you should NEVER be at extraction until less than 10 seconds remaiming. you should be at the far side of the map. then you will see how easy it is

I'll list some tips as I think of them:
> Marauders and cannibals are more dangerous at mid range than a banshee is, since she's not packing heat. Take them out first.
> Don't let banshees or brutes close. No, you're not being epic by meleeing a banshee. You're dying.
> Kill ravagers please
> Equip accordingly. Forget incendiary, cryo and disruptor rounds. Warp and armor piercing ammo is what you need to bring. Since the majority of the reaper force on later waves is big armored units, you want to bring big guns; claymore, wraith, black widow, harrier, saber, etc. You need to be hitting hard.
> Stick together. Dying is fine if you're 4 steps away from the nearest teammate. Don't force your team to evaporate by dying an entire map length from the rest of the group.
> Use survival packs, use rockets, use gel. But use them when the time is right. You probably shouldn't be using any of them before wave 3. Don't be afraid to pop off a rocket or two in waves 8 and 9, either.
> If you see a banshee near one of your team mates, equip your launcher. Seriously, 90% of the time if a teammate is touching a banshee, she's gonna sync him, and there's nothing you can do about it unless you have a rocket ready.

The key to reapers on gold is mobility. Cerberus, and to an extent geth, allow you to bunker down and defend one position, but the entire reaper force is designed to thwart that.

Beerfish, I could give you a Krogan Soldier build and weapon setup to use against Reapers. This build will be boosted by this week's balance changes to Krogan's as well.
Krogan Soldier - Phaelon
Fortification (5) - Damage Reduction
Carnage (3) - Close range stagger/reload option
Inferno Grenade (6) - Set for number and radius
Battlemaster (6) - Specced for weapon damage
Rage (6) - Specced for Health/Shields
Weapons:
Mattock X - Armor Piercing V and Barrel Extender V
Claymore X - Barrel Extender V and Smart Choke V
Equipment:
Armor - Adrenaline or Strength
Ammo - Incendiary or Cryo
Weapon - Assault or Shotgun depending on CQB preference
Gear - Stronghold Package
An all round fighter capable of attacking anything at any range, just like a Krogan should. Krogan aren't meant to simply specialize one way or another, but rather provide a brute force attack/defense wherever they're deployed.

Of course, my post isn't some concrete guide that should be followed strictly, but I tend to prefer warp and AP against reapers for the sheer damage.ryoldschool wrote...

Just leech onto some gold matches if you suck that bad...
You shouldn't feel intimidated by gold. It's not that difficult, but I tend to stick to silver since I find it more fun.+
Edit: Or join a group. Plenty of them on BSN
I'd love to have a stab at the game, but judging by the evidence of this very board, a lot of Gold players are elitist blowhards who'll explode at you for falling anywhere short of optimum efficiency - who'll be genuinely, spleen-shatteringly angry if you don't use a medi-gel at the correct time, or who'll kick you if you don't use a class that they think is capable of helping them amass the most number of credits in the least number of seconds.
I wish them the best of luck, but they're playing for different reasons to me. I want to have fun on a game I love, but I don't want that fun to be at anyone's expense. I want to win, but I don't have to win. I like failing. I like being forced, panicking, into a corner and having no idea whether the team's going to win or lose by my hand. That's exciting for me. According to half of BSN, the fact that I stand a chance of commiting the cardinal sin of getting into that scenario - and that I might not even get out - means that I don't deserve to play Gold. And hence I've never tried.
Which is why this thread makes me very happy. This is the other half - the mythical nice half, who I never thought existed but always really, really hoped. If I saw more threads like this I'd have given Gold a chance a lot sooner. Maybe even got halfway good at it by now.
So for that reason I'm absolutely chuffed about this thread, and I'll be adding a load of you, so do say if you'd be happy for me to join you. I'm an average enough player - solid in Silver - but I don't want to leech, I want to have a go, and I want to help, and I want to reach extraction on Gold by the skin of my teeth, and if we go down we're going to go down fighting.
Count me in!

