Goodbye, pre-ordered CEs. It has been a pleasure.
This. ME3 forever has changed me into not being a release day customer
any more, and the poor quality of the CE is one main reason. Hell, even halo 4's LE (a series that I ALWAYS got the legendary/CE on release day) is depressing. CE/LE's used to be collector's items WORTH owning that came with great extras. In halo's case, some kind of badass figure or statue...now it's all just dlc and maps. Not worth an extra $30. Felt the same way about ME 3's CE as well. I was seriously shocked at how poor quality the patch and lithograph were.
While I do appreciate the fact that bioware actually tried to
fix the ending, (the one and ONLY thing that may make me a customer
again in the future) it still didn't fix much and didn't address a few
of the plotholes. Not to mention that they didn't make it obvious if
shepard actually went through an indoc attempt or not.
But anyway on to my rant about the industry.
stupid bs we all hate, is because idiots are actually FALLING FOR IT AND
BUYING THIS STUFF. You can not blame an industry for producing a ****ty
product while selling the other half as dlc if morons actually buy it! So if you hate the day 1 dlc, microtransactions, "half ass single player campaign to produce a somewhat decent multiplayer" or whatever...VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET. As long as people keep throwing money at devs/publishers for pulling this crap, it will stay.

So you resort to metacomplaining.

People disliked the Mako on the rather poor design choice of the jagged planets, so what did Bioware do, instead of - remember the key word here - IMPROVING it, they take it out. ****ty inventory system, they take it out, statistical RPG elements, take it out, etc.
Yeah, that really helps improve the quality of your games.
Gameplay-wise -- and I say this while I'm replaying the trilogy back-to-back-to-back -- I'd say 2 had a lot of improvements over 1, and 3 over 2. I'm definitely having the most fun in combat with 3; I like the faster, more limber Shepard. ME1 I still enjoyed, for all kinds of reasons, but it still feels clunky to me in comparison.
That is combat, which I agree - ME3 has the best. I'm just putting emphasis on the fact that they like to cut out things instead of improving upon.
Sometimes, sure, but sometimes devs have their reasons for scrapping one thing and doing something else. Maybe they felt like the Mako would get stale if they kept it around. Me, I Mako'd the hell out of every world I could this time through the game (even after I found out that the collectibles didn't do anything -- boo to that), but by the end, I'd had my fill of it. Some of the Mako scenes were cool, like the run up to the Conduit; I'll always remember my first playthrough from back in the day, when I made it with one second left. But maybe they felt like they'd done everything they could with the "drive-shoot-drive" gameplay and wanted to let it retire. Who knows?

Okay, I'll play along. Its ruined video games for me, I can no longer take any sort of pleasure from any of the games I play, it doesn't matter who made them or when they were made. I can't even go back and play classic SNES games because the ending of ME3 sucked so much!

I have not bought a game since ME3 and thats the truth, i suppose i just dont want to get to wrapped up in anything just in case i get dissapointed again. I,m the kind of person who is in it for the story and that was the part of the game that was hardest hit by this event.

I was already fairly cynical, but BioWare was one of the last developers I had total faith in.
I defended DA2 and SWTOR and I stood by them. Then came ME3 and I realised just how far they had fallen.
ME3's ending was so horrifically bad it took me several weeks before I got interested in gaming again, because ME3 flat out killed it. It was such a blow to see my absolute favourite sci-fi universe and one of my most beloved series shredded before my very eyes.
The EC patches a few things, such as, you know, the galaxy being destroyed. But they insisted on keeping setting-killing elements like the spacebaby and with that, lost any respect I ever had for them.
Agreed, except it's the writers/directors/producers I've lost respect for. I'm sure there are still hard working BioWare employees that had nothing to do with the direction some people decided to take. For instances Merizan, Priestly and other BioWare staff that grace these forums.
I always hated EA though.
Scum in suits.
But you know at the same time... this whole ending debacle has been a good thing for me too. It has pushed me to get back and find new titles to play and new games. And Guess what there are a lot great titles out there to play ,from companies like Atlus, Rockstar, High Moon, Rocksteady. Bioware/EA and Activison are the begining and end of the gaming world as the Gaming "Journalist" would like to tell everyone and no everyone big publisher and developers is out to make crappy titles.
No love to EA from me, but critizing EA and Activision while defending Rockstar in the same breath?
C'mon people...

Has made me even more cynical and shrewd about what I buy. I thought that after all the fun I had between ME1 and ME2, they couldn't possibly screw up ME3. I pre-ordered a N7 CE ME3. Well.... I won't ever be making that mistake again. First and last time I'll ever pre-order a game, even if the track record of the previous two games in the trilogy were fun as hell.
It still floors me that some people still actually defend this game, despite the blatant lies we were being fed prior to launch. It boggles the mind when they start pointing to all the 'free' DLC which did nothing to fix some of the wonky animation/cutscenes, bugs, and the game-breakingly ******-poor endings/plain out craptacular writing. "But it's FREE!" Yes, because I dearly love another steaming, stinking pile of fail. The EC did nothing but treat a of few of the symptoms, and not really address the problem. It's like going to the doctor for severe abdominal pains and, instead of actually addressing the problem, being given some Motrin and being sent on your way.

