Feh. Was this not a David Gaider appreciation thread, I'd be kicking up a storm about Aeris' 'legendary' death.

So David Gaider is the one responsible for driving my wife to tears with Alistair?

My proudest moment.

I know it probably makes me a bad person, but there are moments when the thought of all the Alistair fangirls and Morrigan fanboys tearing out their hair and rending their shirts pleases me inordinately.

Heh, a bad person? Meh

You made a gamer out of my wife, even though she resorted to giving me a few bruisers squealing about Alistair (hell I hope she never reads this lol!), heh, you've done a good job and have every reason to be proud mate =)

You know, as a fellow bad person, is it not such grand times, when you realize the fruition of your hard larbours?
Btw, are you responsible for the whole conversation piece with Morrigan and Alistair and all those lovely sexual references, ending with Allistair gushing like a 5 yr old boy? If so, totally kick arse.

Second, is this what one should expect from Bioware games?  This is the first one I've played: my previous experience has been mostly in mmorpgs.   It boggles my mind why a game developer would write the relationship with the "natural" sidekick to be so ultimately unsatisfying.

Well, other than his Loghain hissyfit when I wanted Loghain to be a Grey Warden for the good of the land and wanted Alistair to be king, can't say I had a problem with my natural sidekick.  But then, my character's love interest was not Alistair.

Relationships run the gammet though in Bioware games.  Some of that is due to the strength of the writing of various characters, as well as how well that character's personality attracts you.  And some of it is because, if they all end happy, well, that gets a bit predictable.  I would say that this one has the best/most interaction for the romances.  It all having voice over helps.

Added to that, the natural ending to the Alistair romance, which would be not letting him spend the night with Morrigan and a dead Alistair, well, that really is a strong ending.  Tragic, yeah, but one you remember because of that.  An ending that makes you feel for the character far more than "and you travelled around with Leliana."  Not that I want my Leliana dead, but if she had died as part of that final fight, it'd hit a lot harder.

Plus Mr. Gaider feeds on your tears.

What anyone finds satisfying is going to vary... in this case, if what one requires is their HEA in order to be satisfied then yes, they're going to be unsatisfied. Being satisfied isn't the goal, however. Being emotionally engaged is.

As for what is satisfying, you may be right. I've noticed that a lot of posts about the tearing out of hair and rending of shirts end with "I won't make that mistake again *in my next playthrough*" Image IPB

My problem with the Alistair ending is that it isn't heroic. Dumping the PC after the Landsmeet wasn't a Great Act of Vengeance or even Treachery; it was the ignomious act of a weak man.

Overall, though, DA:O is so brilliant that it's already got me thinking about DA2.  If the latter is going to end like a Russian play, I'd like to some advance warning Image IPB

More the fangirls rending their shirts than the fanboys, I think...

And for myself, I've had dev cruch on Dave since Valen back in HotU....

Unless your his wife, thats not going to get you your happy ending, what they didn't tell you is that at the end Morrigan eats the PC and it shows a close up of her and elmo going off in the sunset, bahaha.

My offers to Mr. Gaider of a sensuous Antivan massage were met with a staunch "No."

I know what you  mean, to me it seems the writers get off  on making the story have very little good and it's out to make you feel bad at the end and as he said, it's not about making you happy.  I guess that sells, it did on the  first one, but I will be honest as much as I have liked this game, untill it's end, I will think twice on getting the next one, not all things in the dark ages were bad, somewhere there had to be some good.

Careful, we'll form a lynch mob and *edited for personal threats* if you don't give us what we want!
JK

Don't get too cocky, GRRM still has you beat for horribly tragic endings, though I think he's taken you as an understudy...  This means I may never see my beloved Morrigan again.  Hard to imagine something worse in store for her than Red Wedding..

Yuph, Dave's been writing with Bioware all the way back from BG2 (I think he wrote Anomen's romance too, among other things, but I might be wrong here)

I think the only major release that Dave hasn't worked on from Bioware (no I don't count Sonic... hell I don't even know who worked on Sonic) is Mass Effect.

I though he worked on JE, epsecially since I seem to remember Zu having all the hallmarks of a DG™ character.

How do you sleep at night?!

Well, after I wipe the one, single tear from my cheek -- shed in anguish at the thought of all the grief I have caused -- eventually pure exhaustion takes me. It's a rough existence, but the booze helps.

So if the booze helps, does that mean Ohgren was modeled after you?  Is it true is David Gaider a drunken dirty dwarf?

Either way thanks like everyone here has said.  Honestly if Morrigan did not make it back for DA 2 I would not be sad.  But a chance to fight the demon baby would be cool.

Bah, too much love and joy here, totally sickens me!  You all make me sick, where's the bashing, the crying and the sense of entitlement gone?  This is the intertubes people!  You'll never get me saying anything nice!

Alright, okay, maybe just this once, thanks for a great game... <_<

Made to commit acts too unspeakable to be cited here by an enemy who had captured his mind and his soul. He freed himself at last and in the end, heroically and unhesitatingly gave his life to save his country. David Gaider... Hell... Hell.

Perhaps he watches you from your bushes at night?

Also, I'd like to echo the OP and say thank you, as well. Alistair and Morrigan were both amazing, and good on the entire DA:O team for making such a wonderful fantasy game. I was well and truly tired of the fantasy genre, but you rekindled an old flame for me.

I love you guys, I always have. You make me proud to be Albertan.
