I tried to play both sides and now I'm stuck unable to complete this quest with my only save outside Orzammar 5 hours earlier. Am I really going to have to revert to that and play through the fade again?

This should be a simple hot fix BioWare!

Please fix this blatant bug.

Same problem here.  Sure would be nice to get a fix or at least a response.

Well, don't pick both sides, I mean god forbid, we know DA:O is bugged, do not try to do risky things.

I really don't know what you all are doing to cuase this bug. I even tried to make thus happen on my own game, by playing one off the other, and it never bugged. Can you explain further what you did to cause this bug? what was the last quest you completed?

I just got stuck in this game breaking bug today also. I am 84 hours in and have recruited everyone else. This was one of the first places I went to recruit and I could never figure it out so I went and did the others and came back. 40 hours later. There is no recent save I can get to. My earliest save was around the 56 hour mark, well past this glitch. I am so bummed. I waited a year for this game, put 84 hours in and now can't do anything! It's wrong and it needs to be fixed. Period.

Yes, well, that's lovely.

Could you actually tell us what you've done? What led up to the game breaking bug? No one can offer any advice if none of you actually take time to mention what you were doing when you suddenly were faced with this bug.

BTW. I have played both sides successfully. So I know it can be done.

Its not paragon of her kind,  its posted all over the internet, I also left the quest and came back to it after doing all the others only to look online and find its impossible. I wrote this on another thread.

" I am starting to worry that Bioware keep releasing add ons for Dragon age, when what I really want is a patch (Update) that fixes problems such as 'betrayed from within' and 'shifting alliances' and all the other little cracks that if not noticed straight away can be irratating or even make finishing the game impossible. I enjoy adventure games, so if I cant solve a quest I tend to move on and return to it later, I did not expect to find out that it wasnt me, but the game that was at fault. "

it is not Paragon of her kind, but 'betrayed from within' and ' shifting alliance' that are faulty on the xbox at least, and when you load it says that you wont be able to keep playing them both for long, which isnt true cause Ive been doing it for over 10 hours and looks like ill be doing it for all time lol

I must be lost. I've played both Harrowmont and Bhelen off against each other and then just straight worked for Harrowmont and have saved and destroyed the AotV. I've hit no issues with anything.

GlenPC you are right on! It is those 2 quests that get you stuck. You absolutely can not continue to the end of the game. You now own a $65 drink coaster and it seems like bioware is not addressing this issue. I do not understand why the product that I bought in good faith does not work and no one is fixing this. I bought this game specifically because I loved mass effect. This might keep me from buying mass effect 2 because why would I reward them when they have sold me a faulty product? And obviously don't give a rats ass about my problem with their game.

It seems that many people dont get the fact that you are not supposed to try and play both sides with this quest. All that manages to do is prove its the players fault for making progress impossible.

Sora Kitano, how can you say that, are you implying that Bioware inserted these quests as a prank to catch out players? and frustrate some of us beyond belief?

Its a computer game, if you cant do it, then why spend the time programming it in the first place? Maybe I just have a tainted view being a programmer myself, but your statement is crazy. Maybe its an unfinished quest like many in KOTOR I and II, or maybe its a full quest that is glitched, either way im sure the poor bugger who wrote the quests had something in mind other then breaking the game.

It can never be the players fault for making progress impossible, only the person who programmed the game, if you were right then you should get a screen saying GAME OVER the minute you break the game, and maybe a nice ending screen saying how you failed and the blight took over the world all because you didnt like either of the candidates, I guess this glitch mirrors real politics to well, society doesnt like people who vote for RON lol...

This is the stupidest crap I've ever heard... You are given a chance to change sides in the game. A glitch which makes a game unbeatable is not the player's fault you ******...

I'm still not even sure how you messed things up. I payed both sides against the middle - won the Proving for Harrowmont and then taked Bhelen into thinking I did it to gain credibility to hose over Harrowmount. I went into the Jarvia quest playing both sides -- is there some spot after that you break the game because straddling the fence does work.

I had this problem as well. I think it was because before going back to the city to complete the quest I went back to camp and changed my party makeup, dropping the dwarf, whatever his name is.

