What's the incentive to buy the DLC, when we know the game ends the way it does?

I agree, no point knowing it won't really matter

I don't know. Maybe they're gonna add Sgt. Gardner's Calamari Gumbo recipe.

It's just silly. "Buy this DLC, that won't make a damn difference."

Because it's something fun.

Again, NONE of the previous DLC did anything significant besides cameos and war assets. There was also NOTHING that said LotSB or Arrival or Overlord would impact the ending or do anything in ME3, but you bought those anyway too.

Devil's Advocate: It seems with the EC that a fair number of people find the SP game tolerable -- even the endings. IF this is true then I could understand buying DLC for pre-ending stuff.

For me though there's not much that they could do to interest me short of 100% confirming IT and then giving us the "real" ending .... That or just throw out their endings and give me some endings that seem to fit with prior established themes, events, etc. [Narrative cohesion??]

Yeah but if LotSB always ended up with Liara being killed at the hands of the Shadowbroker then I wouldn't have enjoyed it.

You are making a nice straw man argument.

1. More mass effect.
2. More backstory on reapers.
3. More time with the characters.
4. More interesting plotlines

Just think that even though the game ends the way it does what you do during the game would likely effect the future of the universe. There is no Rachni slide in the EC ( I think) yet you know by saving the Rachni they will most likely help out galactic civilization.

Well, all DLCs will probably add more lines for Star-Jar, ultimately giving him more dialog than any character in the game. You'll still have to choose between the 3 4 flavors of suicide and watch nothing you did besides giving in to your anger make a lick of difference in the story.

Speaking of anger, why the hell did they make shooting the catalyst, the only measure of catharsis we get, into essentially a game over? Freaking ay, man.

Well it's all pointless.

It's like reading a plot synopsis of a film and then trying to watch it. It's not as fun when you know all the characters just die at the end.

(also, this is for some reason irritating me, the quote in your sig wasn't made by justafan - it's a well known phrase. look it up)

Yeah, more Mass Effect, the reason for one person to buy more DLC is the reason not to buy DLC for another person

I guess if you like or tolerate the way the story ends DLC are okay, but for me and at least a handful of others the destination matters as much as the journey, and the destiantion truly and massively sucks for me, especially if you can't bear the violation of Shepard's entire character for the sake of forcing those decisions into the ending...

Except, ME2 had a better, more satisfying ending.  If ME3's DLC can't further improve on its ending, what's the point?

None, whatsoever.

i got mass effect 2 after all the dlc came out and it definitely colored the game differently for me. It made the universe feel richer and the gameplay more diverse.

So if dlc can do this for ME3 then I'm all for it. I don't care that the ending is somewhat lackluster compared to earlier games.

More lore, more gameplay, more time with my squads = Buy

For the same reason you got Arrival, Overlord, LotSB, Price of Revenge, and Stolen Memories.

Heck. Yes. Do want.

Anyway, to OP: For the epic bonding/bro-time. Unless you're one of those people who didn't do that with any of your squadmates.

draco i hate the endings as much as you do but f*ck it, why let that get in the way of some good backstory, there's no point in dragging out the hate over ten minutes of crap when the rest of the game is still pretty good, even if the other 2 are better in my eyes.

The thing about ME 2 was that it ended on a great note, Shepard kicking Reaper ass after doing the awesome suicide mission and finally doing his walk of awesomess and have his crew nod at him, like he's the ****.

So you're left more hungry for more, since it ends on such an awesome note. That's why I bought the DLC for ME 2, in ME 3, I feel no hunger.

Many games have DLC that doesn't "change the ending" but just gives you more fun gameplay in a universe you love.

See also Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Dragon Age: Origins, Borderlands, Fallout 3, Resident Evil 5, etc.

If you don't want to see more of the story unveiled, meet new characters and experience new threats/triumphs then by all means don't buy any DLC. But there are a lot of people who DO want to do these things regardless of how the game ends. For us it's not just the destination but the journey we take that matters.

We all know this. In fact the majority of DLC doesn't change the ending.

The problem is that the ending renders the rest obsolete. It needs to be changed for us to be able to enjoy the story, therefore any more DLC... what's the point?
