I've done the "rescue Tali" part of ME1 slightly different this time - I've recruited Wrex and gone straight after Fist/Tali (good job I put a / there, lol) - I usually recruit both Wrex and Garrus before going after Fist/Tali... so anyway, I'm now faced with an interesting decision, as it appears I have the option of not recruiting Garrus at all... if I don't, does it have any impact on ME2?
I've neglected to recruit Wrex before, and if I remember correctly, he made no appearance in ME2 or ME3, would it be the same for Garrus? (I know he has a much bigger part to play, but it would be an interesting development)
ME1: What happens...?

Huh... just googled it, and if what others are saying about it is true, it makes very little difference in ME2 - looks like ignoring player choices dates back further than I thought.

You don't have to recruit either Garrus or Wrex. I have one play through where I left them both on the Citadel for the whole game. Doesn't make much of a difference in ME 2. If left behind in ME 1 some dialog is changed when you meet Garrus on Omega and FemShep is unable to romance him. Shepard will still react as if they're old buddies. Wrex is treated as dead and you will meet Wreav on Tuchanka.

If you have neither Garrus nor Liara by Virmire, the game won't let you kill Wrex.

Well, that's OK, 'cause I'm going for the "Play The Majority Of The Game With The Krogan" achievement on this playthru (360).
Speaking of which, is there a glitch with the achievements on 360? I've somehow managed to unlock the "Play The Majority With Quarian" achievement, even tho' I've never actually done that, until the current playthru I'd never used Tali... yet I haven't unlocked the "Play The Majority With Asari" achievement, even though I have used Liara thru most of the game on most playthru's - so have those two been cross-wired or something?

The ally achievements require different numbers of missions. Garrus and Liara require 50 missions, all the others require 45. Since you get most of the other companions earlier, that makes their achievements easier to acquire.
If you want the asari ally achievement, try leaving as many of the citadel assignments as possible until after you get Liara.

It gets a bit silly in ME2 if Garrus was never recruited in ME1. When you first meet him in ME2 his dialogue is slightly different, but for the rest of the game it's exactly the same - he even comments more than once, during combat against Geth, that it's "just like old times".
