Was this your reaction to the upcoming weekend event?  "Oh great, Gold... and Reapers, isnt that super." Then this thread is for you! I am extending an olive branch from the more experienced players that are ready, willing and patient enough to help others with this challenge. If you are willing to help this weekend and arent annoyed by people asking you questions on play styles, character class builds, etc; please leave your gamertag here so that less experienced players can join in the fun and participate in the gold challenge! I am asking that veterans only leave gamertags and platform they play on, less experienced guys are more than welcome to leave feedback and comment, but if you would like to recieve help I am asking that you actively get it by seeking out a GT listed on the thread. I hope this idea works! Good luck...

GT: payne trayne on xbox

**edit on 7/11**  -- thanks to all those willing to participate. after reading the posts on this thread I have a few rules that should make this run smoother.
1) When you are ready to play the gold challenge -- that is the time to come on this forum and write your GT down as well as your PLATFORM and whether you are a mentor or rookie looking to learn the game! This way their will not be issues of trying to meet up at different times to help out rookies or for rookies to find mentors
2) I am suggesting a ratio of 3:1 or 2:2 -- mentors:rookies. For mentors looking to help but needing other veterans, they can meet up on this forum as well at the time they are willing to get on and help...
3) For people looking to be helped win gold - Please have a few characters maxed out for this weekend (lvl 20). Your mentor can help you choose the correct class to help compliment theirs or there are other threads out there which give suggestions for fighting reaps this weekend.
4) Mentors/Veterans -- I obviously do not need to tell you how to play this game, but I would suggest also having a high level character when helping this weekend. I personally almost never use a lvl 20 character as I often promote right away. But in an effort to be most effective, I may keep my adept and infiltrator classes maxed out for this weekend and have fun with my other classes in the meantime.
5) Rookies/newer guys to gold - you are not here to leech or get a free ride... Learn from you vets and be as productive as possible. Remember that we are taking the time to help create the next generation of Vets!
6) Have fun! I am excited to help but have limited time this weekend....so make some new friends on this forum when you can get on this weekend. Happy hunting.

I have gotten a number of requests for help this weekend, I will do the best I can to get as many people as possible through the squad goal, but there is a chance that I may be unavailable due to circumstance. Please be patient. On that note, one person suggested training prior to the weekend event, I am on most nights after 10PM, and I am willing to help you through a gold match through this week so you can see how its done.

Builds and weapons you carry are secondary to your discipline and tactics in game, it rare to have a very broken build thats nigh unusable, but you can have builds that will challenge you if you have the skill to carry it.

You have to play gold differently than you play Silver, just as you have to take Silver more serious than Bronze.

Nice to see so many willing to help us novices. :) But please post you time zone too, so I don’t come bugging you in the middle of the night. ;)

I’m looking for help in Europe CET +2 (PST -10 ) (EST -7). I’m on PC and my Origin ID is MeiraE

I will be available for most of Sunday, from noon onwards.

I have played silver with Geth Infiltrator and I just got an Asari Adept, which I like a lot. Both are a bit squishy classes, but duck and cover seems to be working for me a bit better than charging right in (I experimented a bit with a vanguard until bugs forced me to stop). I just found some good tips on Geth Infiltrator builds and I was looking tips for Asari Adept build when I stumbled upon this tread.

I will pack my best equipment along! Not that it will be that shiny, but I’ll try my best. :)

EDIT:

I think that I will be going with the Asari Adept with:

4/6/6/6/4
Stasis: strenght
Warp: detonate, lasting damage, pierce
Throw: force, detonate, force & damage
Justicar: power damage & capacity, power damage, pistol weight
Fitness: durability

Ammo: Disruptor rounds
Weapon: Pistol rail amp
Armor: Power Amp OR Effiency
Gear: Stronghold pac

Currently the Arch pistol is by far my best pistol, so I'll probably be using that.

Phalanx and Carnifex are maybe better choice for your AA.

Yep, I was suggersted that by a veteran player. Works nicely + better power recharge time.