PC Origins: Chopstick88. I'll likely be playing with a friend. If you want to join in and can't, let me know and I'll have it reset to private until you enter.
I'll accept any and all invitations. Although I've played a number of random gold matches I'll be warming up Wed and early Fri, likely, maybe a little Thu. Friday night (EST) I will likely be ready then on. If you want to try a gold match [before the event], just to see how you'll fair, let me know.
Details: Veteran SI medic, kite, and node (de)activator. Just shout out and hang on. If it's a node [wave], hate to say it but you're going to be minus a primary medic for a minute, so stick to your buddies.

I have never fought reapers on gold.
Anyone got any tactics?
*sighs in contemplation* Tactics? Hmm...
FB Giant is recommended, since it's a wide open area, you'll have freedom to maneuver.
If you have a pair of biotics, they can cause a lot of damage if they are well coordinated. A biotic team can pull off a huge amount of biotic explosions, which can be quite devistating. Besides, "Jamie wants big boom."
Speaking of biotic teams, travel in pairs, but maintain a supportive distance away from the others.
Hold off your supplies if you can help it. They'll come in handy at the end of the rounds more than it will on wave 1. That's not to say don't use it until the end. If the situation calls for it, use it. With three other players, you're bound to have another rocket around, so conserve, but don't be shy. Ideally, save them for batches of Banshees.
Stay a good distance away from nodes if you're not on them, but that's not to say don't protect the nodes. This is especially important if they're non infiltrators (or don't have other means of passive protection), as they are quite vulnerable.
If I'm around, or a duration infiltrator, on a node objective, the third man should regroup with the second pair. I can handle myself, and can get to objectives with (relative) ease. I imagine other duration infiltrators are used to this as well.
Enemies:
I think Ravagers tend to be the most dangerous target, since they're artilery and can keep you supressed for a good while. [Focus fire on them when you can, but be careful and stay in cover (if you can help it).]
Banshees are extremely dangerous, unless you're able to take away their support. Still, in a game they're my primary target since they instakill easily. If you have a good kite, they shouldn't be a problem. If you don't, recommend a staggered withdrawl.
Brutes are low priority targets. They have no ranged attack and tend to be slow at melee. They move slowly, and they telegraph their attacks. Still, always exercise caution, even husks (which holds you in position to be killed by, say, a Ravager) and swarmers (dot damage).
Cannabals and Marauders are annoying enough that they're arguably secondary only to Ravagers. [They may be lower tier troops, but that doesn't mean they're merely cannon fodder. This is gold, after all.]
dysturbed0ne wrote...
Infiltrators don't need "cover fire" for triggers....you are not helping by standing over him/her. If they are spec'd for duration, they shouldn't have any problem sneaking around and getting to the triggers.
Despite the fact that this is true in most games I play (since I'm usually SI), I recommend a bit of caution with this regard. MAKE SURE that the infiltrator is either has duration TC or knows what they're doing.
[Note^: I didn't read this very well, so I thought it said something different. This is actually right, but I still recommend excersising caution. Make sure the inf is speced for duration.]
Good luck, all! See ya on the other side!

Sorry I ended up missing you tonight... bad timing, as every time I tried to join, game was full (and every time I got an invite, I was mid-match). I definitely want to hook up with you for the weekend operation though. I feel I am a very good silver player at this point, and I have had a few successful gold runs with friends, but those have been limited to Cerberus/Geth at White/Ghost. So, I am not uber-confident in gold and definitely feel I would need major assistance... BUT I understand to cover, stick with team, don't hug banshees, use equipment and consumables, etc. I am probably selling myself short/under-estimating my own abilities for gold, but I feel it's safer to go in very conservative rather than blowhard, especially since I've never even attempted Reapers/Gold before.
I would be rolling my most comfortable character and weapon, level 20 Turian Sentinel. Mattock X with AP mod and scope. 4/6/6/4/6 specced for: damage resistance in TA, force/power/pierce in Warp, chain/damage to armor & barriers in Overload, and health/shields in fitness. I am currently playing lots of silver this week so I can exclusively blow all my money on JEPs to get more consumables/equipment.
Have a mic and 100% open to suggestions/comments/advice/orders. Tell me what you want to explode, and I will make it glow blue. LOL
Gonna be on Friday night, vast majority of Saturday, and Sunday morning.

