How has ME3 changed your view of the video game industry?

ME3 showed to me that game journalism is a non-profession full of sellouts who just take bribes all day. I find it impossible to take anything said by any mainstream reviewing site seriously anymore.

I mean the amount of reviewers who just praised this game into the heavens without having the slightest clue what they were talking about... it removed any doubt I had that these people were at all professionals.

Oh I noticed it before that ... some with some of langauge used in the reviews and the tone of the review...  especially after i would play a game , read a review and asked.  Did me and the reviewer play the same game.

It points out how much video game writers, in general, STILL suck, and how video game companies still don't get the importance of it. Typical cutting off the nose despite the face by a fundamentally amateurist industry. And it shows exactly the aforementioned noob journalism (which isn't journalism at all, but pure marketing lying that it is journalism) that accompanies an ignorant industry.

it made me despise IGN....but then again, i've never liked them since they seem to hate anything that isn't COD.

Yes, but to the degree that a senior editor would get FIRED for giving a mediocre score to a game the company was being paid to advertise. I mean, we're well beyond bribes "influencing" game scores at that point. That is about as corrupt as corrupt gets without assassinations.

I never got over when IGN gave Kingdom Hearts 2 a 7.6. Apparently Square Enix failed to pay IGNs monthly stipend on that day.

Its not just the writing ... the marketing and PR too.. 

because  sweet baby jesus.. if the Executive Producer , Marketing and PR did not give  Square an undo headache  for sheer stupidity with the New  Tomb Raider  taking what was one of the more anticapated titles  of the year and now destorying that was  PR disaster that could have been avoid with some fore thought.   

Matter of fact between  Casey Hudson and Ron what ever his name is the was Executive Producer of the new Tomb Raider game... I have come to believe that  Exectutive Producers need to leave the selling of the game to the Devs, Artist and Writers.  And Marketing needs to take course in how sensitive topics are not "Cool" selling points for games. 
 
@Chronodragon - If anything what  we saw with  Kane and Lynch was this issues coming to a head.. .well that was before ME 3.

Story and writing are still not where they need to be. Game developers increasingly do not understand their audiences and increasingly do not care. Of the 3.5 million or so sales of ME2, what percentage of those people said "Boy this would be even better with repetitive multiplayer maps"? People maybe wanted co-opt but I digress. They think all gamers are the same and want the same things; gamers must all be COD and GoW bros. They tried to make DA2 more action oriented in order to pretend it was like God of War. Of course, making it faster just makes it harder to play (and less fun for your RPG audience). All it ended up doing was pissing everyone off.

It's shown me that Bioware is no longer one of my top-tier developers and that I don't like the direction RPG's are going in.

More than upsetting me with the gaming industry, I'm just not into the video game reviewers any more. I'm waiting for fan reviews of games, at this point. Through the ME3 ending debacle, I found a bunch of fan reviewers so, thanks BSN!

I thought the EC fixed enough that I went back and bought Javik. But I'm not going to be pre-ordering a lot of titles. DA3 is the last shot at a pre-order for me. I have AC3 on pre-order but that whole thing sucks, too, because the different collectors packs blow depending on what country you live in (why, yes, I am bitter because I want one of the British collectors packs and the US ones have that stupid flag instead).

I'm also more aware that I'm just dollar signs in the eyes of developers, too, if they even consider me as a female gamer. The Tomb Raider Rape Origin shows me that they really do not want me playing their game so I'll find something else to play instead.

Action RPGs are now just merging with action games. Almost all action games nowadays have RPG elements and even some weapon or armor customization. It's frustrating. There needs to be something besides Gears of War/Call of Duty on the one hand and Japanese RPGs on the other and  old and soul-crushing grinding MMOs on another.:(

Yeah, they've changed how I view games in general. I literally couldn't play games the first month after I beat ME3. I just felt like I totally lost interest in them because of how down I was about the ending. Then I got Deus Ex HR..... and that game kicked ass!

I haven't been able to fionish ME3 either. I want to but the game is a chore, not fun and not RPG which I like. EC made the ending bearable but I think they rushed it out the door and only addressed 1% of what was wrong with it.