I like 6 6 6 5 3 build for AA-with Stronghold you are good to go..It works better for Cerberus, but Reaper also have units, that are weak vs Stasis (yes I´m looking at those pesky Marauders and Cannibals)

  • The justice branch I go for power bonus and capacity. I do not do tier 6.
  • I stop at 5. Then i put three on fitness. I tried 4 and 4 on justicar and fitness but like the power damage boost. Throw set for force will kill most minions husk troopers with one throw this way.
  • People say the extra health doesn't do much for the AA on gold because shes so low on health and shields but that's why I put some in. Give me a little more. Every bit helps I think.
  • You want to stay at medium to long range. Spam throw on minions if there is a group use stasis bubble and one guy with shields use warp. Unless he's close then Use stasis.
  • And biotic explosion is your friend. Set them off as often as possible. For weapon you want to get as close to 200% as possible. I use a carnfax and have a recharge of 180 so
  • Something. I also use structural economics for a faster recharge time. Hope that helped

 ^ Added bullet points.

I agree with apascone mostly. Those parts that I disagree I see validity so I feel its worthless for me to argue, especially considering I do the same. Merely I'll state that the 6/6/6/5/3 build over the 6/6/6/6/0 build is a matter of preference.

Biotics are ALWAYS a good choice.

Your main weapon is biotics. Focus on biotics. That being said, I recommend using efficiency (as apascone said). You'll be able to throw... well, throw throw a lot faster. Recommend also lightening your load as much as possible for biotics, but when you need to use your weapon, you'll want something you know how to use. That being said, select the one weapon you know you can use effectively in CQC.

To score biotic combos, warp then throw. Apascone said this, but got the order in reverse, but I imagine that this was implied. Or maybe you can do throw+warp, I don't think so...

EDIT

I currenlty run a 5/6/6/3/6 AA, and can thus see merit to a 6/6/6/4/4 build too. In fact, you probably get the best of both worlds between a 66653 and a 66660 that way (if you don't mind that pesky point left over). If your choice is between a Phalanx at 200% and Carnifex below ~180% cooldown, I'd still probably take the Carnifex.

Also remember that in tech-heavy teams your Throw will also set off TEs, in which case you'll largely forgeo Warp use unless you know it won't be overwritten. It's much quicker to Throw tech-primed targets the whole time than to Warp-tech-overwrite-Throw (as invariably happens in the heat of battle).

Edit: Forgot to add that I prefer Stasis: Bonus Power over Recharge Speed. Some simple math to prove my point:
Weapon Cooldown 200% + Stasis 2's 25% + Bonus Power gives an average cooldown of (12s / (1 + 225%)) * (1 - 30%) = ~2.58s (70% of the time ~3.69s, 30% of the time nothing)
Weapon Cooldown 200% + Stasis 2's 25% + Recharge Speed's 35% gives a total cooldown of (12s / (1 + 260%)) = ~3.33s

AA tips

Thanks for the insight folks! :)

I just realised that that the last level of Justicar (pistols) was an useles choice sinse with phalanx the recharge speed is already 200%. Or am I copletely mistaken? Better spend those points somwhere else.

A couple of us recommended redistributing your points. One said 6/6/6/5/3, another said 6/6/6/6/0, and another one still recommends 6/6/6/4/4, but one trend emerges: focusing on biotics, biotics, biotics.

If you can run a 6/6/6/4/4 (or however order you want to arrange that) well, I see no reason to change that, but to keep going with that build. Personally, I do find that 1 extra skill point annoying to look at.

Anything that's said is recommended, not demanded. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool...

That's true, but if you have a second biotic, it seems well worth comboing BE over TB. BE seems to do a heckload more damage, plus its harder to set off. Just about anything will set off a TB. Harder still are CE or FE, but I don't know if they do that much damage, they are so rare and all. However, any combo is better than none, which is what I tend to find in my randoms (whether it's R/R/G or W/G/G).

That said, practice the mindset of warp/throw/throw.

If you've done the math, no point in arguing. Also no point arguing since I only proficient with AAs (I specialize with Salarians).

Congrats!

I thought I did my first successful non FBWGG gold match this week, but it happens that the person set it to silver. I was suddenly disappointed with myself as I've failed my kiting (got my heart pulled out of my chest and fed to the fires), which I've done sucessfully on Giant Reaper Gold.

Huge bump for a great cause! If it weren't for people like iampayne and invader, I wouldn't be playing ME 3 (I'm a very new gamer). I like instruction, practice and advice. My player tag is the same as my EA tag. I'm on PC.
