I noticed a couple of posts from people who don't normally play Gold difficulty about this weekend. I don't normally play Gold, either. I've finished Gold successfully exactly once for each weekend Promotion that has required it (3 so far, I think... maybe 2).
My best performances that are the most helpful/least noobish were done using support-style characters, like the Asari Justicar and the Geth Engineer. I didn't get many kills in either case, but the team as a whole was quite successful.

Asari Justicar -
Levelled up to the point where I had the Biotic Sphere maxed out with defense, lvl4 Sphere area expansion, lvl 5 -10% damage, lvl 6 -10% damage and +10% shield recharge speed.
Levelled up Pull and Reave to 4, picking +2M radius and +3M radius, respectively.

From there, I found the nearest high-quality sniper, placed my shield around him (and a good defensive spot for myself). I used Pull and Reave to stagger anything that got close to him, and ran out from my position to revive him (or her, I don't technically know) every time he went down. I tried to make sure groups of enemies with shields were reaved to make sure they weren't regenerating, and I used light, rapid-fire weapons to keep my refresh time high.

Geth Engineer -
Levelled up Overload to Lvl 4, added +1 target within 8M
Levelled up Geth Turret to Lvl 6, taking all shield-restoring bonusus (expanded range, +50% shields restored, +60% shield refresh speed).

From there, the same basic strategy as with the Justicar, I stuck with the nearest experienced sniper, kept my turret set near his position and my own, and revived him whenever he went down. Because I was using Overload and a Valiant 3, I was able to rack up quite a few more kills this way, but I still came in dead last.

If anyone has good suggestions for other support-style characters, that would be great. These are the only two I've tried on Gold, so far. I know there's a Quarian with a scan power that might translate well to a support role, but advice would be most welcome.

Obviously, this advice isn't going to make you a hero, or land you the most experience.

   Good luck this weekend, everyone.