Once I got locked in, I went back to a save, made sure I had the dwarf in my party and carried on with going to the city. It finished no problem. Hope this helps.

In my case I never had the dwarf and I don't have a previous save to go to before the incident. Here is my exact order. I went to the deep roads to retrieve the father so that I could show the letters about the one guys selling his land twice. Then I went to the fighting arena for the other guy. I did not ask to recruit the other guys to fight because I forgot. After I won that I went to the old guy in the history library to certify the deeds. The. Right after that I talked to harrowment's henchman and somewhere in there I said I did what I did to spy on bhelen. Then went and talked to bhelen's hencan about spying on harrowment. Then from that point the game is stuck in a cycle of each henchman asking if you talked to the other future king but you

never get to because the other henchman will not take you to him or gain their trust and so the game can not be completed. This is not my fault and should be fixed. It is a game breaking bug that is slowly but surely ruining my dragon age experience.

i have played thru 3 times now and not had this issue. i have played each side off on the other but, not exactly the way oxbox explained it. i think you guys are waiting too long to declare for one or the other, it tells you right up front to pick one or the other. after you do that, you can then switch or betray as you wish. maybe you are trying to go too far with each side, you can side with harrowmont and still fight thru aeducan thaig or go with bhelen and still fight thru the cartel. this really sucks for you and bioware should fix but, i would not count on them. they have been unresponsive to all the problems in the game. i would save more often and not push so far into each side before choosing one or the other. hope this helps you, i dont see anything you can do about the games you are already stuck in,

What I did on both my games is do a little of Bhelen then Harrowmont's proving. Bhelen's dude came and asked why I was publicly supporting Harrowmont. On my first, I lied and told him of Harrowmont's plan with Jarvia. He gave me something it to mess it up but I didn't do it and chose Harrowmont as king in the end even though I had the option for Bhelen...

I first went to provings and beat everyone until semi-finals and then I thought I might as well do the Bhelen's quest to get more experience. I talked to the 2 guys and went to Lord Dace and convinced them all to vote for Bhelen. After that I talked to Harrowmont's quest giver and he accused me of betraying him, and Bhelen's quest giver accuses me of betraying as well. The only thing I can do is tell them I will be their spy. But since it is required to know what Harrowmonth or Bhelen wants me to do next, it cannot be completed. When I try to find out they both simply ask "What has Harrowmonth ordered you to do next?" and "What has Bhelen ordered you to do next?". And there isn't an option called "I'm supposed to spy on you" I can only tell them both that I haven't spoken to the other yet. Is there some cheat code to add quests or remove quests or something? Or an editor of some kind?

Err I'm on pc, I know this is the xbox forum but I didn't want to make a new topic about the same thing.

I wanted to Harrowmont to be the king so I did what he asked and got his two dwarves to compete, but the final match was overly brutal on my party after several tries with me not even getting close I decided to do the Bhelen quest instead since it just involved sneaking my rogue through to Lord Dace and also meeting Helmdi. I converted Helmdi and told Lord Dace that I got the letters from Vartog, as I still hoped to put Harrowmont on the throne. I then went back to Vartog, but because I declared for Harrowmont in the Provings was told I had betrayed Bhelen.  Now, I wanted to continue with Bhelen since the Provings final was beyond me I said I'd spy for him. So I reported to Dulin who accused me of working for Bhelen, but I needed to see Harrowmont so I could complete my spy mission. I told Dulin I was actually spying for Harrowmont, which I'd actually have preferred. Now I can't see Bhelen or Harrowmont because neither will see me to give me my next orders until I have orders from the other one.  I have now put in about 20 hours of playing time and am looking to create a new game while I wait for this one to be fixed, which is a real pain.   I just wanted to add my request to the many others that Bioware fix this glitch so I can finish this game.

Finished the game once with no problems but with my second character I wanted to play the "Bhelen-sided quests" that I didn't play the first time. I then went on to fight in the proving, which ultimately got me in the same fix others are experiencing - I cannot progress and I've already completed everything else in the game that is available.

It's unfortunate to leave Orzammar unfinished, but can you not just go around completing the rest of the treaties and then start the landsmeet without gaining the support of the dwarves?