"You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain."
Oddly appropriate, given the context of this thread.
Ah, Harvey Dent, we hardly knew ye.
You know, funny thing about that quote, it can just as readily apply to fans as it could to developers, the "you" in the quote not being any kind of existential limiter. I think there's plenty of disfunction to go around on both sides.
I am by NO MEANS an apologist for big gaming companies and the gaming journalist who sometimes seem to have an overtly cozy relationship with them
With regards to the pre-EC endings, while I found it an affront to my aesthetic sensibilities (I say, ol' chum, not tickety-boo at all), I certainly don't think it warranted a tirade of limitless rancor. Actually, I was MORE disappointed and annoyed by the
first-day launch DLC, which seemed to be an overtly cynical grab for
money.
Even so, how can any mortal person or entity expect to appease crowd-sourced micro-managed grievances from an untold number of vocal critics? Where is the middle road to try to satiate all those different voices? It's to the point where it's apparent fans NEVER want to move on from the fact that BW made the blunder in the first place, regardless of what they do moving forward.
And despite the vitriol, BW is still providing a forum for all of us to voice our concerns and complaints (and compliments which I guess are few and far between), turning their proverbial "other cheek" so you can strike it on a daily basis!
And hey, regardless of what you feel about the business decisions of the corporate muckamucks (and let's face it, business people's bottom line will always be about money, that's what businesses do, though you hope some will always keep any eye out for customer service in a smart way), regardless of all that, how about a shout out for those hand-to-mouse team developers, the little guys in a big comapny, who probably put in countless eye-blearing hours to make a decent game (what game developer puts in that amount of time because they hope fans will hate it?). And for the EC, regardless of whether on not on an aesthetic level you find it brings you closure, those teams still that had to integrate an impressive amount of content that addressed gamer's choices in about three months time.
I was disappointed with the original ending as well, but I'm not going to surrender to hyperbolic outrage by saying "I'm never buying from BW again" or "They need to change this and this and this and this and this...." For the former, I'm not buyin' that the detractors are not buying. If that were true, those same detractors should drop this forum like a hot potato to show that their interests have TRULE moved on elsewhere, their disappointment being irreconcilable. As for me frothing forth with a never-ending list of demands of what they need to change or should have changed--in Buddhism, one would call that an unhealthy attachment that leads to suffering life.
I can understand critiquing BW's choices and lambasting some of their business decisions, but save your indignant anger for issues in the world that actually matter, like de facto segregated schooling (I should know, I teach at-risk high school students on a daily basis) or the gutting of the middle class or predatory home and student loans.
I hated the Phantom Menace et al as much as the next fan who grew up with the ORIGINAL Star Wars trilogy, but I'm not going to waste the rest of my days railing in anger about how Lucas is a sell-out and screwed up the franchise. Same thing with ME. I've got a life to live, man, and life's short!. Maybe check out that new Wes Anderson flick and hope for another punchy and dry-witted performance by Bill Murray....

On the actual topic, it had little to no effect, but then again I don't really buy into the whole 'gaming has gone way downhill ever since <convenient date when I stopped being young>' BS to begin with.
I have to admit though, it did change my view on what constituted a gamer. I thought that I was pretty hardcore and took my games pretty seriously, but after coming here and hearing some of the opinions, I think I must be in the shallow end.

ME3 has not really changed my view, it's just made it blatantly apparent how the industry operates. At the moment, companies like EA are exactly how car salesman were portrayed years ago; customers are there to be squeezed, not helped or served. Fortunately (for car buyers at least) salesman have, by and large, changed how they work and are starting to lose the negative image. But this came about because of tight business and people walking off the forecourt, something that gamers will never do because too many so willingly lap up and buy DLC that is thrown their way at any price.
Developers and publishers don't have a reason to change because they are still breaking records. So this kind of situation will repeat itself again and again and again.

Don't trust anything to do with EA.
When an EA game is coming out, never pre-order.
When an MP is added in the last game of a trilogy, you know it's going to be boring.
Never change writers in a trilogy, unless the previous writer was extremely sh!t.
When someone uses the word artistic integrity to explain their game, burn that game instantly.

So you either allowd to enjoy or it GTFO? Yeah, no one here is allowd to voice their dislike for a game, smart move. You may notice that a lot of people are being constructive with their negativity, while sure - some aren't, but that shows on both sides, like your post for example. Saw a few comments on Capcom. In a way, I'm kind of surprised they're still around...I haven't bought a Capcom game in ages purely out of spite. I hate their practices, policies, etc. Bioware is very close to that level for me...at this point, I will only buy a Bioware game when it's at least 1 year past launch when it retails for $20 or less.

Unfortuately I knew I'd be dissapointed before the game had even been released. I can always call these things and I'm rarely ever wrong.
Bioware can not deny that the game was rushed. Say artistic vision all you want, I have no problem with the god child and the 'vision', it is quite clearly the execution that is the problem. To be honest I saw a space odyssey twist comng because there was no practical way we could win against the reapers. However be honest! The A, B, C ending was a cop out! Bioware insults us by denying it. They should just suck it up and admit it.
We can't presume the ending was the only issue as well. The graphics are 2-3 years too old now and it clearly shows. Straight from the start of the game the water and even the explosions looked 2D. Broke my immersion in the first 5 minutes of the game.
Simply a sign of trying to cram the game onto consoles. Sigh another game that suffers because publishers want more sales. It's such a joke though because it would sell more if they just set out to make it the greatest game ever.
Another problem I had, which isn't necessarily obvious, is how the story and the choices are spoon fed to us. Geez, it's supposed to be a mature game but it's not because all the choices are made easily. Try to explain why 90% of people end up with a playthrough almost identicle to the next persons. THat's not how real life works! A lot of the concequences should have snuck up on us, in stead it's all easily read. I would have envisioned a game where a win against the reapers would have almost seemed a fluke and hopeless. Where I would have been lucky to have anyone survive.
Nope, this game came out a year too early. I know the industry is a business but when the wrong people are making artistic decisions to influence sales and not the good of the game the business is broken.
