By G4tv...what is up with these people??? Giving RPG GOTY to Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story....that is like a smack in the face to people. While it is a good game, but winning RPG GOTY over Dragon Age: Origins AND Demon Souls? Someone needs to wake up the G4 staff since not only did they pick the games for each category but also picked the winners. Dragon Age: Origins wasn't even picked for anything else BUT RPG GOTY.

G4 still exists? Really?

While I do disagree with their decision, I cannot deny that it is their right to make up their own list of GOTY picks. Of course, we are all within our rights to totally disregard G4's picks as summarily flawed. Personally, I will be exercising that right.

I don't think the G4TV audience was the target audience DA:O was shooting for... they're much more MW2-ish... my dad still calls my RPG fetish "girl games" LOL... I'm sure they wouldn't complain if their product was purchased by said audience, but I don't know if Bio was that optimistic. =D

Both games you mentioned were likely too hard for them, so they couldn't get far enough to get a valid opinion.

I would of rather it have lost to Torchlight than Mario and Luigi...that is a disgrace really, Mario and Luigi..Heck...losing to Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor would of been better than that!

G4 is just trying to stand out from the crowd. They're like the teenage that wears black all the time. Maybe it's better to characterize G4 as an over the hill pudgy dude suddenly dressing like he was 20.

Pffffft, G4 lost me when they joined with TechTV and restructured to utter crap. The loss of Corey Rouse on Cheat! was the beginning of the end.

Who cares about G4? It's run by a bunch of suit wearing ass kissing corporate drones that don't know anything about games. Not to mention the fact it turns into Trailer Trash TV at night by airing reruns of Cheaters and Cops.

Yeah um G4 has more or less lost all relevance to me. On the plus side though it got RPG of the year from IGN for xbox (of course the only competition was Star Ocean so...) and it got RPG, best story, and GOTY on PC from IGN. We find out from gamespot here in a couple days.

Meh. I <3 IGN, but I think they're leg-humping because they miss the ad revenues they got from nwvault and want to be the official repository of DA:O mods too! LOL

I agreed with most of IGNs picks. DA didn't get RPG on PS3 for example, that went to Demon's Soul. Of course I'm just glad Modern Warfare 2 did so bad, so overrated, but that's off-topic! I've played all the RPGs they had for PC and I do agree DA was the best of them however the rest were mostly indie games so... I can't see Mario and Luigi beating it though, at all...

I don't know how strong the competition was, but I think the game is too flawed to rank game of the year. I can't get over the dissapointment that it isn't nearly as good as Baldur's Gate.

Baldur's Gate = 2d graphic hundreds of hours of gameplay in a well established world with existing and extensive lore

Dragon Age: Origins = 3d multi-platform having to establish world, atmosphere, and lore

If you have a week to tell a story and a day to tell a story, guess which one is likely to be more detailed?

I had a prof in college that I'd had for several classes within my major. The third time I took a class with him he assigned a midterm with an 8 page limit. I handed in a 12 page paper. He handed it back to me and said, "Rewrite this in 3 pages or you won't get better than a C."

Best lesson I learned in college: You are completely wrong Adria.

same here fro7k. The game has some stellar moments but they're too far in between sometimes. Factor in that the game falls off substantially at Ostagar and well, I can see why it wouldn't make game of the year. David Gaider recently explained a lot of content around that area was cut from the game. That explains a lot to me, as I felt that part of the game was unfinished and missing something. The origins were fantastic, things just settled down too much after that. I enjoyed the deep roads though, but I felt it was too short...or maybe just too chopped up to give a sense of continuity.

Now that I think about it...maybe that was the larger problem to me. How everything is broken up into little spots on the map that you can explore, especially when you're in a closed in area like the Deep Roads...

Dragon Age is a good game, it's just not the pinnacle of perfection I was hoping it would be. Still I'm satisfied with most everything, excluding wardens keep which is...well I'm going to stop harping on it. It is what it is...terrible.

From G4tv the comp. for RPG of the year was: Demon's Souls(PS3) Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story(DS) Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor(PSP I think) and Torchlight(PC) and Dragon Age

For PC GOTY from IGN it was Braid, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Empire: Total War, Left 4 Dead 2, and Dragon Age

For PC RPG it was Dragon Age, Risen, and Torchlight.

Really there just wasn't much this year in terms of RPGs period...

Next year should be fun, seeing Mass Effect 2 go up against Final Fantasy XIII
