy-making. We weren't going for blissful satisfaction, here. But this is how it is. And I'm beginning to think I just shouldn't have said anything at all, to be honest.

OH GOD NO.

I love threads where one of you guys comes in and gives up a little lore goodness. Please don't be deterred by fan tears.

Uh what? I've never heard of an author that created a fictional world based on fan input, perhaps you could share your knowledge?

I really don't know why this is causing such an uproar. Plenty of people can't conceive. I know a couple of kind, sweet people who can't conceive together, so they adopted two beautiful babies. I know a gay couple who not only can't conceive (obviously) but can't even adopt because their government says their relationship isn't good enough. Not to get political in here or anything, but why everyone is blowing a gasket over a pretend couple's pretend infertility is mystifying.

Warhammer 40k
Although it's more like 'Do whatever you want cause space is so damn huge' than a democratic vote though.

-edit- Although granted a lot of things are pretty much set in stone now.

And would you want to be the one to tell someone they can't have Angry Marines?  They can fit those yellow painted minis anywhere!

I have got to find out more about this game. I've never played it. Sounds like it might be right up my alley!

Now we need Angry Grey Wardens.

It's a tabletop wargame, though, so it's not really a pick up and play sort of game, although Dawn of War is an excellent introduction to the overall feel and lore of the game.
Although it's lore tends to be a little stupid and not entire authentic but it gets the feel through.

Nah man, you just need to mod Shale to be yellow.
And voiceover her lines so that her battle cry will be 'FFFFFUUUUUUUU----"

Can't do that, Shale's DLC.  Don't want DLC dependencies.

Ah well. The Legion of the Dead with yellow armor will be awesome enough though.

Not to interject too strenuously, as it's mostly amusing, but could chit-chat about Warhammer 40K maybe be taken to PM? Or Off Topic?

It's ok. I'll convice some guy to play it with me. I'm pretty persuasive. ^_^ I think I'll get around the lore though. Blizzard did enough lore breaking to last me a lifetime.

I just clearly see that with the prospect of total infertility my PC would not choose this ending but rather go for the two Grey Wardens on the road thing. That's happy enough, heirs don't matter and it won't leave the reunited Ferelden at the brink of civil war again in 30 years. That was my only concern. Now since she doesn't know maybe I, as the PCs Maker in charge, will give her a strong female intuition that the whole king thing is a stupid idea (as well as telling him everyone's out for themselves). ;-) So fixed for me!

And to Mr. Gaider. I really appreciate your input. I was just a little - um - surprised that ingame it was left at my interpretation of how unlikely "next to impossible" may be. I was assuming that you wouldn't put things as lore as long as they don't have to be for further storytelling. Well, I was wrong then and that's not exactly a problem. It was still fun to discuss. :)

What i dont understand is why Darkspawn corruption results in such uber-high fertility Broodmothers but infertility in Grey Wardens.

P.S. I will accept "because i said so" David (it's your story and ive already voted on how i feel about it with my wallet) but i do expect more.