I want to finish ME3, because I am OCD about completing games I start. That and baby Krogans. But ugh is like nails on a chalkboard every time my Sheppard has no decent dialog wheel option.

As for the press.. I had little faith on them before, now I will specifically do the opposite of what they recommend.

It completely changed my view on EA, not BioWare. Before ME3, I did not understand all the hate against EA. Now after the ending debate, I'm beginning to understand why everyone hates them. They destroy franchises and make stupid comments. The bad thing is that they pretty much own all the developers that I like. I have not lost faith in BioWare, and will not do so for some time. However, if they **** up again, I might start to look elsewhere.

Well  DA:O  a combat  suck  complete and totaly ass... really and did ME  shooting mechanics.

The entire fight "Moving into positon"    

RPG battle Systems across the board really needed to evolve  because they were getting stagant.   Problem with DA 2... it was not done well and its was nothing like  God of War.  The closet  thing I could compare it to was Kingdom Hearts 2. 

Just because your game has story driven gameplay does mean you get to slack on the gameplay part.    

A game that does this balancing marvelously was is Persona 3 and  Persona 4.

Yeah, on console Origins' gameplay didn't work very well. It was designed with isometric point-click RPG gameplay in mind. As a console gamer I thought DA2's gameplay was much better, though still lacking.

Obviously it was nothing like God of War but they were trying to fool people into buying a game by making it look like a hack and slash action game while still telling the fans of the 1st game "Don't worry we've got you covered too". Sadly they didn't satisfy either.

This is not restricted to just ME3, but I learned that once they have a fanbase they will change the game to draw in a new crowd and not worry about the original fans because they're already invested and will be coming back. They don't have to work hard to keep you or anything. It boggles my mind whenever someone asks "why didn't such and such game (like ME3 or DA2) appeal more to fans of the first game(s) rather than the new ones? Because they already have you, that's why.

I've also learned from the outright lies expressed in interviews before the game's release by ME3's head writers about how the story and ending would go that a video game is apparently the one thing where you'll suffer no form of legal punishment for advertising a completely different product than what you're actually selling. Awesome.

ME3 has also given me circumstantial yet extremely-obvious-in-the-common-sense-way confirmation that the major "journalists" of the gaming industry are easily bribed and have little to no journalistic integrity. I mean, I always suspected that IGN's general incompetence and shallow, pandering nature were tied to being capable of being bought off, but seeing them stand at the side of patently obvious poor writing and outright attack their own audience couldn't be a better indicator than if someone recorded EA's CEO hand-delivering a bag of gold coins to IGN's offices.

At least there's still Nintendo and Atlus.  Man, when the day comes that those 2 final bastions of decency and care for one's product lose their integrity as Bioware has, I'm not going to be a mentally sound man any longer.



Agreed, except for perhaps that last sentence.  I probably will just stop gaming.  My gaming has already gone down a thousand fold in the last few years.  Mass Effect was one of those special series' that kept me going...I can still play it, but it just doens't have that same spark as it did before the endings.

How many great RPG franchises can you think of?  There's not many out there. 

Bioware set the standard with RPG/Story based telling with Jade Empire and KOTOR, but unforunately their crushing their own legacy.  I think the gaming industry needs to get back to the basics and reevaluate their tactics and target audience.  I, personally, would take mediocre graphics if I had an amazing story and characters with replay value.  Which is why I go back to KOTOR time and again.

As a general rule, VGChartz.com is unreliable. It has been proven faulty time and again. Still, there is something to say for it showing a 50% decrease, so coupled with other sources, I'm sure DA2 sold less than its predecessor. But just... generally speaking, I really wouldn't use it as a source. Look up why sometime if you're curious.

Okay I got ya,  I have seen that  criticism before  and they were just using at means to knock a game they did not like.  Bioware and the RPG genre first have things the need to address going forward. 

1. Gameplay - I don't care how awesome your story is, the game play is what ties it together. It gets me from point A to point B to see that great story. 

2.  Setting, plot, ETC.  If I see one more  generic fantasy land  X with  Elf Y again  am going to pull my hair out.  Mass Effect tried to change this up  but they did not go deep enough and its clear they did not have a plan for the trilogy after ME 1.   Persona 4  did a great job as  its  supernatural murder mystery set in  small town.