Also, some notes for newer players to help themselves:
- GodlessPaladin's guide to using missiles
- Clarification on game mechanics
- Read up on how power combos work.
- Some friendly tips for new players
- In general, a quick forum search for guides in the multiplayer forum will help you out with gold viable class builds.
- Try to conserve medigel. It's better to bleed out in rounds 1-5 than to die on wave 10 before the objective is done.
- Stick close to the group, and watch each other's backs. Once you've got a good feel for things, playing rambo starts working better, but four players moving throughout the map as a coordinated kill team is more effective than each one fighting solo.
- Try to play classes and loadouts that complement each other. It doesn't matter if your build is sub-optimal, as long as you're helping the team. This means that four snipers is not a good idea, but pairing one sniper with a good CQC class can pay off really well.
- Ultralight Materials doesn't work. Neither does the Krogan Vanguard's rage. I know they look like they do, but they don't. Don't put up a fight about it, just work around the problem.
- Use your mics if you have them.
It looks intimidating, but mostly it's just comon sense. I don't care about outlandish builds (though Asari Adept or Vanguard with heavy sniper rifles might get some comments...)

The common mistake noobs make during wave 11 is trying to hold out the LZ for the whole wave, burining all of their missiles on targets that immediately respawn a few meters away from where the last one was destroyed.
A better tactic is to move away from the extraction zone until the last 30-40 seconds, then run to the extraction zone, that way it's not crawling with enemies.
SO TRUE! If you are getting your escape to the LZ cut off, you might run early, but otherwise why fight? Kite or hide. If the enemy is moving away from the LZ for 30 seconds because nobody is there, you have saved at least 30 seconds of fighting. Just be careful to keep two routes open if you can. Hide instead of fighting if there is any risk. I think on FB white you have to get close to the LZ, routes get cut off fast. On FB huge, if one person goes there, you are kind of screwed because the crowd will migrate there and cut off players. FB hydra is a really good place to get far away from the LZ. FB dagger is a mix, just see which routes are being taken for spawns. FB goddess people vastly underestimate that ammo box on top right in the corner (directions relative to when you first land, to the right, top floor, all the way in back). FB jade seems to be a mixed bag, mostly if someone goes to the LZ early. FB ghost is a lot of fun, you can either cut off the left and right sides by moving in pairs to those and not in the LZ, or by hiding at the far end away from the LZ. So...you can fight all of the infinite spawns, continuously, or you can go to the other side and watch them walk around a lot.

I am happy to help out. Origin ID: hades9511
The squad build which my team and I used when we tried firebase hydra and reactor reaper gold last week.
1st squad build
2 turian soldiers
1 - Me with cerberus harrier X, points into marksman for firing rate, headshots and accuracy + firing rate
Also in turian veteran (4th category in powers) i specced for damage + stability, headshots and damage and stability
2 - Another guy with hurricane, similar setup.
3 and 4 - Both people playing as regular asari adept with heavy pistols only. ( one was using carnifex and the other paladin)
Basic strategy was the asari's detonated each others warps. They used stasis to keep sneaky marauders of our backs.
Me and the other turian soldier were using marksman + our guns to quickly kill ravagers and brutes at long range. When banshees showed up asari's started warping them + throw= explosions and once the banshee stopped charging focused fire from me and the other turian with harrier and hurricane.
Was fun. Did get ambushed a few times wherein rockets were needed. But made extraction.
Try this squad combo and hope it works for you as it did for us.
Enjoy this weekends event
